- The Cadillac is all wrapped up and as Davin says, "is purring nicely." However, there's no shortage of projects around the garage. This week Davin shifts his attention back to Snowball's dirt track racer in hopes of getting that one step closer to the track. Creating a custom crossmember is a fairly straightforward task, but that doesn't mean you can zone out on the process. As the old adage says, measure twice cut once. Davin holds true to this as he works to get the best fit for our Chrysler A-833 transmission.

"a grinder and paint
make me the welder I ain't" (AvE).
Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking, chief!
Awesome as always. I never miss any video with Davin. Best part of Hagerty online.
"scattered in a very strategic manner" - Yep, I'm adding that one to my list:)
“Trust me I’m a professional”
That's what I'll call my garage !
I missed out on this video on release, due to all the other stuff that, although entertaining if you have spare time, fills up this channel and hides the content that I am interested in. This racecar rebuild and the barn find series are what brings me back so keep it coming :)
Thanks for sharing Davin👍
Stay Safe👍
That Bridgeport mill is a great addition to the shop! Looking for one myself.
I enjoyed the "whoops"! Once you have a horizontal bandsaw, you'll wonder how you ever did without it. Same thing happened with my sawzall.
Well done Davin 👍 💯 thumbs-up to you. Cheers guys
Love what you guys do in that shop! Props to your camera crew for showing how these things come together!
Super strong cross member, cool. 😎👍🇨🇦
Just picked up a bridgeport of my own. Nice piece of equipment for fabricating.
Nice crossmember, but one thing... That trans mount is 69 and earlier and it is captured in a box within the factory crossmember. The way you have it mounted leaves only the 5/16 stud to locate the trans. If you add walls around it on your existing perch, you'll be good to go.
Great job man, alway happy to see your professionalism and enthusiasm!
yes the timelapse was really cool keep doing it
Good video. I thought it odd that you have such a nice shop and tool selection but no porta-band. So much better than a recip.
Good job mate 👍 from Kazakhstan
I see you have the best c-clamps money can buy those are the best
Another inspiring video. Thanks for the reminder to get to my shop to get my work done.
Davin isn’t there anything about theses builds that intimidate you? You makke it look easy!
Good one!
Make me remember when I was younger, I got told by the boss, If you didn't learn how to weld, at least learn how to grind!!🤔🤔
We all need a lil motivation once in a while.🤣🤣🤣
Oh! By the way, I did learn how to weld since...😜🍻
J.F.🇨🇦
Yeaaah, damn i love Davin' style
GREAT JOB, GREAT VIDEO, [ BACK TO WORK ]...
Last time I was this early, Davin was narrating a time lapse of a 350 SBC build.
Proud to be mechanic ❤️
I personally love those blades for cutting steel and cast iron
that trans mount is the nicest part of the entire car.
Nice man
I'm just wondering why the cross member is offset to the mounting holes in the gearbox. I would put the member directly under the mounting holes, which would give a much stiffer construction. Well, that is just my take, I bet there is a very good reason why it was done that way. Thanks for the vid!
good video man
In the first "day" you look a bit tired.. all clear, Davin?
Please look for yourself and stay healthy, we need more of your unlimited build knowledge! :)
“ A grinder and paint make me the welder I ain’t”! Red Green show PBS!
Why have you guys not got a plasma cutter??🙈
Its a yankin back and forth saw when you pinch the blade.
Love it
A motor is an engine. An engine is not necessarily a motor. Now I'm going to start the engine in my motorcar and go for a drive ;)
Some would say you have that exactly backwards. A fuel consuming engine is a motor but an electric motor is not an engine.
All engines are motors but not all motors are engines. Engines use thermal energy. Motors use any type of energy.
That Caddy has a nervous tick!🤣
awesome
Nothing much handier than a speed square. I use mine more on steel than wood anymore. LOL Race car is looking good, is that in any primer / epoxy?
Too funny. I just had to make a custom cross-member for my 66 Beaumont. All for a nice exhaust that doesn't hang to low
Keep it simple. 440 ci perfect start ))
He's like, like.... .... The Dr. Frankenstein of the automotive world! 🙏👍
the diablo blades Ive been using for about 4 years now doing part out and literaly cutting cars up with them, they are expensive *15 bucks each 40 plus for a pack at the homedepot) but cut way faster and cleaner than every other brand Ive tried .. I pair it with the milwaaaaaaake sawzALL 18v
General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Mopar all say, "Hi".
The pipe fitters from Terre Haute call it putting on a DeWalt cap
Motors go in washing machines, engines go in cars(and Honda mini trails) :)
Motor, engine... What connects your engine to the frame? Motor mounts. What propels a harley davidson MOTORcycle down the highway? A V twin engine.
Engines are powered by some type of liquid fuel. Motorcycle engine, car engine , tractor engine, lawn mower engine. A motor is powered by electricity. Heater and AC motor, windshield wiper motor, starter motor.
Can you please go ALL OUT on the engine build? Use every trick for n the book to get maximum horsepower! I really want the see it do wheelies!! :)
Hallo! It would be nice to see a video using same technique to do a Trailer hitch. 👌👌 Greetings from 🇲🇽
Since you brought it up, Davin, what's your definition between engine and motor... Other than one goes in a Motorcycle.
