    Hey wanted to say thanks! I love these cars especially modded. I just completed the matte black Porsche 918. I used the 2430 7200kv and wow! And it looks good on the shelf. Total price including receiver, motor, esc, and battery pack-$135.

    I love the research you have done. The pinions alone are priceless for various 2mm projects. You have also confirmed my suspicions on the brushless motor selection. Although it fits I think there is another that's a better match for its size and weight. I think it would be great to see these race in competitions for the rookies and maybe even the pros.... I can almost see the various classes now!

    Had a question about taking off wheels. Rear wheels have a center piece that can be popped out. Use the end of a small screwdriver or x-acto knife. Then you can get to screw holding wheels on. Not sure about front wheels. Was able to pop center piece out(a little harder to get out), but wheel not held on with a screw but a rivet thing. Not sure how to get that apart.. Other Rastar rc front wheel and whole assembly might be the same so possible to just swap. Hope that helps. I’ll update if I figure something out.

      tony tigres Thanks for the comment. I enjoy modifying Toy Grade RCs, especially the Rastar Brand. Rastar makes a good quality rc with nicely detailed bodies. Probably the best I’ve seen so far. Good scale look to them. I also find them relatively easy to work on. I plan to make more detailed how to videos soon.

    Just bought the RA star f40. Would love to modify like you did but dont have much experience... little intimidated. Where do you buy all these parts? Anyway to list them in the comments plz

    • @2005silver
      @2005silver  4 года назад +1

      I usually list parts in the descriptions of the videos showing these running. See those for more details. I usually get parts from a few different websites. Banggood.com is one. This is like a Chinese Amazon type site. Good selection and prices. I generally get esc, motors, lights from here. Also servos. Only bad thing is shipping time. Usually have to wait 2 weeks or so to get orders. Another is Nitrorcx.com This is in California so I get parts quicker. Usually get servos from this site, but they sell a lot of RC items at decent prices. Since I already have a number of hobby and toy grade RCs, I will borrow other parts from those, like the controller, receiver, and battery. If I find the time I plan to make a series of videos about modifying in general. I’ll make sure to include information like this. Good luck on modifying and have fun. Feel free to ask any questions as I enjoy sharing my knowledge. I might even make a more detailed video about the F40 since this is one of my favorite RCs.

    • @2005silver
      @2005silver  2 года назад

      Unfortunately I’ve not found any hobby grade awd chassis that matches the Rastar RCs very well. The closest I have is a ZD Racing Rocket. It’s a 1/16 scale. I also have a Bugatti Veyron so I just now compared and the ZD Racing’s wheelbase is a little too small. Figuring out a way to make the Rastar chassis AWD would be quite a challenge.

    Quick question how do you deal with oversteer. I just got done doing mine on a McLaren P1 and I get too much steering where the front wheels lock up.

    • @2005silver
      @2005silver  Год назад

      Thanks for the comment. Not sure how you set up the steering/servo. Here’s an updated video showing more details of how I modify the Rastar RCs. ruclips.net/video/j3y9tvE3MQY/видео.html
      If you have a similar setup, here’s a few thoughts. If your controller has a duel rates, then adjust how far it turns. Maybe the servo arm turns too far causing it to bind. Make sure the servo arm moves freely. Sometimes I have to reshape the arm to move easier in the steering mechanism.

    Are the components the same in all rastar 1/14 cars?

    • @2005silver
      @2005silver  3 года назад

      The gearbox and steering box have all been the same design in the ones I’ve modified. The orientation might be different depending on the car. For example, the F40’s motor is towards the rear side of the gearbox, while the Ford GT’s is towards the front.

  • @TheDiegoloop

    How did you modify the lights?

    • @2005silver
      @2005silver  3 года назад

      The car in original form has pop up headlights. The lights are spring loaded to pop up when the wheels are turned to the right. So I just kept that as is. I did replace the original lights with a hobby grade light set. It has 2 front clear bulbs, 2 red rear, and 2 blue lights. The car has lenses for the driving lights so I just aimed the clear lights at those. Same for the red lights for the rear. The blue lights have smaller bulbs so those fit in the spot where the original pop up lights were. Was a bit of a tight fit but worked out okay.
      Here’s a link so someone else’s video who did a great job with the lights. ruclips.net/video/clzsaOvzNm4/видео.html
      I’m not that great with lights. I usually do something simple. I focus more on better control and speed.

    • @2005silver
      @2005silver  3 года назад +1

      A larger motor would be harder to fit. A 370 brushed or 2430 brushless works better. Still get good speed.

  • @Island728
    @Island728 4 года назад

    Do you find the larger pinion gear from wltoys make a large difference in speed?

    • @2005silver
      @2005silver  4 года назад

      Island728 I used the larger gear with a brushed motor in the Ford Mustang GT500 and the LaFerrari and the top speed is noticeably faster. I used the same brushed motor and stock pinion in the White Porsche GT3 and Ferrari 458. If you watch those videos you can see the difference.
      The F40, Ford GT and The Audi R8 I used a brushless motor and stock pinion. It seems this combination gives me similar top speed to the LaFerrari and GT500. This setup, to me, was easier requiring less gearbox modifications.
      I have 2 videos about that GT500. One is with the stock gear and the other is with the larger gear.

    • @Island728
      @Island728 4 года назад

      2005silver But don’t you have to change the spur gear as well when you switch to a larger pinion? I only saw pinion gear in the wltoys package. And how do you manage the pinion gear from slipping out due to higher torque?

    • @2005silver
      @2005silver  4 года назад

      Island728 I don’t change any other gearing. I just mount the motor higher in the gearbox to compensate for the larger pinion. I cut out above the motor area and a little where pinion gear is, use some foam pieces under the motor to raise it and match up to the spur gear , and then secure motor with some zip ties. The foam pieces have a little give in them so I use the tightness of the zip ties to fine tune the gear mesh. I’ll make a video showing this since this is RUclips.😀. This method is more work and a bit of trial and error.

    • @Island728
      @Island728 4 года назад

      2005silver perfect, so did you encounter any issue with the pinion slipping out of the shaft ?

    • @Island728
      @Island728 4 года назад

      2005silver you know I have yet to find a plug and play replacement this is a 260 size motor actually. In terms of speed your brushless is how many kv? If you pair up with the larger pinion that you can probably achieve highest speed!
