Man the BEST TIP is set to MOVIE MODE. I was freakin out. Really thanks!
I've just spent about eight hours trying to figure out the same thing. Had given in and then found this.
The manliness of that knife for an unboxing video was my favorite part lol. A nice little touch. Now I want to go to the Army Surplus store and ask for their murder knife just so that when they ask me what I'm hunting I can say "boxes". lol G
You're a life saver - what the hell Sony - I was streaming with low quality for the last 12 months, wondering what the hell was wrong with my capture card!!!
Some of these things arent at all obvious. Its crazy how tweaking a few setting makes such a dramatic difference.
Bro I just watched this video and it helped me out a great deal fam .... keep up the great work I just subbed
Thank you very much! 🤓
Great editing.. man I can see your channel going very far bro!! 1 million subscribers!!! Keep working my man s
Oh thanks brother!
A life saver, I'm using both devices and this made the setup straight forward! Finally done using the c920!🙌🏾 Thank you Cristofer!
Oh damn! Nice to hear that my man! And thanks for the sub!
@@TheDonod Indeed, keep up the great work!
Bro im currently thinking of upgrading to this camera too from my c920. What was ur thoughts before or what held u back before purchasing one of these?
So Cristopher, if I heard you right, you are saying you have the Shure going into an interface like a Focusrite, and the Camlink going into your laptop as well so you can record it all as one file - just as if the mic was connected to the camera - without needing to do the whole clap and sync audio to video? And does the Camlink capture software capture the audio from the mic or do you use something else? Many thanks! Crystal clear video - what lens are you using on the 6400?
Yes! This exactly! I pretty much stream with the same setup and i dont have to tune the mic or sync anything. Everything just works for me, and if you want you can add the audio straight from your cam using a plug mic too, for example i do this from now on when i record my youtube videos using the rode mic go. The setup is easy clean and very professional!
@@TheDonod thanks! What lens did you use? Someone told me to get the Sigma 16 1.4...
@@RobertWhitfield that is exactly what im using at the moment, for film, photography and streaming, you get lots of light without using overly crazy light so you dont burn your rednas.
@@TheDonod any special software to capture both the audio and video feed?
So... awesome video man really helpful but I ordered an A6000, Elgato cam link, dumby battery and tripod but what exactly is the cord I need? Hdmi to usb?
You need a mini hdmi that fits with your a6000 (make syre that it is the right one) to normal hdmi that conmects with your camlink. Hopefully this helps! 😇
@@TheDonod Got it ordered. So excited for friday when everything arrives!
@@jdiamatti nice hit me up if you need more help!
does the camera turn off due to power saving mode? When it is connected to HDMI
No. The only issue i had was that while recharging with the usb cable the camera over heats. But then works fine for hours if i turn a fan on or open the window. There are dummy batteries for the cam too that fixes the issue.
@@TheDonod so even when it's not recording and just turned on it overheats? Hmm I just got the cam with all the reviews saying it doesn't haha rip.
@@ZealsAmbitions yeah in noraml conditions maybe but my room gets pretty hot from all of the lights and computers. In normal cases it doesnt!
Hi Donod,
Can you link me which dummy battery using? Thanks.
hey man! sorry for the late response. This is what i ordered for my self: www.amazon.de/gp/product/B073GQKV6B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 There are many other options that you can use with external batteries too!
hey man, i have this setup, but my camera automatically outputs in 4k 30fps but i want it to output in 1080 60, any suggestions?
You have to change this froim your camera. In your movie setup you have tyo search the reasolution and fps, once you set it up there it will be automatically shown correctly in obs.
I figured it isn't an issue unless the camera forces a shutdown. I actually dug some more and found the setting that will force it to output 1080p over HDMI even if the destination accepts 4K. In case anyone else has this issue, they got to "4K Output Select" and select "Memory Card + HDMI". If any other setting is selected, the camera will default to 4K 30.
Thank you man, I was looking for exactly what you explained
Im suprised how helpful this was. Glad to hear that!
