Great collection of stories, Simon! So happy to have found a new posting today. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your hard work and talent with us.❤️
@Lisa Adams Thanks Lisa, that's a very good point! I must confess that one slipped my mind. Partly, I think, due to the circumstances in which I recorded it (on a different mic and in an under-stairs cupboard, before I had my current studio set up) so the sound quality isn't as good, which would sound all the more noticeable in a compilation with other stories. I'd probably need to re-record it to fix that. However, I've a few more "railway-themed stories still on my to-do list, so I'll keep 'In the Tube' in mind for a second themed compilation in the future! Thanks for the suggestion/reminder
Listening to Simon narrating these classic stories is like opening a really good quality box of chocolates: simply delicious 😋! Thank you very much Simon.
It is very nice to listen to a man who can speak English well, can annunciate and pronounce the English language and verbalise punctuation correctly. Thank you very much
I'm getting addicted to this channel. There's something about your style of narration that suit the material perfectly and this collection is wonderful.
What a cornucopia of railway stories. Ah bliss. No housework this weekend! Plan to sit in my 'first class carriage' and get carried away. Thank you Simon.
A cold winter’s night, a steaming cuppa and one’s favorite teller of ghosty stories. The gang and I are all on board! Thank you, Simon! You’re the best!
Thanks again Simon. Just so refreshing to listen to someone on the radio like you who speaks our language clearly and how it should sound. I regularly turn off radio programmes as poorly spoken announcers continue to pronounce "th" as "f" thinking it sounds good when in fact it makes them sound like a two year old learning to speak.
I usually wait till after I listen to comment but I won't wait just shy of 7 hours to say thank you and how much I appreciate your talents and efforts. This means much to many of us! You are the best! ❤
I am so looking forward to listening to these tonight. My dad was a 🇨🇦 model railroader who specialized in N Gauge (very small scale) British train layouts. Once again, Mr Stanhope brings the goods. Thank you, sir.
Having met some true rail enthusiasts, I'm not sure I'd meet the standard of knowledge to make the grade, but I certainly do feel there's something special about trains, and of course steam trains in particular...
I love not just your voice but your channel. To bring these stories into the 21st century is fantastic and should be applauded. Many thanks Simon for your company and narration.

I've been listening to several of the 'big' channels doing this sort of content. So much so that I have various criticisms of them. I'm finding that Bitesized is now my favorite. Bitsized, you are doing great.
@@suspendeddisbelief401 I adore some of the other folks in this very specific RUclips genre, who also happen to be fellas, they all do stellar work they all offer a singular and, precise, idiosyncratic in the very best sense of the term, narrative voice. Never do they overdo it, the mastery of accents, especially where dialogue between requires two different accents(or a female), ALONG with the narrative voice, which makes three, all quickly rotating~it's not an easy skill to perfect. So high honors for the 4 I'm thinking of, including Simon, but the truth and the fact is this; Simon was "my first",; and after many many hours of listening to these best beloved story tellers,: there's just something about Simon's vocal quality, his quite unique delivery, and a certain attitude, if you will... It's as though his love for the material is uniquely manifest somehow.. idk, I've not said it right, but there is a grateful and heartfelt compliment in there somewhere!
I agree, there are some very good narrators out there. I think Simon shows an understanding and affection for his material in his performances that, for me, makes these classic works more absorbing and resonant.
Wow Simon! This is incredible! I have been with you almost from the start. In that time your channel has come so far. It was ALWAYS quality but the addition of music really sets the tone perfectly! Also the background information and your introduction are fantastic. I know that the harassment by YT was a very stressful period but from that struggle so many positive changes were born. Thank you for all the hard work you put in to keeping us entertained with quality content found nowhere else!
Perfectly delightful. I appreciate the time stamps as I listen to you to fall asleep. It makes it easy to find where I was the next night. All the stories were good but Charles Dickens is really a master storyteller.
When I was a child - I was runover by a slow moving steam train - hardly suffering any injuries at all! Great memories! If it had been a deisal - or some other new fangled invention - I most certainly would not be here today!
Of course, I listened to this upload in its entirety! It was great to have on in the background as I created some monoprints on my gel plate. The only one I had not heard you read before was, "The Lost Special." Thanks ever so much for another nice, lengthy upload to keep one entertained while going about our work and play.
I love all your readings and have listened to some stories multiple times... but please, please, please, can we have some more Father Brown Stories... you read them so well and make them so enjoyable. I know Father Brown is not everyone's cup of tea, but I do like them myself...many thanks
Thanks for the request Claire. I'd intended to do some more Father Brown before now, I had one pencilled in for last year but was overtaken by events. I'll do my best to get around to him again soon!
Very entertaining. Stephen king once said ' Reading a good book is like having a long satisfying affair. But listening to your narrations is a weekend fling.
Thanks for posting...love these stories. My Grandfather worked on railroads as a young man (I have all his pocket watches), and my Mom worked on the Sante Fe Railroad as a Courier Nurse (RN), from 1950 to 1953...riding the Chicago to Los Angeles route.
Great collection, Simon. I live in Western Canada 🇨🇦 and I dream of one day taking a breathtaking train journey across Canada 🍁. With your storytelling talent, I can put myself on those trains. Thank you. ✌️
Thank you for these wonderful stories and your excellent narration! I hope your channel will entice younger people to discover the relevance of older books, and introduce them to a more elegant English language.
I spent my entire working career in Railway signal boxes. Some were quite isolated. This usually means a fairly solitary experience and many quiet night shifts. On these occasions, the mind can play interesting games. The Signalman story has always fascinated me.
