After her 2nd regular album [Last Fantasy] and the mini album [Every end of the Day], IU is coming back after 1 year and 5months with the new theme of 'Maturity through musical development'.
The title song is a new work done by Lee min-soo and Kim eana togtheter, and they got their inspiration from the Anderson fairy tale [ The Red Shoes], which is about a red shoe that if you wear it, you will dance no matter of your own will.
The song has 1930s big band swing mixed with classical and vintage parts in it. The session work is also done in a 1930s classical swing style. In order to do this, the master of drama/animation/musical music,Toyama Kazuhiko, and under his direction, the best big band of Japan worked together. It was done in a improvisation manner, and here Lee min-soo's dramatic song line and the chorus worked well with to make a 'big' music.

2ndフルアルバム[ Last Fantasy ]とミニアルバム[二十歳の春]以来1年5ヶ月ぶりに発表するアイユの新しいアルバムは、'音楽的な成長を通じた成熟'というテーマで企画・制作された。
タイトル曲「ピンクシューズ」はイ・ミンス、キム・イナ、コンビの新作で、赤い靴を履くと自分の意志とは関係なく続けて踊るようになるという内容のアンデルセン童話'赤い靴（The Red Shoes）'からインスピレーションを受けて完成した曲だ。
1930年代のビッグバンドのスイング・サウンドをベースにクラシカルでヴィンテージな要素を加えて期待を高める。セッションの作業も、1930年代の古典的なスイング感を最大に生かすために、ドラマ∙アニメ∙ミュージカル界の巨匠Toyama Kazuhikoの指揮の下、日本現地で最高のビッグバンドメンバーたちと一緒に即興演奏（ Improvisation ）技法で録音を行った。ここにイ・ミンス作曲家特有のドラマチックな展開と洗練されたコーラスが加わり、スケール感のある曲に仕上がった。

타이틀곡 '분홍신'은 이민수-김이나 콤비의 새로운 작품으로, 빨간구두를 신으면 자신의 의지와 상관없이 계속해서 춤을 추게 된다는 내용의 안데르센 동화 '빨간구두(The Red Shoes)'에서 영감을 받아 완성된 곡이다.
1930년대 빅밴드 스윙 사운드를 기반으로 클래시컬하고 빈티지한 요소를 한 데 녹여 기대를 더한다. 세션 작업 역시 1930년대 고전 스윙의 느낌을 최대한 살리기 위해 드라마∙애니메이션∙뮤지컬 음악계의 거장 Toyama Kazuhiko의 지휘 아래 일본 현지에서 최고의 빅밴드 멤버들과 함께 즉흥 연주(Improvisation) 기법으로 녹음이 진행되었으며, 여기에 이민수 작곡가 특유의 드라마틱한 전개와 정교한 코러스가 더해져 스케일 감 있는 곡으로 마무리되었다.

아쉬워도 이게 답이였음 마냥 이런 장르만 하기엔 나이도 먹어가고 그리고 이런류의 노래 찍기가 매우 힘듬 좋은날 너랑마 분홍신 작곡가들이 엄청 유명한 거장들이고 23살에 마녀사냥 당하면서도 본인이 프로듀싱 참가하고 그후 리메이크곡과 서정적인 노래로 남녀노소가 인정하고 좋아하는 가수로 인식됨에 따라 나의 아저씨 호텔 델루나로 배우로서 인정받고 좋은날 너랑나 분홍신이 아직도 아이유에게 가장 성공한 곡들이지만 여기서 끝냈기에 이 세곡이 더 추억있고 가치 있다고 생각

If you liked this song then honestly the whole Modern Times album is freaking amazing. Its one of my favorite albums ever really. I wasn't a real fan of hers until Modern Times was dropped, its definitely worth listening to.

Why isn't anyone pointing out that this is a really sad song. And IU, a ghost in this MV is a simile to the lyrics, that she's forgotten over time by her lover, and that all she wants is to relive that 'Summer Time.'

This is an update of The Red Shoes - IU is a struggling entertainer who puts on a pair of Red Shoes that make her a great dancer - she becomes famous - but the shoes force her to keep dancing - and she ends up dying because the shoes drain her life - she comes back to relive that amazing summer.
Thats what happens in the Grims fairy tale Red shoes, that made the girl keep dancing on forever until she cut off her own feet and died.