Thanks for this. Any idea why the camlink is only reading and is locked at 720p when the camera is at 1080?
Never saw this comment, but you can change the output from your camera, the camlink recognized the output automatically.
Was this shot using your a6400? If so, what lens(es) do you use?
The a6400 were used prettymuch in all of the scenes. And at the moment i cant afford more than the kit lense 16-55mm. But its great for simple video. I really recommend this camera, its amazing!
@@TheDonod looks great for kits lens
@@John_DaMan to be honest i was surprised too. Now im going for the 18-105 zoom. Well see how that pans out.
BRUCE MF VANE yes
BRUCE MF VANE i just got mines today with the 16 mm 1.4 , i heard is beast and i know is beast . so far this cam is a tank . i will be streamin soon to see how it is 😬🔥🔥
Thanks, this was helpful.
Oh nice to hear that man! :)
@@TheDonod can you make a tutorial on how to add overlays on Twitch with this?
@@TheDonod Were you using the OneTake teleprompter on top of the lens?
@@antdx316 no. Just the kishitlens 16-50mm 😅
@@antdx316 yeah, but what types of overlays do you mean?
Great video! So pretty much all shots where made using the a6400 as a webcam right? From second 0.4 it was shot like that in movie mode? Thanks man
Yeah! Shot on movie mode using the elgato camlink.
Which camera lens do you have on your sony a6400?
This is great, dude. Thank you!
Ty for the feedback! Now go and rule the world!
Thanks so much for this! It helped a lot. I have the Sony a6400 as well and i noticed that things look a little weird when i have the Base (Canvas) Resolution and Output (Scaled) Resolution in the Video settings to a 3840×2160 resolution .. When i change them to 1920x1080 it looks better. (meanwhile in Output Settings the Re-scale Outptut settings remain at 3840×2160 all along).
I was wondering what you keep yours set to and possibly an answer as to why it looks better?
Also does this mean I will be recording videos ob OBS with 1920x1080?
Am I still streaming in 4k?
Sorry about all the questions but I just want the bets quality and am confused about this all.
Thanks!!
Hey! If your obs is setup as 1080 with 30fps it will only stream at that quality. It doesnt matter if the cam is setup to 4k. It will just look better, and to the other issue, if everythkng is setup correctlt in your hdmi output settings then you have to turn your a6400 mode wheel to video. It will automatically set it up as the coreect live feed. Dont leave it in auto, manual or any other than movie mode. Hopefully this helped and im glad so many people found this helpfull! 😇
@@TheDonod thank u! Well its 1920x1080 in the video settings but in the output settings I still have it at 4k quality... so I am wondering what I'm streaming at with those settings.
I have my cam settings matching your settings. The onlyy reason I brought down the resolution in the video settings (in obs) is because if I have it at a 4k resolution there things look weird.. to describe how it looks it looks like if u were to take your phone and record a computer screen and it looks all weird with pixels and patterns moving.
I want to stream at the best quality possible but am unsure why it looks weird when I have all resolutions set to 4k everywhere in OBS.. remember all along my output settings (rescaled) remain at 4k.
Any ideas?
I found out the name of the issue when i am streaming in 4k.. It's called the moire effect!
@@PoggleDropASMR Heh, ty so much. i learned something new! :)
Do you have any degradation recording via Camlink vs. SD card?
In case you want to use OBS, you actually don't need to install anything from Elgato. It just works.
+1
This is very good. Thank you for helping me out!
Hey im just a dude who made a video. Thank you for watching! :)
The other more important reason that the extender is included is because it reduces strain on the USB port on your computer. Especially if you have an elevated computer that's not flat on your desk. I've personally had a few USB ports break on me over the years that way so I usually only use adapters with cord extensions so that I can make sure there is no significant strain on the ports.
Good point man!
