We had one in a box of my grandfather's things. I think it was made by a company called Twinplex but that seems to be used as generic name like 'Hoover' for vacuum cleaners.
Yep my brother has my Grandfather’s, I was only thinking about it today as I use that type of razor blades and would love to have a go at it ,they flip the blade over after a few rotations and then back over again and it repeats that action
Everyone is correct it's a double-edge razorblade sharpener. It's designed to flip the blade over and over as you crank it. The stone is slightly moistened w/fine oil to hone and the leather strops the wire edge off. Missing the lid. Made 1 blade last for MONTHS!!! I inherited one from my Dad who inherited it from his dad. I used it for many years until I decided to grow a full beard. I am a 71yo Disabled Vet.......
My grandfather had a similar device. It was a rotating leather(?) disk with a little clamp that held a razor blade against the disk. And as you turned the crank the clamp would occasionally lift up, rotate 180 degrees, and then go back down. No idea what happened to it. My parents weren't the type to throw things away but I haven't seen it in decades. Maybe it sold at the household auction after Dad died.
I bombed this time! The only one I knew for sure was the ceramic chicken roaster. Trying to cook chicken in a microwave is never a good idea. Comes out rubbery with an unpleasant texture. Being ceramic, that could also be used in a conventional oven. Ever notice the cookbook sections of thrift stores have more microwave cookbooks than any other kind? It's because microwaves are better at reheating than cooking! Especially meat or dough, blech! 😝 NOBODY wants those cookbooks! The "football with wings" made me think of the Golden Snitch of Quidditch from Harry Potter, but I figured it's boat related. I didn't get more than that, though. I knew the snuff bottles because I have a few, not any as beautiful as these! I would wear those as pendants.😃
It’s a safety razor strop / hone. You use this when you want to touch up the blade on your safety razor between shaves. My husband’s grandfather had and used one. The blade goes in the part that pulls out, the when you crank it, it runs the leather drums across the blades, then flips the blade over each time the crank turns once to strop the opposite side.
I had a perfect score today - I didn't know any of them. Ah well. On that last item the "crumbling paint" is in poor shape in places but it's supposed to be wrinkled like that. It both hides imperfections in the metal and for anything that was hand held gives more grip than smooth paint would.
I believe the item at the end is a razor blade stropper or sharpener. The 2 bars that pull out hold double edge blades and the crank rotates the 'Leather?' stropper rolls, that put a 'razor sharp edge' on the blade.
Agree that that the last one was a blade stropper, probably for safery razor blades (would need to see the center holder more closely to gerify. Another commenter refers to the blade flipping over when the crank is operated, but I don't see any way that the one pictured can flip the blade while cranking. When I was a child, my grandfather polished/stropped his razor blades in a drinking glass, but I didn't understand what I had seen until talking to my father years later.
I'd take a stab at the "what is it?" item at the end, except that the stupid "watch one of these vids next" end-card covered it up so thoroughly that I could barely tell there was anything being shown at all. GET RID OF THOSE STUPID END-CARDS THA EVERYBODY ELSE STOPPED USING 10 YEARS AGO!!!!!
LAST ITEM IS A SHARPENER FOR RAZOR BLADES. I HAVE ONE IN MY BATHROOM AND ITS NOT GREAT. EASIER AND BETTER TO JUST REPLACE THE BLADE TBH, BUT INTERESTING TO TRY.
Hear is a fun fact about the propelr pitch adjuster, they were pretty much MANDITORY on multi engine airplanes " feathering " the propellar blads HAD to be adjusted edge forward if one engine failed!! To maintain control of the airplane, otherwise the drag of the unfeathrd blades would cause the wing with the failed engine to cause the airplane to go out of control du to the increased drag on THAT wing!!
Also reversing the propeller on landing is a way used to slow down a airliner and save your brakes, you touch down as soon as your wheels touch the runway, you reverse the pitch then rev up the engine ( VERY noisy but VERY effective in slowing the plane without burning up your brake shoes!!)
Not manglers…….you mean mangles (machines with 2 rollers you turn a handle to rotate the rollers that squeeze the cloth, removing the water from laundry).
Good grief, I feel so dumb , I said the first object was a hair coat thinner for grooming. I guess I stunk as a all breed groomer using that on a dog . It does look like a coat stripper/thinner to me .
I think that was a good guess, since it looks similar to a hair thinning tool! I never would have guessed meat tenderizer. I'm still not sure how it would work for that, but then it's been a long time since I've been able to afford steak.
The last object is a razors blade sharpener. The part that slides out holds the razor then your crank the handle which turns the barrels to sharpen the razor. My grandmother had one I used to play with.
That last machine was for rolling joints. Put your weed in it and roll it, then put your paper in it, lick the edge, then roll it up. A doobie roller, lol.
Yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw that and immediately thought, "That's an older, cruder version of a "golden snitch" used for playing Quidditch in the Harry Potter books. Dang, it would really hurt to get hit with one of those, it'd knock ya right off your broomstick!🧹🧙🪄
@@kenthresh3350 I knew what you meant! I'm not one of those annoying people who pretend they don't understand something just because a word is one letter off. Those people get on my nerves!🙄
I think not a laundry mangler but a wringer. A mangler as I know it was like a large rotating iron to press linens and clothes -- used later in the laundry process.
That feathering prop looks more like a rugby ball shape than a football shape, footballs are spherical and they're kicked with a foot, it's in the name and should be obvious, unless you're American and then you can be excused because they're always calling things by the wrong name.
It is a double edge razor blade sharper. At one time, razor blades were expensive, sharpening a used blade was very common. As the slogan went, "Give them the razor but sell them the blades"
Razor sharpener haha it's a cigarette roller. Lay the paper flat sprinkle some tobacco roll the knob , the paper folds around the tobacco tada a cigarette. Oops 😬 wrong again razor sharpening tool imagine that.😊
I often wonder why we see so many of the same items in these videos. Seems like I see a needle case or bodkin in every third video and this is like the 5th or 6th razor blade sharpener. I understand these are not common anymore but are they so old that only old farts like me know what they are? God that’s a depressing thought.
I gotta say, at 72 years old, anything "at least 40 years old" is practically new!
Yes in 75 😊
I'm only in my early 60's but I agree. People talk about the 70's like it was a long time ago or something, sheesh ;)
Safety razor blade sharpener. Rollers are leather for stropping the blade
My dad had one as well, I used to play with it, the rollers turn and the blade holder flips to strop the other side of the twin blade.
We had one in a box of my grandfather's things. I think it was made by a company called Twinplex but that seems to be used as generic name like 'Hoover' for vacuum cleaners.
I have one like new in the original box. It was my father's.
Yep my brother has my Grandfather’s, I was only thinking about it today as I use that type of razor blades and would love to have a go at it ,they flip the blade over after a few rotations and then back over again and it repeats that action

