      We lived in blissful ignorance, believing this was all down to talent and hard work. Would like to go back there rather than cynically doubting every single notable performance. This was Indurain's last tour? Riis and Ullrich were like machines, and we now know why. I've got at least 3 of Indurain's wins on VHS. Finding a player is almost as difficult as going back to this age of "innocence"...

      - Indurain's last tour was 1996
      - They all were cheating, more or less, during these era. Just remember the Festina team scandal in 1998...

    Ullich look small compared to future TdF. Armstrong and doping aside, Ullich has only himself to blame for not kept his body in good shape during the winter.

    Quelle époque! et quels souvenirs!!
    Même si ces champions étaient tous à l'epo ils nous ont fait réver !! sans casques et lunettes c'était quand même autre chose que maintenant... .
    Je pense qu'aujourd'hui ces athlètes sont beaucoup plus "propres" (du moins dans le cyclisme..) mais le spectacle n'est plus vraiment le même... .
    Je pense tout simplement que nos corps d'athlètes ou de gens "normaux" n'ont pas été conçus pour des efforts aussi durs et violents à la base... c'est mon humble avis.
    On est pas construit pour ça je pense.

      @ynotnilknarf39 6 лет назад

      You should look at the facts, since UCI made helmets mandatory that era has more deaths and more injuries. Riders take greater risks thinking they are protected and yet sadly the helmet does not prevent death or brain injury. This is replicated in all countries with helmet wearing laws.

Anyway, the Tour today is boring as hell, I miss these great old days with epic mountain stages, attacks far away from the finish... is it too crazy to wish cycling had 'open bar' under medical supervision?