@@TheDonod Hi, Is it possible to use Sony image edge desktop software if Sony camera is used with Elgato cam link? I want to use the camera controls / menu using Sony image edge software. For example I want to change the ISO setting using my PC instead of using the camera LCD screen. I have interface the 6400 Sony camera to my PC using Elgato cam link and the Sony image edge desktop does not recognize Sony 6400 camera.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for watching it! :)
Once i set up everything and go to the camera hub app its just a white blank screen. Has anyone had this issue
Black blank screen so disappointed
The cable it needs is micro HDMI to HDMI or, d HDMI to HDMI?
Can I also capture my audio input from the camera mic via this method?
Great video. I have the Canon 4000D and get "no signal" do you have any knowledge or advice regarding this problem?
check the drivers from the elgato and if everything is mint in that side, then from your cannon check if you have movie mode on.
If that didn't work, what you can allso check is the Output mode, if it's turned off then obviously turn it on and if it's on tinkle with the settings untill it turns on.
Allso check the elgato supported camera list if your camera is on the list.
Hopefully this helps!
good tutorial only problem im having is setting up my audio i have a Apollo Interface with my mic hooked up Xlr so how do i do audio to work in my videos and also be able to hear the tv say like if im streaming Call of duty where they can hear me and my game play
The gameplay audio will be heard over hdmi, now to the microphone i have my system riggen in a way that my mixer is split with my game pc and my stream pc. But this product is mainly for webcams, it works with capture card too but ita intended to work as a webcam.
I have this exact setup with a mac, works well! Haven't tried OBS yet, just Zoom, where it looks a bit pixelated...perhaps because Zoom only goes up to 720p? Cheers
Im sorry but i needed to ask. Is zoom somekind of a software or are you talking about the actual zoom on the camera? 😅
@@TheDonod Hehe no worries, it is Zoom conferencing, a good free app/platform for recording video calls: zoom.us/
I sure wish it came with an HDMI connector for the price that it is... Thanks for the vid!
Yeah me too. Suprised me a bit!
Hello thank you for the informative video! I have a question- when I try to add a video source (I'm using a camlink and a sony camera) it does show camlink as a device but I cannot get the image on the screen. I also don't have as many options as you do under video capture! Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
What do you mean by "adding video" where are you doing this. In obs or?
Nice video man! What do u use to mount your camera? Link? Or name?
What do you mean by mounting? To the desk im using an elgato arm and i have an smallrig cage on my a6400 😅 i really need to make a setup video again!

i'm having some problem trying to connect my Hero7 with cam link and nothing, idk if the HDMI cables im using are not supported but nothing is working for me... im trying to Live Stream on Ecamm app
What happends when you connect it? And have you downloaded the drivers for the Camlink?
What lens are you using? Can I use my 16-50 OSS kit lens? I own a Sony e 35mm f/1.8 oss too, but it's too much zooming.
Nice job ;-)
Is it possible to have 2 cam Link on the same Mac, 1 for the alpha 6400 and 1 for the Gopro ? Work in the same Time in obs ? is there a device with 2 ports at elgato or another brand ?Thanks
Yes. Many do it. The computer sees them as individual "cams".
hi would you prefer a6400 or camcorder ax53 for better ? thanks
Tbh i dont know what type of quality you can get from a camrecorder or if you can chamge lenses. For me in this comparison it will be the a6400. I enjoy taking pictures, so for that i need to change lenses + the video quality is allready exceptional!
@@TheDonod how about the a6400 kit 16-50mm lens, its enough for a better recording for livestreaming?

Great tutorial man.
Heyy nice to hear that it was usefull!
It's cool how you pronounce HDMI, Heytch-dee-ehm-eye 😁
I hope my accent has evolved since then! :D
@@TheDonod All kidding aside: I got a real question, do you think I can run the Cam link 4K into a powered usb hub and then from the USB hub to the back of my desktop?
The setup is my Canon EOS RP HDMI mini port to the Cam Link 4k HDMI and then out from the Cam 4k into AUS B hub that's connected to my desktop computer. What are your thoughts?
