Sewing with Sarah! Learn how to stitch a flat-felled seam without a sewing machine. All you need is needle and thread and your own two hands. This tutorial walks you through the step-by-step of how to create a flat-felled seam using a backstitch and a hem (or felling stitch). This technique is perfect for seaming unlined garments both historically and today. Let’s get stitching!

This is the channel that I've been searching for since April 2020,LOL. A channel all about hand stitching and how to use it, why to use that stitch over an other etc. just the same way anyone would learn to sew with a machine. This is great!

@@sewncompany Yes it's really helpful! Looking forward to your next upload. I purchased a book :
The Modern Maker vol. 3: Handsewing Stitches for Garment Construction
by Mathew Gnagy , are you familiar with it? Maybe an idea, a review/recommendation on books that only focus on hand sewing techniques/projects?

Ah! That's what I was taught in safety meetings, making sure the bottom drawers to filing cabinets were closed to avoid tripping over them, picking up paper off the floor so you don't slip down and stretching your wrists to avoid carpal tunnel! Good advice, thanks.

Love your wisdom on 'remember what your hands can do', and 'there's a person behind the seams'. Thanks! Using your flat-felled technique today on a 10x10 oilskin tarp's center seam.

Very nice work, nice video. My stitches are not as straight as yours are so I need to mark them, but practice will change that. Thanks for this!

Sarah, my friend, with all due respect allow me to politely disagree with you. Sewing with your hands is VERY SEXY!!! Not only is it sexy, but it's healthy for the mind and body! I come from a family of hand sewers, and we never developed any neuro-muscular or tendon problems. In fact, my grandparents (sewers, of course) never developed arthritis! Their hands encompassed eternal youth! Forgive my correcting you, I just didn't want to see you under-credit yourself! Warm Regards!

Hello Sarah, I'm really enjoying your videos. Your instructions are so clear and encouraging. Are you using 8 inch or 10 inch dressmaking shears?
