- Lurking beneath the streets of Washington DC is a group that seems to have no affiliation to any of the known factions in both cities, that we’ve come across.
Encounters are infrequent, and brutal.
Although they seem to dwell in DC’s sewer system, they can sometimes been seen scavenging above ground, presumably looking for supplies.
This group is known by many names, like the unchained, sewer people, chain-gang, and the silent ones.
But Officially, in-game they can be seen called “The Underground”.
In this video, I’ll be discussing the possible origins on the Underground faction based on the information found in both The Division 1 and 2.

Damn guy got my buddy, we were lookin to bypass a few enemy units, and when we thought we were safe, making sure that nobody came down the damn ladder, I turned to see mister Chungo the Chainsaw Wielder rip into him. I still watch my back in the Underground. Fuckin made me jump.
After I completed the Washington monument control point, I was checking my gear and got ambushed, almost shit myself
Went underground for a while. Searched through some of the locked rooms for loot. Started to hear a motor and footsteps. Turned to look at the door. Got to see some Jason Vorhees looking guy and a bunch of other people run in.
Thankfully, if you can dodge a sledgehammer you can also dodge a chainsaw.

Is it just me, or is the second game more fun but the first one had a more survival-like tone/ mood?
that's kinda the point, the first one is all about surviving the first few weeks/months, the second one is the wake of the disaster and rebuilding.

Id say the second is way more about survival while being more fun.
Few weeks ago i was in the underground and looting a SHD tech cache and other stuff...i kinda hate dark and tight places so i wanted to get out of there soon. Told my self:what the hell is gonna happen anyways...walked out of the room and saw a dude with a chainsaw and some other guys...almost had an heart attack...died to them and never went to the underground ever again...

I once lured a chainsaw loco above ground and ran into a Hyena mob. Rather than fight them I ran off to hide, he chopped up a few of them before I finished him.
Same. When i was going to take the solar farms control point, I saw a group of these mole men right next to me, chainsaw boi with them. So instead of fighting both, i sent up my flare and lead them to the True sons so they can fight. They lost but made it easier to take the control point for me

@@marty3020 whenever you face these guys(solo probly but dont recommend) run with a chem lancher and drone gun to slow down and annoy the the chainsaw guy and shotgun spam his legs

Actually, they do not have a single line of dialogue in the game. Just the Chains, footsteps and chainsaw
There's actually another instance where they pop up in the missions. In the Fed emergency bunker, a group of underground will attack you in the first encounter in certain difficulties. They almost wiped out our squad a few times, but they never show up in the mission after it.
I wish they had more of a presence in the underground. Right now my encounters with them were so infrequent I didn't even realize they were different than outcasts
There's a whole lot of secret stuff going on in this game. I like there's a bigger picture someone controlling it behind the scenes.
These guys are a pain in my ass, i’m surprise that they didn’t make them a main faction in the game. That heavy with the chainsaw caught me off guard one day when i was going to the Dark Zone, i love how your theories on these underground guys however seeing them as hunter groupies are unlikely they’re too brutal and kinda sloppy with their tactics. But i love your videos regardless

I thought they were called "the lost", it's what I heard they were called by some of the npc's in game.
Remember, in DC, the Hunters more recently much more active in the Underground than anywhere else!
The first time I met these monster my frames started dropping and I had 2 big boys with chainsaws hitting me in a corner. I never wanted to go into the sewers again
Run with a member and have a chem lancher and drone to distract at this point u can choose to shotgun spam or waste gernade lancher to kill em off
There is a location in the western neighborhoods just like that one you referenced in Div1 with the rats. On the back porch of a house, looked like a ritual slaughtering of dozens of rats on a table. I'm not certain of the exact location, but I'm thinking it may have been in West End or there abouts.
I call these people ...."The Trash Can People" mostly because they have the melee NPCs with trash can lids as shields
You seen the gator tail in the underground?? it was a "Oh%^$&" moment!...lol
This faction is the only one that truly scares me. The chainsaws, their seemingly random spawns, its kind of lowkey creepy.
I see that "underground faction" just as a new wave of hunters in training