@@jamestheradioman im not 100% sure, but i dont see any reason why not. The camlinks only job is to convert your cam signal into a "webcam" source for your computer. If a normal webcam works on your usb hub, with the logic invested in my i see no reason for it not to work.
The only issue you can run into is the data bandwidth limit. If you have setup your cam to 4k quality its preferred to have at least a usb 3.0 to be used with it.
Hopefully this helps!
@@TheDonod Yes, thanks! My usb port on my PC is 3.0 speed and the hub I have is 3.0 as well, so no lost bandwidth.
Thanks for the video!
did you use powerbank or dummy battery for infinity power?
Yeah, i found a cheap one at amazon and it works great! 🤓
Are you using a LUT filter? Which are your picture profile setups?
I used hlog 2 here and i knew i should have had saved my cc settings... 😅
Have you tried using your cam link 4K and go pro on a nvidia Shield TV pro (2019) and get it to work? Please post a reply or video if you have gotten it to work.
Can this also take 4K in but output into the laptop as 1080p? I don't need 4K input to laptop for the likes of Zoom video conferencing. Thanks. Or else, I was looking at the HD 60S+. Thanks in advance for any help. Liked.
Yes. Thats what i have it setup as. I set my a6400 as 1080 and it will automatically be recognized as 1080.
@@TheDonod Thanks. Can you set the A6400 as 4K, but then set the Camlink to output to laptop as 1080p? Why? Because Sony's downscaling to 1080p is actually not the sharpest compared to other camera's 1080p such as Fuji. So wondering if Camlink does a better job of preserving details when downscaling. If you don't know, no problem. Thanks for replying already. Much appreciated.
@@2musiclover534 Yes, on obs i can do this. In the camlink its self im not 100% sure.
My screen shows half green, how do I fix that, it’s a new Camlink that I bought, I’m using stream yard to stream
This makes no sense why would they make the cam link without the hdmi to usb when u order it in the box💀😭
I have no idea what you meant with this.
Superinteresting, thank you! Does this set up only work for recording or also live streaming eg with restream? Do I need USB3 or is 2 ok? Thank you!
I use this mostly to livestream on twitch. And i suggest you use usb 3. Problem with the usb 2 is that the data transfer rate is way too low.
It will work with USB 2. The bottle neck is not the USB, but the processing power of the PC/laptop (actually the graphics processor) which is performing the h.264 encoding. My system has CPU usage at 43% when live streaming to Facebook. These devices are essentially an HDMI pass-through to the software encoder/video studio (like OBS) on the PC. Another option is to use an external h.264/h.265 encoder ($200) which has an Ethernet interface and makes the camera an IP camera. It also off-loads the encoding from the PC.
I need help I did all the steps I do have port 3 my camera is ax6000 and still have no device found!!! Help
hi there, great video, I just got a Sony A6400, and looking to stream for long periods. What do you use to power it ? If you just plug a mini usb from the camera to usb in computer... will this power it? Does the battery need to be in etc? I see that there are dummy batteries that get be bought but just wondering the best and easiest way to get around it. Cheers
I have the a6400 too. Most USB ports cannot supply the needed 2 amps along with the USB capture device. You need an NP-FW50 dummy battery and power supply. Sony sells one and there are several others on Amazon. I bought the Fit-Power product. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0744JGWQR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What picture profile were you using on the a6400 here?
I can't connect to my Cannon T6i and I read that it's compatible. I don't have any video feed.
good ...
Thank you for the tips!
Do you need a SD card on the Sony a6400 for It to work?
In movie mode for streaming did you select A with APS-C? I set it to A and widest aperture. It is for twitch at 720p at 60fps but will be going to 1080p in the future.
I think i had that on default. I have pretty good lightning in my room so i dont have any issues with dark spots. Do you have a simple light or whats uour setup?
What hdmi connector do you have. Is it hdmi to micro usb?
Wow very well made video 👍
Ty so so much! You dont know how much that means to me! :D
My problem is if i stream for 30 Minutes the Camera goes in standby mode. How can i disable this?
