It's a cool writing tool for sure. A quality marking tool is a definite must for every job. I've been using cheap carpenter pencils, and they always seem to break at the worst times.
I'm with Mtthew, my carpenter pencils break all the time. This kind of remind me of the Staedtler lead holders I used in mechanical and architectural voc tech. Just with the long stem allowing the pencil to pass through small openings. Great looking tool!
I have been using this for about a year now got mine off ebay in the uk it works great. Only problem is that small dust or dirt stops the end from coming back up after pushing it down. Bit mine comes apart so it can be cleaned then works great everything. Well worth a buy.
Looks cool. I generally use a #2 pencil, a pen (or silver pencil), if a normal pencil won’t show up and if all else fails I use a colored sharpie. I want to try the Milwaukee marking pen out (wet/oil surfaces are hard to mark). This is definitely a cool pencil but I lose mine too often to spend extra on a marking tool. I have even used nails to make a mark, lost my pencil and the closest thing I had. The best things about that pencil are the ability to mark deep holes the sharpener on hand.
These guys would have sort of a "bumbling buffoon" charm if they weren't constantly pandering to their corporate sponsors and spreading as valid every last bit of marketing gimmick and hype.
Oh sweet!!! Did you guys say it works on wet surfaces too? Thats awesome!!! Ive been using the paint pens but they always seem forever to work the paint into the pen tip, I have to worry about it drying out and the tip is so big its hard to a fine line or say I have hole I want to drill its so blunt I cant get it inside to make a detailed mark (if that makes sense LOL) Great Vid
I'm sorry guys, but I'll be unsubscribing after this one. These tool reviews are just ill prepared, and quite frankly hard to watch. Too much rambling, and not enough substance. I appreciate you trying to put out a product, and make money for yourselves, but it's just not my thing anymore. Good luck in your future endeavors.
Actually there is no preparation, We just open things up, just like you and give you our first instant impressions. That is real. We could sit and bore you over stats and claiming that we are pros but that is just not us. Sorry to see you go, you are welcome back anytime.
Tools In Action I can appreciate that, and there's plenty of positive comments of guys that love these vids, it's just not my style. I'll check back from time to time to see what's new, but I'm still removing you guys from my sub list. All the best and very good luck in the future.
dude the review of something shouldnt be your first impressions of it... and your response to the previous person pointing that out to you was as poorly worded as the videos...
Awesome guys, I saw the pencil in another video you guys did and I was hoping at some point you would mention the picca pencil. As a cabinet builder I always look for a quality marking tool and (while expensive) the picca has been the best pencil for woodworking Ive found. Its also the only pencil I havnt lost thanks to the cool green case that clips to my pocket. I dont think these things are widely available at this time, but Lee Valley tools out of Canada (I think) is where I ordered mine. They also have different lead colors and marker types available. For any woodworker or construction guy I would highly recomend. As always keep up the good work.
Also, if you go to ToolNut's Festool site you can get free shipping. The pencil is 2 bucks more but you don't have to pay $8 for shipping. I love ToolNut. They are awesome to deal with.
So glad I watched this video!! Went and bought the pencil and it's awesome! Another plus I found out about tool nut which is a great site! As an electrician I'm always using pencils, markers, etc for layouts, bending conduit, etc. This has been the best pencil I've ever bought!! Thanks guys!! Love the videos! You've influenced a lot of my tool buying.
It's a nice pencil, but is there really a big difference between this and a .05mm mechanical pencil? It's nice looking, cool color scheme, but in the end it's a $12 pencil. I use a disposible mechanical pencil and haven't had any problems with it marking on anything really. The only time I have an issue is if it's a wet surface, which this probably wont help anyhow. For that I use the Milwaukee marking pen that writes anywhere and on anything, including wet and oily surfaces. Now that's an awesome marking pen... have you seen those yet? Worth every penny, and 10 times better than a Sharpie!
what about the Chinese child slave labourers that have to work for peanuts just because you like to throw away stuff, have you ever though about that :-) also normal metal mechanical pencil with thick lead cost €2 in czech republic and it is made of metal.
I've watched a few of your reviews and they are at best comedic. The fact that you guys are debating wether or not this "pencil" is made of lead or graphite is ridiculous. Lead has not been used in pencils since before you were born, better yet... before your grandfather, his grandfather and his grandfather was born. And then you want to Google it!?!?! What's the point of an "open box" review if you're going to just recite what you read off the internet. Next time Google "how to make a review video".....👎
Not so new here, almost all in Scandinavia uses this always. I like this thing. I use the yellow crayon on metal often It is Graphite you have. It is a softer variation, so that it is possible to write little here and there. 👍
Thanks so much for posting this, guys! I've been wanting something like this and have been eyeing the FastCap long tip marker, but I really need something with color options - not just black. I even emailed them and asked if they would consider manufacturing in other colors and was told there were no plans for that. This looks like it will fit the bill perfectly. ToolNut shows red and yellow refills in addition to the black. Perfect! Thanks again, guys! Moze
Hey dan and eric! Not sure if you know this or not but i live in the UK and own DeWalt 18v xr i purchased a 20v max battery from the US to see if it worked on the 18v platform and it does!! So i can now get 20v max tools instead of spending hundreds of £££ on the 18v platform, cheaper DeWalt tools! Whats better than that!? Id like you to share this info for me please cheers guys Sam
"Ya deep holes" "who doesn't like deep holes ya" "ya deep holes" that's what she said. Was the line I was waiting for lolololol. How is this with pressure treated woods? I've been looking for a decent pencil to write in a pressure treated wood.
Pretty cool but I don't think it's going to replace those rectangular construction pencils. Those are cheap and easy to come by and if it breaks or you lose it, it's like 80 cents to replace. No doubt some dickhead will steal that pencil off someone on a job site.
Dudes, lol, it would be illegal if it contained lead. Here's the spec on the inserts: "Wax, inorganic and organic pigments, filler, tensides Composite and percentage share varies each color"
Graphite pencils have always been referred to as "Lead" pencils because of the resemblance of lead and graphite.....I'm sure these guys, like most people, know they're actually not lead but traditionally use the "LEAD" term when talking pencils.....jeeesh!
Innovative or gimmicky? I'll stick with my old reliable rectangular pencil. For how often I lose them, the rectangular pencil is the more sensible decision.

