    Thank you so much for this video, Nick, I was able to replace the exhaust manifold + turbo assembly on my 2015 Evoque largely following your video. I wanted to pass on a couple of tips from my experience while it’s still fresh in my mind.
    On my car, attached to the metal firewall is a black fabric/fiberglass part. It is attached to the firewall with 4 plastic nuts that need to be removed before the firewall can be pulled out. The fabric is fragile and will just rip apart if you don’t do this step. It is further attached down below the car in a way that I couldn’t easily detach, so I left it in place for the rest of the job.
    Before removing the heat shield around the exhaust manifold, disconnect the two coolant lines from the turbo assembly. They are the stainless-steel ones just behind the heat shield and will need to be removed later anyway, so better to get them out of the way of the heat shield. One of the lines is just a rubber hose connection and the other is a hex bolt. Disconnecting them and bending the tubes back will provide adequate clearance to remove the heat shield.
    When removing the studs for the exhaust manifold, note that the top center hole is not big enough to allow the stud to pass through. Remove the other 9 studs first, then unscrew the top center one. Doing this will pull the manifold away from the block, so make sure everything else is disconnected, especially the 3 bolts to the catalytic converter.
    I found it very helpful to completely remove the rear wheel well liners. It’s just a couple of fasteners and it provided much more access, especially on the passenger side.

      How do you remove the coolant lines?

    • @kevinbokelman6506
      @kevinbokelman6506 2 года назад

      There are two coolant attachments to the turbo. The first has a hex bolt (8mm) coupling. That is toward the bottom of square block between the turbo and the exhaust manifold facing the rear of the car. The other is a flexible hose attachment that comes out of the top. There's just a spring hose clamp for that one. On mine there was a flexible heat shield that was held on with snaps that covered it up. Just unsnap a couple of the snaps closest to the block and then slide the covering back to expose the hose clamp. The coolant lines are also attached to the block on the upper left side, but I found those connections very difficult to get to. Hope that helps.

    Thank you for this video. I was able to compete this job this week using a lot of tips in this video. My intake would not match up either. The instruction with the turbo stated the vband could be loosened and the housing could be adjusted. We mounted the turbo to the manifold and then adjusted the turbo until the intake mounts matched on the valve cover. Thank you very much for this video as it saved me $$$

    Thank you so much for the Video. I am a shop foreman at a local repair facility we sold our first turbo replacement on these ecoboosts. your edits and detail are excellent. Just a side note, the reason your suction pipe may not have lined up with the valve cover mount holes may be because of the cold impeller housing to hot impeller housing clocking. (i had to loosen the middle band clamp and move the cold side housing counterclockwise away from the engine and then retighten the band clamp in order for the plastic suction pipe to line up correctly)

    No need to pull the battery, ECM, or firewall. The turbo is easy to access without these steps. Ensure that one has a good mirror to visualize the oil return at the engine, and remove the front coolant line at the turbo, not the engine. This will save around 50% of the time involved. Took me around 4.5 hrs total. Only need to pull one wheel, but pull out the complete wheel arch liner, it gives a little more space to visualize and manoeuvre. A good selection of wobble bits and extensions is imperative. I only changed the cartridge, but it required the complete manifold/turbo housing to be pulled. Total cost, including new crush washers, cat bolts and turbo cartridge came out at around $300 Canadian.

    A very useful video. I'm getting an occasional P2034 error, but the car runs fine. But I also get a smell of exhaust in the cabin when the car starts, so I want to check to make sure I don't have a manifold crack. I hope with an endoscope and some minimal parts removal I can do an inspection! And knowing where the solenoid is mounted is useful, but I have read that in 2015 the location switched from on the turbo housing to on the car. I assume it's in roughly the same awkward location?

    • @NickVendetti
      @NickVendetti  8 месяцев назад +1

      the crack is typically located at the point where the runner meets the exhaust flange mating surface. There is typically a heat shield covering so it may be hard to see with the turbo still installed.

    I started this job at work and it's not going well. Haven't removed the firewall stuff yet though. Trying to work from below. I was going to just remove the studs and slip in a new gasket (that's what the Land Rover dealer told us) yet the middle top stud will not move past the manifold. The manifold hole is only big enough for the threaded part of stud and not the shoulder. Not I'm fighting it. I really believe the exhaust manifold is cracked at the corners as I see dark exhaust stains. I don't believe a gasket will solve the problem. I also found that one of the 3 cat bolts was loose which could cause an exhaust leak. Can't hardly get to them from the bottom. Your video didn't explain how you got to some of the stuff. Very hard job so far.

      @@NickVendetti There's another video explaining on how to replace just the manifold and leaving the turbo in place. I may try that. Perhaps your's is early enough that you didn't have the problem I did. The top manifold stud won't come out because the hole in manifold is too small and the cat bolts are very hard to get to. I'm working on the bottom one and will finish it off Monday and get the cat out of the way. At one point in your video you started to mention the dark stains on the heat shield but only for a second or 2 and than didn't explain what to look for on the manifold. I'm really pissed at Land Rover for telling us it was only a gasket. I was hoping they would cover the exhaust leak as an emission warranty or such. Now, it will be stuck in my stall for I don't know how long waiting for a manifold assy.

    • @NickVendetti
      @NickVendetti  2 года назад

      The turbo and exhaust manifold is all one part, I don’t know what years yours is but I thought it was all one piece. If you see the dark spots then it’s leaking, there’s nothing else to look for.

    • @keithwiebe1787
      @keithwiebe1787 2 года назад

      @@NickVendetti There's a band clamp that can be removed to allow the turbo to "hang" there while removing just the manifold. Will see if it's available separate from Land Rover. This is the EcoBoost Evoque correct? I have a ton of experience with EcoBoost but in much bigger vehicles. My LR friends told me this is a subframe / engine assembly removal or lowering type of job but it looks like it's more than doable in situ. A lot of people take the subframe out for this, which isn’t difficult if you have a lift but most of us don’t. When I was at the dealer I used to do these all day with the way I am showing. The factory service manual says to remove subframe but this is faster.

      you should be able to get it from any parts store or online, this kit came with it but it was a Land Rover OEM part. Im not sure what o2 sensor you are talking about specifically but sensor 1 is pre cat and 2 is post catalytic converter

    How much is a turbo charger and I was going to try and do it myself vs the shop. How much do they usually charge for the shop and parts to do it? Hopefully you answer because I need some advice in that area a lot.

    • @NickVendetti
      @NickVendetti  3 года назад

      Im not sure how much a shop would charge. I think the flat rate hours are about 6 hours so it depends what the shops charge per hour. my experience with these at the dealer were all replaced under warranty. you should keep all receipts and try to get Land Rover to cover the costs.

    Hi i have q simmilar problem but i did not find the turbo for replacement. Do you know if it is a good idea weld the damage turbo manifold

    • @NickVendetti
      @NickVendetti  3 года назад

      My customer supplied the turbo for me. It was from turbo parts Canada, I’m sure you can weld it but it might warp the manifold because of it being so thin

    • @jamesdarr6714
      @jamesdarr6714 3 года назад

      Sergio D its not possible to weld the broken manifold as its a two piece design- it typically breaks from the inside tube the once that happens and the integrity is compromised it starts to break on the outside tube where its visible.
      Welding just the outer portion would only be a band aide type fix that woukd break again in short order.