You didn't give a description of the tranny mount used here, but it sure looks like a Mopar mount. If it is, it is made to be incased in a box surrounding all sides of the mount. For what I see, you'd have been far better off using a chevy tranny mount and raising the cross member. That would give the trans the needed support and give far more room for exhaust. I think this is the first time I have ever not agreed with you on your choice!!
Can we get a shop tour video?
👍
Motor: "A machine, especially one powered by electricity or internal combustion, that supplies motive power for a vehicle or for some other device with moving parts" Oxford definition
Motor: "any of various power units that develop energy or impart motion: such as:
a: a small compact engine
b: INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE especially : a gasoline engine
c: a rotating machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy" - Merriam-Webster definition
That is why they are called motor vehicles......
Davin even calls the 440 a motor at 14:24.....
lol the tape measure is in the drawer where the speed square was ..lol
I've been waiting for some progress on this car. I can't wait to see the engine build and install, and suspension install..is Tom Cotter coming back? .🙂
Plz do restoration video of that blue bike in the shop
Those electric saws shake the plasma out of my blood
The rubber trans mount is not a good idea. Circle track engines are direct bolted to the chassis.
If you do use that mount the rubber part of it goes into a pocket with metal on al sides of the rubber.
4:10 ups :) :D
Motors have wires and go in washing machines. If it is an internal combustion "thing", it's an engine. It would be assumed that if the transmission mount is flexible then the engine mounts up front are solid, correct? No way do you want both to have flex or the engine WILL torque.
Another excellent video as allways..luv the new bridgeport, their so handy for any part making ,is it digital ??
I have the same Dewalt grinder, what is your preferred disc for grinding welds? Thanks
Good one.
You do look a bit tired.
Every time I watch these videos I think “I gotta learn to weld”
Anyone else?
Add gussets!
Looking forward to another update on the CT 70
5:43 "I don't even like 4 inches. I think that's a little narrow."
That's what she said.
Have I missed the engine rebiuld? Is the 37 Ford/Mopar done?
Motors don't go in motor cars? And drive on a motor way?
Davin is the reason I’m here I don’t watch anything else on hagerty just being honest
Is the old man who had that race car still alive?
correction - ENGINES run on gas, MOTORS are electric
Why is it called "The motor city?"
@@karlh6700 as Joaquin Phoenix said in Gladiator: "it vexes me". electric motors and internal combustion engines, no ifs, ands, or buts.
As always an amazing video, Hagerty.
Regarding the crossmember, how do you think will be the durability of the crossmember since that part will be supporting a lot of vibrations coming from the gearbox? In the long term, it might crack and break.
Maybe it would be ideal to add some rubber mounts in the connection?
Thank you for the great content.
Такая мощная поперечина, а посередине кронштейн из полосы, не слабовато будет?
Не, там все все сделано грамотно
Motors are electric. Had that beat into me in the 60's.
That rubber mount piece does not look 440 torque proof.
Gets much worse in some parts of the world, where 'motor', 'car' and 'engine' are interchangeable. For instance, I might go to the garage with a bad misfire, say. Conversation with mechanic might go...
"Got a problem with the motor."
"Aye, what's up?"
"The motor's running on three."
And the point will be understood.
Besides which, they're all machines: devices to transform one form of energy into another.
(Runs for cover)
Dude your back must be killing you. You know, carrying the channel and all.
People's definition for engines and motors differ from mine, an engine produces its own power while a motor uses an external source, ie electricity or other sources.
thats all we get after all this time, a few lousy seconds of run time????
See the time lapse video, at the end it has more run time.
Motor vs Engine
coming to terms with terms
It gets blurry, butt let's fight over it cause it's fun to learn and confuse at the same time.
Here's a suggested line of thinkin,
A "MOTOR" is acted upon by some form of "ENERGY" to cause an action
Examples would be electricity making a motor rotate, compressed air spinning a pneumatic motor, falling water turning a water wheel, and so forth.
An "ENGINE" takes a "FUEL" and chemically CONVERTS it into mechanical energy.
BUTT as long as we aren't too picky, we can interchange these two terms
[yawn] oh my that was boring
Please, somebody come along and mince words and tell me I've got it all wrong
Since "motors" are electric, that is a "enginecycle." LOL Yeah, it does actually make sense. You "could" say an "electric engine" and an internal combustion "motor." Just another oddity of "American English." I have no words for the Brits.... "Take the Tube to the Loo." LOL
Btw, I don't read the comments on my comments, so if you are a troll, please comment below and just sit there refreshing. I'll get right back to you.
Do Americans say electric cars have "engines" ?
I usually like all these videos. Y'all need to figure out lighting...
Sorry but that brimless baseball cap looks goofy
It’s a welding cap so you don’t burn what’s left of your hair completely off!
@@Hoaxer51 I know what it is, it still looks ridiculous
Nice motor. Engines are mounted into a vehicle using "motor mounts". Some words are just interchangeable. Nice try.😁
A motor is an Electrical component not a mc engine single or multiple cylinders.
Motors are electrical. Motors don't go in motorcycles unless it is an electric motorcycle. lol
don't you mean ENGINECYCLES?
oh wait
motorcycle
how many cycles do a motor have?
Thats the ugliest crossmember ive ever seen. Yikes
I agree. These guys have all the tools and shop space and that's all the better they can fabricate. I've seen better mounts and brackets fabricated by guys with half the tools and a tiny garage.
If i have money like you i will make you like nothing
