    Crazy, I just finished my TTC 450 mods a week ago and love the newfound rigidity and accuracy. However, I mostly care about aluminum and carbon fiber. I didn't use linear rails on the Y axis yet, but still may. I'm waiting to see if it is worthwhile.
    With a 1.5KW spindle and linear rails, the machine definitely gets substantially better. I measured 1/10th of the deflection the original had with about 1KG force.
    Happy milling!

    • @SoaringExperience
      @SoaringExperience 8 месяцев назад

      Interesting. Why is the 1,5kw spindle better? Is it just power and rpm? Or is stiffer and maybe not that noisy?
      What else do you need for it? Is there a link or a kind of "shopping list" in a facebookgroup or similar?

    • @mikejackson9585
      @mikejackson9585 8 месяцев назад

      @SoaringExperience it's not necessary, but it's a HUGE improvement. It does everything you mentioned, but don't think of it as "needed". A trim router works great. My spindle and VFD was just an $300 Amazon kit. It's so much nicer to work with on just the noise and speeds alone. Since it's not a machine I'd run unattended for more than a few minutes, so I went with an air cooled spindle. Water cooling would be overkill for my application.

      Thanks for the long answer (i Like that :) ).
      What do you mean by "It's so much nicer to work with on just the noise and speeds alone" Sorry I am not an english native speaker :)

      @SoaringExperience Sorry, I could have worded that better. But what I meant was, it's much much smoother running and quieter. That alone might be worth the extra $200, but it also has very accurate speed control and, in some cases, higher maximum speeds. So those two aspects alone are worth it for me. But it also has much more torque, which seems to bail me out when I get a little too aggressive with feeds and speeds. Lots of positives, but honestly they are all luxuries. My $50 trim router cut aluminum and brass almost as well, but had a little more runout and a lot more noise. Also, the speeds were a guesstimation on the trim router, whereas the spindle has accurate speed control.

    First of all, big praise for the many great clips that really helped me get started with the CNC hobby and mod my TTC450 too.
    I'm also thinking about getting a 1.5 kW China spindle air-cooled Er20. However, there is one and the same spindle with a so-called aviation plug or with a juction box. The latter version is almost €50 more expensive. What would be recommended or better?

    • @VAZHURERACING

    Hi Andrey; as someone said, impressive mod and results! Congratulations and thanks for sharing details!
    I have noticed you have made several iterations of improvements. Considering original TTC450 as 100%, can you make a rough estimation of improvement in rigidity / working capability after each change? I don't expect precision but rather your impression after each change; better - how much better?
    On another point; I have noticed the lead screws do not have a fixed point in frame - axially I mean. They are floating both in frame's ball bearing and in motor bearings where they seem to have rotor wave washer pre-tensioning. This gives kind of 0.3 movement back and forth, so a noticeable play (backlash) when thinking of machining aluminium. How have you dealt with it?

      Relief can be created in ArtCam or Vectric Aspire. I use old version of ArtCAM 2018.. Initially I create vectors from picture (I use AI sites to generate image, for example "fox wooden pendant"), then extrude surface. Toolpath also can be created in ArtCAM/Vectric. do you got a thingiverse page with the 3d printable parts u used?
    or do you share them somewhere else maybe?
    have the same linear rails coming in a few days but still figuring out how to connect the z slide carriage to the x axis rod ....
    and saw you used a printed part for that! would love to view the file so i may remix it to fit the original carriage.

    • @VAZHURERACING
      @VAZHURERACING  9 месяцев назад +1

      I used services to generate images using AI (Stable Diffusion XL). In the request, I asked to generate a pendant in desired style in grayscale heightmap. Then I traced the contours in a vector editor or used the image directly (pixel brightness = height). And AI is very productive in this regard, he can easily replace a jewelry designer, or just make his work easier. Programs like ArtCam (Vectric, etc.) allow you to create an operation for 3D relief and other operations and generate G-code for a CNC.
