@@iconicreactions3917 Yeh forsure. It had so much potential with it having 4 different people from the bat family to play as but ehh. Everything doesn’t always work out
@@Aj-B44 they didn't even need to do much. The last Batman game already had other playable characters, all they needed to do is just make a new map, add the other characters and keep things the same with a different story. Or go the kingdom hearts birth by sleep route, where you do kind of the same story, however they're all from the point of view of all the characters. Just make it that the end boss be different for each one and after you finish everyone's story, unlock the true ending where you get to pick who ends the last chapter.
I am worried about the liveliness of NPCs in the game. In the walkthrough, Hogwarts seemed really lifeless and it just seemed like everyone was just standing around doing nothing.
I share the feeling. Like yeah game looks awesome and I would love to play it, but lifeless npcs are a big no to me. That’s why I dropped acnh. In a game like Hogwarts Legacy those characters shouldn’t be so empty.
Eh, idk if i ever pay attention to npcs that much. Still felt more lively then skyrim or other open world sandbox rpgs. The game is still offering so much customization and huge map and so much more
It’s also important to note when talking about the developer is that their team has probably changed massively since their last release, while the studio may not have a huge AAA history, many new employees very well could.
This. I remember right after the 2018 leak, the game’s reddit page was littered with screenshots of job listings for Avalanche looking for programmers/engineers with experiences in AAA games or open world games.
That's not relevant if we're looking at the studio and their previous releases unless we have evidence of who they've hired and their previous history. Just saying they've "probably hired more experienced people" is the same as just hoping the game is good
Yes I have been saying this as well all companies do this they hire people for what they want to accomplish like experienced open world creators who could very well have worked on some awesome games
I'd like to touch on a more positive note too. The showcases are very telling. A lot of companies do short showcases selectively on the most refined areas of the game at that point but the almost 2 hours of gameplay showcase we've seen would indicate they're not afraid of players seeing the game run for long periods of time. Cyberpunk was a good example of that. They were very limited and selective with their showcases.
haha that bit of cp was easily the most thought out quest in the game and absolutely not indicative for the rest the stuff, as if they especially designed it for the promos
I'd argue cyber punk showed just as much "gameplay" as this, funnily enough, it didn't occur to me until I read your comment, and it's a very good point.
yeah the sub for the game is rife with this. people are already saying it is 100 percent going to be the greatest game of all time and that they hope it has every tiny thing they can think of in it. i have a feeling even if it is just ok at best a lot of people are going to be insanely let down because of how high theyre hyping it up

Everyone should do the only sensible thing: 1. Do not preorder. It's a digital product. 2. Wait for reviews from your favorite outlet, be it on RUclips or some other site. 3. Watch some gameplay footage. 4. Decide if you HAVE to have it now or can wait for a discount.
I’ve never seen the Harry Potter movies, but after they showed off the gameplay I have been binge’ing all of the movies these past few days. Gotta say, I’m trying to temper my expectations, but the excitement for this game is definitely there
@Khair T the movies don't suck, considering the technology available to them at that time. Obviously books go into more depth but that doesn't take away the magic the films convey. What sucks is people acting so binary like one form of media is king, dude. Smh
I didn't know your channel until youtube recommended this video, but it's safe to say this is one of the best gaming-related videos I've seen in the last few months. The part where you mention the 'responsibility' of youtubers and influencers specially got to me, because it's something we don't usually see in this 'industry'. Congrats on the video, it's got me thinking a lot about my hype regarding Hogwarts legacy, and congrats on the ethical take on your role as an youtuber/influencer.
I just discovered him too and i like his style and he seems very genuine as a person and cares about the content. I hope you'll enjoy much of his content too!
Since he is making good money with his videos his biggest concern is probably not being ethical but having a lot of clicks and often „sceptical look“ sells better than „this will be the best game ever“
they said that the dark arts arena is just one of a few arenas that are going to be available in the game, so paying only gets you a reskinned arena and an early peak at some spells which everyone is going to get anyways
@@GradietPanda12345 But then what is the horrible thing that we aren't being told. There has to be something this game looks to good to be true which means there must be something awful.
@@ehtlamzone2525 So true. Unfortunately, they always hide the bad stuff in the rest of the game. Just Imagine how much people already dislike published infos, what about all the stuff we don't even know.
The HW website makes two claims in the Q&A section in regards to micro transactions and monetization. Q: Are there micro-transactions in Hogwarts Legacy? A: There are no micro-transactions in Hogwarts Legacy. -and- Q: Can players make in-game purchases in Hogwarts Legacy? A: Players with the Hogwarts Legacy Standard Edition can purchase the Dark Arts Pack in-game separately, which is otherwise available exclusively in the Deluxe Edition. There are no other items for purchase in the game. So unless the devs are just completely lying (which devs do, I’m not saying they don’t) I’m not worried about it being an overly monetized mess. As well as that, the Dark Arts Arena does seem to just be a cosmetic add on. There are already two other arenas in the game.