Hunters use high tech gear and weapons and most importantly skills they can hack your skills in a whim (something not even black tusks do) meanwhile "underground faction" uses a god damn chainsaw lol. If these are hunters on training they would at least be using standard turrets and someshit and I think having enough knowledge about the division and their tech in order to hack them wouldn't come from the sewers.
@@Mei-Faithful We don't know how much of a stock pile the Hunters have all for we know the Hunters in the world now. As and are using last of the saved stock pile "underground faction" or the "new wave" Has to use what they find in the world. That would also be a good lesson to teach that you can't rely on high tech gear there will be a time you will run out of resources to fix what the Hunters use.
@@steven200023 those hunters where in div 1 underground and survival but this can't b hunters in training because the hunters use the same tech we do plus if those where hunter they would spawn out of nowhere which these guys don't plus these r 2 weak 2 become hunters plus 4 all we know these hunters might actually be division agents because the same same shd tech they use

Your videos deserve so much more attention. If there's anything to be universally loved about the division series so far, it's the story. You really drive that home, and I can't stop watching your videos. You got me to re-launch Division 1 and play it again just for the lore. I know you've seen my other comments on your older videos, but you've got serious talent my dude. You could do this for any videogame you wanted, and you chose The Division. Thank you.
When I first heard that saw, it freak me out, then when started to chase me (way early in the game) I ran screaming like a little schoolgirl.

First time I saw a chainsaw guy was during the assault of a control point, I thought it was some kind of hunter due to the ballistic mask and almost jumped from my chair
That day I learned that the Devs really like ballistic face masks

In the division 2 I was looking for hyena keys in the underground I was walking around and I heard chains dragging across the ground and they ambushed me it scared the shit out of me
The tunnel rats have increased awareness compared to other factions, they are much more likely to hear your movements than other factions but their visual detection of agents seems to be equal to other factions.

I always wondered about these people. I figured the biggest thing was that they didnt want to put in the work of making them a faction and thats why they dont have dialogue. Also im pretty sure theres another rat sacrificing table behind one of the control points in Division 2 that also has a weird book. Idk if theyre related or not. Love the video btw 👍
Also that same rat sacrifice thing exists in division 2 as well plus I’ve found couple of recordings that suggested people are eating food with kind of meat that they don’t know what it is.

I decided one day to farm underground areas for keys and supplies. Because anytime I used to go there wouldn't be anyone there so cool I could get stuff and not worry about fights. So one day I'm down there getting keys and I kept hearing what I thought was a motor. I stopped but didn't hear it and then it happened again I legit got chills and thought maybe I was hearing shit. Because something like that isn't normally what you hear in the divison. Sure as shit I started to hear someone walking and chains rattling. Come around the corner and some guy with a chain saw comes charging at me. Never expected to be spooked in a division game.
They sit at the halfway in the mall between the monument and the Lincoln memorial at any given time. First time I met them and they thrive in the sewers below the mall.

I just played the truesons mission with the news station and i noticed the boss was with a hobo ninja or trashcan shield people

Whilst running through quite a long hallway inside of a building I saw a dark silhouette running towards me in a crazy manner and I almost had a heart attack. Turned out to be one of these "Scavengers".
I thought they were outcasts at first, until some guy smashed me in the face with a fucking shield

There a Rat Sacrificing site in Division 2 as well! It's in an alley at the West End area, not too far from the attic safe house. Ran into it today while looking for an artifact painting called "The Great Red Dragon and the Woman" and it was right next to the artifact painting!

First time i saw one of these it was just one single guy and he was crouched over a bag scavenging stuff in a corner in the underground, i took him out easy pz then i turn the corner a few seconds later and there is a whole squad that i couldnt here at all the whole time
Was running around D.C. the other day in the division 2 and found another cultist rat sacrificial site on the west side of D.C.
Great video the inclusion of the civilian journals sealed it for me i completely forgot about them, now im fully on board. Ive been pondering the origins of this faction for so long thanks for rounding it up

During my first playthrough of d2 i ran in to a chainsaw guy in the tunnels. Its one of my strongest memories of the game. I was simultaneously terrified and overjoyed -- that there was some crazy horror-toned shit you could completely miss, i never thought i would see that in a game that seemed such a straightforward looter shooter. I dont think i ever encoutered another one during that playthrough, and didnt realize they were part of another faction until much later. I didnt have wony at the time so i took a long hiatus from the game until i got it. Now that im playing it again im really trying to dig in to the secrets and weird creepy things on the fringes. Absolutely love stuff like that. Im always sad they didnt do more side missions like the agent edwards one with a creepy atmosphere and mystery to it
I was wondering in the sewers thinking it was an empty mission area and ended up getting chased back to the surface. I didn’t look back. All I heard was foot steps, chains, and a chainsaw. I ended up fainting for a split second. It was a great scare

but kidding aside, in all my 550+ hours of playing, I just ran into the tank archetype for my first time ever. It was at the start of the Lincoln memorial main mission, at daytime... I pooped myself with the jumpscare lol

