Well done Kris - that’s an excellently finished path and it looks great! I’ve just made the same type of path myself. For the Corten steel edging I got a local metal company to cut a sheet into 10cm strips and used stainless steel threaded bar to support it. Using a cobalt drill bit (cheap to buy on the internet) I drilled holes at the end of each piece and made a patching plate held in place with stainless bolts. For those thinking of making a path like this, I used Eccogravel mats which are basically a white plastic honeycomb with a weed membrane stuck to the bottom. The honeycomb holds the stones in place. Anyway - you’ve made a great path and I thought I’d mention the above if anyone may be thinking of doing something similar. Always good to have a little helper! Kind regards. Martin
That's great, info, thanks for sharing
An added advantage of using limestone sub-base, (clause 803 of Highways Specification), is it's cementitious.
That's an insane amount of work. Just moving the materials from your front drive to the back of the garden would have put most people off. But the end result is fantastic. I love the contrast in colour and indeed material used, like the edging. Very well done.
Thanks yes it was a lot of hard work
I love the finished look. It's an attention to detail that I would love to add to my tiny path. Very inspiring!
Is it wrong to say I've been looking forward to seeing an update? Looks great and that steel edging was a good choice.
It's nice to see you have a garden helper! Mine always run off!! You've done a grand job there, looking forward to the finished tour soon.
Love the ending, Kris!! And the path is coming on great!!
A craftsman at work, well done Kris
It's much prettier than those straight wooden sleepers!
I like it Kris, modern but also natural looking at the same time. I see it’s not just me trying to think up creative angles with wheelbarrows too 😂
Yep, stick a child in a wheel barrow and hope for the best!
Like the steel
Excellent work - I did mine at the end of last year and my technique was pretty much identical to yours. I used flexible steel edging and slate instead of gravel but so far, it's holding up well! 😃
That's great to hear. Really pleased with it so far
Looking great 👌🏻
Love the new paths Kris, for your arid beds have you gone 100% gravel or a soil gravel mix ?
Thanks. Different parts have different mixtures from pure grit to just a cm mixed in.
I've watched so many of these videos, and I still don't know whether the weed membrane goes under or on top of the type 1 MOT. Seems to be a lottery
As you hammer down the sub base it makes sense to get that compacted down first then putting the membrane on top.
I got a question for ya, how shape are the egdes ? Coz I've got a 3 year old running around and understandably I don't want her falling on it .
Is it possible too fill the gravel all the way too the top of the egdeing ?
Yes you can get various heights. I wanted it to show a lot above ground. It is a hard edge so be mindful around young children