But I love this story line of this album the most.
It was so mystic and angtsy. Her character left a big impact to me.
She stuck in a time-line and retrospective which made this song hundred times better.
My favorite IU production of all time
MY TAKE ON THE MV: The dude is IU's past lover. When the movie of IU starts playing in the beginning in black and white, it shows her dancing on stage, and running towards the special shoes. When she jumps into the shoes, IU's ghost suddenly comes out of the movie reel and into the man's real life. They have a great time catching up, reminiscing the good Summer Times, because the red shoes allow IU to be with her lover. However, when the guy tosses the red shoes aside and gives her the pink ones, the red shoes get upset. They come alive and seek revenge on IU, chasing her down and taking her back to her world, where she fades back into a ghost at the end. She wants so badly to stay in the good Summer Times with her lover and "stop the time", but she knows they cannot be together, and that he will forget her, but her ghost doesn't give up on searching for him. Despite the song's happy tune, the lyrics and the mv seem quite dark and sad but I like it :)

9Fashionista411 I thought it was from a classical novel. Grim story, Red shoes if I'm not wrong. Some ppl say it too in the comments. She got famous for the red shoes that can make her dance but the shoes seems psychopathic therefore makes her dance until she has to cut her feet off and die. I'm not sure if the mv and actual story is the same tho.

Modern Times - Epilogue is one of the best eras and it is my favorite. The concept is so artistic and less modernized. Not that I don't like the other albums but I wish she would come back to this concept soon with older various styles such as swing, jazz, latin inspired, etc because the arrangement in this album is so magical.

The story of the MV: A man is watching an old film that he and IU were once a production of. The film is a representation of the past that didn't end well with the two, as shown in the brief black&white recall scene with the guy in a trench coat and IU in an actor's room. In the beginning, it is shown that the film is "passed and certified", as in it is a FINISHED production that can't be edited anymore. However, the man edits it anyway to his liking, representing how he wants to change the fate. It's soon revealed that his editing of the film brings a slightly clueless IU to his time, or rather a film-version of IU that is different from a real-life person; this is indicated by how IU acts a little childishly around the new people she sees, as if she has never interacted with real people before. The man is very happy with this version of IU, and tries to live out a happy life that he didn't get to have with the real-life person. However, her abandoned red shoes which is something that followed her from the film (and the original events, which was that the man and IU separated), eventually hunts her down to fix the fate that has been artificially changed. She is dragged back into her film, hence the blurry black&white flickers on IU at the end which is what happens when you edit films the traditional method by cutting & taping. The moral of the story: you can't change the past/fate.

This is a lovely adaption of the original story by H.C Andersen. It's to me even better than the 40s movie, because it's such a short story it's better told in this format. Also, I am weak to IU's voice, and the song is incredibly catchy, the choreography is great, and anything else here is great. I love it!
A valiant effort we all made. She didn't win any awards on MAMA, but we all know in our hearts that she is every image of perfection being that of an artist, actor, and song-writer. We shouldn't be too materialistic because a piece of metal does not amount to our dedication as fans or IU's hard work (she's at her solo concert right now!!). I don't need an okay from a critic/judge to know that IU is very talented and established because I know she'll be back to showcase her many musical sides in no time. We fought hard this year, but we'll just comeback with an even stronger and bigger fanbase next year, and definitely win many awards for her.
Most people only see IU as beautiful Kpop/Korean idol, but she is much more deeper than that. Her 3rd album "Modern Times" proved of how musically-talented & versatile she is, compared to many other Kpop/Korean artists. This album shows of how she is not just only a "pretty, cute Kpop idol", rather, IU is an artist & musician that I also hugely & deeply respect in the Korean music scene. This album is a very underrated masterpiece musical artistry, sadly..
4:16부터 4:46까지가 왤케 슬프지 분명 몇년전까지만 해도 진짜 신나는 노래였던 것 같은데 지금 들으니까 좀 슬프다 내가 노래를 들을때는 가사를 꼭 보는데, 예전에 생각한 분홍신이라는 노래는 순수하게 진짜 길을 잃은 줄 알았는데 (?) 지금의 내가 분홍신의 가사가 슬프다고 느껴진다

I was a little disapointed to see that this song wasn't going to be a take on he popular ballet piece "The Red Shoes", but it's still an amazing song. I love the 20s and 30s jazz feel on the piece, the blaring trumpets, the complicated piano, amazing sound to it. Some parts of this piece could actually be jitterbugged to, which you rarely get in modern music. Good job IU, in bringing back the old style.

I never really knew her music but I had seen her in tv shows and everyone knows IU. But after seeing a video of her meeting Corinne Bailey Rae (her favourite singer and biggest musical influence) I felt like I got to learn more about her and I decided to look up her singles... wow.