Yeah that still happens for me also I just get a black screen. The light doesn't even go on with the usb. Also using an a6400!
Sony a6600 here
Have you used it as webcam with Google hangouts? I get a very delayed feed. How can I solve this? Cheers!
no chance to get/record 4K on OBS - using cam link 4k, MBAM1 16 GB, sony AX53 which is 4k elgato compatible :-( any hint?
(btw: quicktime: no problem to get 4k!!!)
how you record the audio and video at same time and file?
For me the audio source was automatically in obs.
Is there a way to stream on twitch obsstudio 4k30 fps and downscaled it to 1080p 30fps? i heard downscaling 4k30fps to 1080p 30fps will make the picture quality better?
Yes there is, just change it in the video table, but the majority of the detail will be lost to poor twitch convertion, but it will look slightly better. Just take in notice that your oc might not like it.
What about the aspect ratio on the camera? 3:2, 16:9 or 1:1?
That is your choice, but i recommend 16:9 if you are doing normal videos or broadcasting.
So i just got a sony a6600 (super similar to a6400) however obs keeps trying to record in 1080p and i cant figure out how to get the 4k setup. even when i type a custom 4k resolution it loses the image, what do i need to do to get the camera to record in 4k in obs? i want to use normal obs in 4k for youtube videos since i have streamlabs obs for streaming and 1080 is fine there. thanks an advance!
You have to set the canvas size to 4k and also the recording settings has to be set to 4k. Make sure that you did these correctly inside obs!
@Daniel Yubi if i recall right i haad to set the canvas to 4k, mess with settings in video on the camera, put the camera in movie mode on the dial, then change the properties of the capture device last
Good video, volume too low. Had to raise all the way up the volume.

Hi ! Great video ! I have a problem that I couldn`t solve and maybe you know the answer. I have a Sony A6600 and I want to stream with OBS in 1080 60fps. The dslr is set to 1080, but when I connect it to the cam link 4k Elgato to the PC, the dsrl automaticly changes the resolution to 4k 30 fps. Even if the Obs is set to 1080, the dslr is 1080, when i connect it to the Elgato 4k in the PC, I only have the option 4k. Do you have any advice for me ?
Thank you so much ! I really appreciati it !
Tou have to connect it and then change the settings from your camera, and change the cameras output settings too. There is a video here on youtube how you do it with your model! 🤓
I'm convinced that the "Source:" on 4K Capture Utility will never say higher than 1080p. I've owned 3 different cameras from Elgato's "Camera Compatibility" list in the past 2 months and NONE of them will let me output 4K. Please help me
Those cameras has to have a clean 4k output. It has nothing to do with the dongle at that point. You need to check if the cameras that you have can even technically output that 4k.
@@TheDonod ALL 3 of the cameras are on Elgato's compatibility list: GoPro 8 with Media Mod, GoPro 9 with Media Mod and Lumix G100K. All of them on this website ( www.elgato.com/en/cam-link/camera-check ) are LISTED as 4K HDMI output. I honestly want to sue them LMFAO
EDIT: they actually did fix the listing that the GoPros were 4K output compatible, which is nice. But I still can't get my Lumix G100K to output 4K and it is LISTED as outputting 4K.
Good explaination
Hi, would I be able to use the 4K Cam Link efficiently (i.e. to record video from any HDMI source) if I plug it into a 3.1 (Data transfer only) USB port on my laptop?

I don't understand, in a lot of videos on RUclips, people don't need Cam Link 4K. They directly use the micro HDMI output. Is there a difference?
It's the quality. Foir example i can get my A6400 working with my usb cable but it looks like rhino shit. + This part is ridicculously cheap compared to my a6400 that was 1400€ with out the lens that im using now. @@sylvainfx Yeah, the fixed gives you that extra F/stop plus better pictures if you use it for shooting. Im looking to buy the 12mm.