I agree. I seem to recall my Dad had something similar.

@@xlerb2286 The one you describe is a Kriss-Kross double edge razor blade sharpener. I have one.
MY GOD!!! That football shaped object is an original Quiditch Snitch. Priceless. Wizards everywhere prize such an object.

You think anyone is gonna sit and read that whole comment? Are you high or just when you wrote that.

Same. And for the last one I guessed pencil sharpener. Oh well
Very, very interesting. Always wonder how brilliant some of these contraptions given the technology level in those days .
Almost certainly for sharpening razor blades.
We had a Black Mouth Cur named Belle also, she was a good dog. My husband said “Coal” would be a good name for your horse.
I believe the item at the end is a razor blade stropper or sharpener. The 2 bars that pull out hold double edge blades and the crank rotates the 'Leather?' stropper rolls, that put a 'razor sharp edge' on the blade.
Itt. Sharpens double edge razer blades. You drop the blade in close the cover turn the knob and it rotates the blades. To sharpens them.

Safety razor blade sharpener. It strops the blade then flips it over and strops the other side, as you turn the handle.
Last one looks like a cigarette making machine my dad had in the ancient of daze.
It a container. You fill with water and rub a gummed label across so as to adhere to a bottle. Etc.
The last one looks like a razor blade sharpener for double edge razors that went and do safety razors
Last one cigarette roller.😊
The “snuff” bottles are actually opium bottles.
I'm Guessing the mystery device at the end prints labels for Wine Bottles
A long shot guess. How about a razor blade sharpener for the last item.
I think you are correct.
I saw a restoration of such a tool lately.
I concur.
I was going to guess a noodle press but it doesn't seem to have the rest of the features that a noodle press requires.

I'm pretty sure that the last one is a razor blade sharpener .. used back in the day when they weren't disposable
I'm not so sure about that feather prop thing, those don't look much like propeller blades. Otherwise, I have no idea what it might be.

Last one is a blade sharpener, got one just like it on a shelf along with a stright razor, and a shaving mug and brush,
Mangles, not manglers. Though many people who had to use them would agree with your version.😂
Looks like our old pencil sharpener, but a touch different.
I thought the feathering prop was a tarnished golden snitch from quidditch, otherwise I did okay.
Razor blade sharpener. No doubt. Saw a RUclips video restoring one almost exactly like this one
Mysterious tool is a nail puller...and still in use.
My hunches on the tea strainer and the snuff bottles proved correct, I'm happy to say. Again, thanks to 'Antiques Road Trip' for a lot of insight.
Excellent!
The mystery device shown is a safety shaving blade sharpener.
That last one is a razor blade sharpener
