This blue thing is getting my attention for sure! The drift alone brings so much to sound production. Interest kit for sure. As always, have bad eyes, the tiny screens kill me! Us 50 somethings aren't going anywhere and we have the funds to buy all this stuff. Perhaps, synth makers should keep that in mind, LOL.
I'm 52 and I feel ya. Thankfully, the MODALapp makes programming so much easier than using the oled screen.
@@christophermcdonald6471 I keep hoping companies will add hdmi out so we can add whatever size screen we want. Think this is bad, try a korg wavestation. Endless menu dives on a tiny screen. More like 1980s tech in 2022 synths.

@@sK3LeTvM1 LOLZ. I'm 51, and already can't see sh*T. These tiny screens! Who actually enjoys being bound to tiny menu diving??? It's not suppose to be a freak'n puzzle. It's suppose to be intuitive and enjoyable. There's a tool for every tool I suppose! LOLZ.
@@Curious_Skeptic I use the Modal app on my laptop. The laptop has an hdmi port so I connect the laptop to my flatscreen, and voila! I don't even need my reading glasses.

Really love my Cobalt8 like I love my Argon8 - sounds massive - pick a decade and it will do its synth sounds justice but carves out its own niche too 👍
this update was killer - the new filters and drive settings made it go from a decent analog approximation that does other very cool stuff with an amazing keyboard, to a machine that I can use almost all the time for almost anything!

This thing is giving me vibes of waking up at 3am on the couch, and seeing some random 80's movie you've somehow never heard of, and the acting is so bad, but the soundtrack is just lush with the best synth sounds.

I start to like this synth more and more. I own an OB-6 but i'm actually thinking about selling it. The OB-6 is my favourite synth and i'll probably buy it again in a few years. But the Cobalt seems to be able to do ALOT at 25% of the price of an OB-6. Yes it's not analog, but does it matter when it sounds good? I have to cut away the fat low end anyway in a mix with the OB-6. Oh yeah the 5 octave keyboard is also something i really like. It often feels like it's missing on the OB-6. I wonder if anyone else have been in this position and would like to know what their experience is with the Cobalt.

AFAIK, FM synthesis has been done almost entirely in the digital domain (unless you mean Buchla), but I second the idea nonetheless.

Sorry to go against the grain and thanks for the new factory set but this is such a powerful machine yet IMO a lot of the presets suck, really boring, middle of the road and not many usable ones. Modal need to get some guys in that can program decent sounds and really showcase the Cobalt
Unison was previously unusable because of the synced oscillators - now it‘s a powerful tool! The only thing missing for me is new envelopes. I‘m really not a fan of the current ones. They really lack the punch / bite real analog synths have. If they fix this, it will become an invaluable tool for me in the studio.
In recent firmware its possible to change the enevlopes behaviour to me more snappy, and other variations too
Will it overwrite my previous factory sounds? Are those improvements ona similar sounds, or are they all different - i.e. if I had a performance set with a specific factory patch, what wll happen now when I select this patch in a new factory library? Will it sound similar but improved, or are those patches completely different in terms of program change? What about all the extra sounds I added to empty slots, will they be overwritten too? What's the best path to integrate it with previous factory library + my custom and other imported patches? Thanks.
I am confused. when I update to 2.0 new firmware does it update the patches to Library Vol 2? if not the how do I install these without overwriting patches that already exist? I have just bought a Cobalt M and am about to do the firmware update I have only the original sounds none of my own yet and want to do this the simplest way that doesn't mess things up. I don't want to update and make my own sounds yet till I know this important information... thank you

I’ve just ordered it whilst watching this video. Any advice on what I need to hook this up to an iPad for the app? I’m also blind like some other commenters

Can anyone explain to me what the Cobalt can do that the Argon can't already do (and more)? Especially the latest Argon update seems to make it capable of all these VA sounds and all it could already do well. I'm probably missing something here..
The cobalt has an extra LFO and more ability to modify the waveforms with those LFOs. So while you are limited in wave shapes you can do more with them. It is different to the argon.

@@MajorOSC based on the majority of their presets , you mean? Your descriptions both make me think of my Argon 8, along with it being one of the best symths I've heard for soundscapes/ambient music as well.
@@OMG_so_Nerdy No it's not about presets it was merely a bit of general characterization based on amusing genres and aesthetics. The best way to discover the big differences would be to go try one yourself, or watch more videos of people going into depth with some of the crazier algorithms. There's tons you can do with a cobalt8 that you can't otherwise do on an argon8, and the same applies the other direction as well. I suppose you're really just trying to figure out whether the cobalt8 offers enough uniqueness in it's sound to be of any relevance to you. That'll be best decided by just buying one. Send it back if it doesn't work out. There's a sort of versus battle between the two on my page you can check out if interested.