I was confused why my a6400 wasnt outputting video, then I changed movie file format to HD from 4k and now it is showing 1080p outout, but I wanted 4k 30 fps output, I am confused why it cant do that, the whole point of the word "4k" version of camlink was to enable 4k :/
Just setting the movie format and recording to 4k doesnt do anything really. You have to set the "Preview" options to 4k. I show it in the video.
@@TheDonod Preview option was disabled even in ur video, now here is the strange part, I just reset my camera settings to default and on movie mode I went to movie settings and set recording to 4k and file format only has 2 options for 25p ( none for 30p ) meanwhile I can see in ur video settings are on 30p and on 1080p I see 100p but no 120p. its strange that my camera seems to be missing certain settings. I am on firmware 2.0
@Daniel Yubi hopefully we both can get the answer here, I was also missing 30p for 4k then I realized I had to switch to ntsc , will try again and let u knw if that fixed it.
@Daniel Yubi ok so I set it to ntsc and again tried and same problem even camera app of windows 10 shows error of mediacapture failed. a soon as I turned it to 1080 it started working but then again turned it to 4k and just saw 1 stuck frame and then agfain nothing, seems like both of us are missing something key here
@Daniel Yubi I was able to make it work in 4k, I tried all usb ports on my pc it seems u really need usb 3.0 for this so try out all usb ports on ur pc , although it still is working with 24p, weirdly hdmi output says 24/60 and there aint no 30p option there which is strange, though my recording format is set to 4k 30
I own a Sony A6400, I will buy a cheap alternative to the camlink card, there are many videos on youtube that show that a 20 euro capture card has the same results as the camlink.
(x) big doubt

@@lorenzoocchipinti9120 thats a 1080p on. Usb 2.0 plat. This is 4k. Big difference. But it looks like it handles 1080 well!
@@TheDonod Removing only the 4K, for 1080p 30 it works the same
@@lorenzoocchipinti9120 yeah, but i have an over 2 thousand euro camera that has an 4k feature, in this case its important for me, but for streaming that card sounds really good!
which cable i should buy, can someone send me a link for that?
Depends on what your cameras input is but for me it was MicroHDMI to HDMI.
Something like this but longer: www.amazon.de/Silkland-Supports-Ethernet-Compatible-Raspberry/dp/B098XS9XS2/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1ISFATVAIVZ15&keywords=micro+hdmi+to+hdmi&qid=1706576229&sprefix=micro+hdmi+to+hdmi%2Caps%2C109&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1
How much lag do you find it has?
tbh were talking about milliseconds. It responds allmost at a 1:1 ratio. I wass suprised myself.
DONOD thank you for your reply👍👍👍
For some reason my sony a6600 wont show up on a elgato cam link 4k pro software on windows..
You have to turn on the HDMI feed on in your camera.
@@TheDonod yes i know but it was a faulty cable
@@Mtropey aaa! Well that makes even more sense. Glad you found the problem! 😇
hey bro , im facing an issue with this capture card , it detects perfectly but the video looks lag or like ghosting or like motion blur i dont know how to explain , could you please help me out thank you
Maybe check your shutter speed
Should we get an HDMI to HMDI cable to work with CamLink?
A HDMI to what ever HDMI your camera is using. With this you get it to work and your pc sees it as a "Web Cam". Sadly there are no cables in the box.
How the mic is wired?
I dont know, how is it weird?
@@TheDonod as far as i understand, you plugged it to the computer, right?
@@borisvoinov yes. It has my a6400 connected on to it. I didnt understand the microphone question? The audio was coming from my shure sm7b which is connected in obs where i recorded the video.
Can do Facebook live streaming with Cam Link 4k?
Thanks for the video. Could you or anyone help me out please. I'm trying to use my Sony a6300 and cam link 4k for Facebook live. It looks terrible though, very blury, does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Don't you just have an autofocus problem? Is it automatic and not manual?
@@sylvainfx I put it on manual, still same problem unfortunately, thanks for reaching out!
@@christiaan4music I rather proposed to put it in automatic. If you have a blurred image, there is not much possibility. Either for manual, or the lens has a technical problem.