Yo this was a BANGER! every bit about these guys is so interesting. I've seen that gators tail in the sewers, I forget where but I know somewhere through a grate you can see a gator tail around a corner
I don't go into the underground at night as usually I'm just going wherever I wish. Night time though, I can at times see them on the surface and they are still kinda spooky. If they ever create dlc that takes us into the Underground subways of DC, we might get a bit more of them.
Ah yes I was wondering who they were. I noticed one of them talking to wade ( true sons view point museum boss ) when you spot him in the recording booth during the mission. And he screams at him to “just go run” and giving him something.
I first encounter this faction while collecting SHD caches down in the sewers, I was fairly new to the game and just getting familiar with the factions and environment at the time.
It was all quiet, nothing but rats, clanking of the pipes and steam are the most audible sound you can hear down there, plus the occasional gunshots on the surface.
If not for the red indicator on the edges of the map I would never have expected someone to be down there, I expected a few of them, so I positioned myself always taking the higher ground, popped out of cover and took the first shot with my trusted mk17... A few charged at me up the stairs so I fall back to the doorway where I came in and waited. Dropped 3 of them real quick then I heard the revving, I quickly dismissed the thought of it, until the sound gets closer and closer, quite unsure and weary of what it is, I fall back deeper where I came from,
A long narrow tunnel with the ladder behind me just in case it's something I need to runaway from 🤣. My heart was pounding as I suspensefully await what's coming around the corner, and surely this hulking beast armed with chainsaw came into sight, emptied both my Primary and Secondary before I broke it's armor and took him down.
Definitely one of the most memorable and scariest moments I had as a new player.
I know you guys had it worse with the hunters in the Division 1. Having only to be able to play Division 2 I haven't encountered the hunters yet, I heard you need to spawn them in which I didn't like so much, why'd you spawn something to take you out? Lol
Anyways, that's just my take on my first encounter with this faction, definitely the most rare factions to come against out there, though I still see them running towards at me throwing knives when free roaming at night which was truly immersive af. I just hope they remove the red indicators on the map for threats on these guys for a more unpredictable encounter, that would be fun as hell. 🍻
I remember the first I came across these guys in one of the sewers south of the White House. There was no light and I could just hear them and it was just footsteps and chains. I heard the chainsaw start, switched to my pistol with a flashlight and about sh!t my pants. It wasn’t easy to take them down because switching back to my rifle I couldn’t see them. Whoever thought of this definitely did a good job.

It Makes Sense that The Chainsaw members of the Underground now of the hunter since if you look at their Mask Its Extremely similar to the hunter mask only that the top of the mask isnt there which lets the reveal of hair or maybe They are Hunters who've gone Crazy

First time I ran into them I was looking for the keys for my chatterbox and there was fighting above me so I didn’t know that they were right next to me until I heard footsteps and just seen people running at me and nearly pooped myself

I remember I was looting a room in the sewers one time when my minimap went red and I heard footsteps all around me. By this point in time I'd had plenty of encounters with the Underground so I knew what to expect, but that didn't make them freak me out any less. The room only had one door (technically two but the other had a lock on it so I wasn't worried about them getting in that way) so I took cover behind something near the door and just waited with my shotgun at the ready.
I spent what had to be five solid minutes sitting there, tense as hell, waiting for the silent fucks to charge in and get a face full of buckshot. After a while I got sick of waiting and decided to charge out and meet them, only to find nobody there, despite my minimap saying they were surrounding me. Confused, I looked up and saw the health bars for some enemies aboveground I'd somehow gotten the attention of, but because I wasn't near the ladder down, they couldn't get to me. Still don't know why I heard their footsteps like they were right next to me but not their voices, but audio on console is a bit buggy, so that's probably it.
@thedenseone6443 I almost had a similar experience but mine was when I was in a Contaminated Zone where there shouldn't be any enemies, entered a room and suddenly I heard footsteps running around and it's an isolated building, nothing should spawn and wander above or around it. It's dark as hell and Contaminated Zones have a creepy atmosphere to begin with so it just added to the fear I had that time lol. There's some spooky encounters out there for sure.