i like the colors only problem i would probably have with it is i would probably lose the green case thingy great video guys keep it up.
That little thing is pretty cool. Might have to order a couple.

I dig it. That lil sharpener is a nice bonus.
Looks interesting. Ive been using regular mechanical pencils, but rough wood tears the heck out of the lead (graphite?).
It's got a cool design. I like it.
That's pretty neat. I'd probably lose it. That's why I have boxes of pencils around.
It’ll come in handy when I write my name on my tool box..

Thanks man!
Haters gotta hate - I love you guys. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, John
Looks good but I keep pencils with my saws so I would need a bunch
Hmm....I've never seen a marking pencil like that before. It's pretty versatile.

Hi Sam, Yes I think we mentioned it in an article a while back.
That does look pretty cool. I need to buy other stuff to get free shipping. Its hard to spend 13 dollars on something and pay 8 dollars for shipping.
I'd like to see this replace the old carpenters pencils, that would be nice.
Very nice how that works on everything pretty much great for guys out in the field
1:27 water jet resistant!.....yea just wipes off with water 🤔
12$ hate to loose that pencil. It looks extremely handy, ill stick to my permanent markers.
I could see where that would be a handy marker to have
Thats a kool pencil/marker/pen, I like that! Im going to check it out at toolnut now!
Yeah looks nice but I'm used to the rectangle ones mostly because I keep it in my ear
No pencils are lead or ever were.
Is that really so hard to spot the difference between lead and grafite? C'mon...
"Ya deep holes" "who doesn't like deep holes ya" "ya deep holes" that's what she said. Was the line I was waiting for lolololol.
How is this with pressure treated woods? I've been looking for a decent pencil to write in a pressure treated wood.
Works awesome!
Neat pencil. i wouldn't buy one unless I saw one in store though
I thought we were going to see the last fight of UFC 175 for a minute there.
Nice pencil,a little pricey. I just steal/ borrow mine from work. By the way I liked to see a royal rumble between you guys. I bet I know who'd win.
Gonna pick these up this week
PICA DRY Pencil!! nice it is huge and you would never miss! TIA TOOL GIVEAWAY 5!
ha! coming soon
Speaking of give aways, who was the winners of the ego stuff you were supposed to announce 1 weak ago?
Probably not you. Impatient much?
This thing is sweet! Great review.
That's one cool pin.
Nice proper’s never used equipment lol I like when he didn’t know what to call a carpenters pencil
Very cool impressive. I'd love those in my kit
Yo, the Bata is real in one of these men.

Wipes off with water? As a carpenter, I would Not want that.
I'm so late on these. 😂🤣😂 you guys really sucked back in the day. But as always... yous were still awesome at it!!!
Kinda stupid reviews, these are not professionals
That's pretty cool.
That's pretty slick but I am always losing pencils.
Innovative guess for USA it is we have been using thick mechanical pencils for 50 years now in communist Czechoslovakia
Dudes, lol, it would be illegal if it contained lead. Here's the spec on the inserts:
"Wax, inorganic and organic pigments, filler, tensides
Composite and percentage share varies each color"
Thats why we love the TIA crew! Great info

what about glass??
no
After being told to shut up, I would have asked if it worked on Bandages :)
Did it write on glass?
no Brian, there was an annotation in the video that said it didn't write on glass...
TheBearuk1
Thanks I guess I missed that first time round.
no problem bro, its easy to miss things in Dan and Eric's videos as you're usually busy laughing at their antics...lol
Yeah 12 bucks for a marker is a bit much.
lol...you two arguing....never mind Friday Night Tool Fight,....get a cage and have a Friday Night Dan and Eric Fight....in inflatable Sumo suits!!!
HA! i love that idea
Innovative or gimmicky? I'll stick with my old reliable rectangular pencil. For how often I lose them, the rectangular pencil is the more sensible decision.
U look like you're from Elgin or Crystal lake
I've got 3 at £9.50 $12
Where did you get them from, so cheap? I know you made your comment 4 yrs ago. But I can get one for £10