The arena is for practicing all dark arts spells as a trial to see what you would like to use. It's not just cosmetic but it is pretty minor imo. Each arena is for a spell set is my guess with an outfit reward for completing each
I doubt they are lying. They might get away with it in the US, but the EU is very skeptical about lootboxes and ingame purchases as it is. They also have very strong consumer protection laws. If WB added in microtransactions, especially AFTER launch, they would likely be hit with 8 figure fines, forced to refund all copies and be banned from selling games in the EU for a period of time. Even if the US, while the government wouldnt do anything, there would probably be a lawsuit.
@@blackfalcon1324 Also their recent release of gotham knights seems to show that the game was made with MTX in mind, but it was stripped out for some reason. I think WB might be moving away from that. Shadow of War also removed all MTX after the backlash they got.

This is why I follow this channel! Not only for the super in depth reviews but because you care about your words and your impact on consumers with those words! I'm not the hugest Harry Potter fan but I do like the franchise and was interested in this game. Honestly the only fear for me is the stability on PC at launch, otherwise the game does already look pretty good from the showcases. Just being able to walk around in hogwarts with your own character is enough for me, everything else comes as extra.
The fact this game demands more than Cyberpunk is definitely a worrysome aspect to the performance. If i can run Cyberpunk on 60 fps then why cant i run this one on 60fps not even on lowest settings, a game which looks worse
That's my main worry as well. The more I see from the game the more interested I am (very rare these days), but if it runs like shit on release then it'll be a no go for a long time.
I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I got so excited when I watched the gameplay showcase and saw references from the exclusively from the books like Peeves and the house points gem counters. I have no doubt the developers tried to include lots of easter eggs and details for the super fans like me. What I'm terrified of is it being released with a million glitches and the world being much smaller and underwhelming than they make it seem. I really don't think we'll get a Breath of the Wild level open world.
i was in the superminority that played through cyberpunk with nothing more than few crashes, loved every aspect of it, and then went on the internet a week later to see people freaking out. It has recently found belated love, but how you experience something can be very different when you aren't influenced by the mob.
Everything I’ve seen from this game has filled me with nothing but sheer confidence and excitement, which is enough reason for me to be worried about it. No game today is that perfect especially upon launch. Something’s not right…
Not everything was good tbh, there was not a single bit about the storyline or any hint at all The voice acting was lackluster and sleep inducing with bad quality sound (the sound wasn't crisp enough, which, again, maybe cause it was a showcase video but still) The facial animations were weak and monotonous and not like anything I imagined World looked dead/half dead... NPCs were quiet, like robots doing chores with the same animation repeating over and over again These are some of my critiques
@@luciferfromhell6704 completely agree. Would also like to add the whole Room of Requirement to this. I can totally imagine them monetising a bunch of cosmetic items and time boosters.
@@luciferfromhell6704 Agreed. I'm mostly worried about the NPCs, the story, and especially how the player's choices will affect the story. It's not enough to have an open world if it's not developed, either. I'd except at least the level of Witcher 3 for it to be good enough.
@@maciel155gamer cosmetic items monetising is not even that bad imo, I care about the actual gameplay (I know many people care bout it, but not me) About the time boosters and all, they have already said there won't be any of these types of things in the game (including microtransactions)... To be fair, from what the devs told us, it looks like the dark arts BA is just an additional BA, where you can fool around with unforgivable curses even if you have not pursued the 'dark path' in your playthrough. They did say there are other battle arenas in which you can test and preload spells and combos. DABA also comes with a unique cosmetic item.
i've been telling people this too, i think most heard 'battle arena in the pack' and didn't quite the 'we have 2 more in the base game' honestly, I won't be getting the pack, it doesn't interest me, the rest of the game does.
He is worried about the slippery slope or what cutting out content means, not that the BA itself would have been a good addition to the base game. If you cut content out blatlantly like that, then you can wonder: "will we get the full game on release or will they make us spend for DLCs for the actual end of the game" That fear is legit. Valhalla or DA:I did just that. You were literally not getting a full game at the start. Slippery slope is also that people initially just dismissed the Horse Armor in oblivion, but now people like you excuse the game for a much bigger feature. 10 years from now you will excuse some bigger shitty behaviour from these companies. Many people have started accepting bad predatory tactics from games, which would have been bashed to hell years ago.
Ever since playing the Philosopher Stone and Chamber of Secrets on PC when I was a kid, I have been yearning for a fully open world Harry Potter game so I really hope this game sticks the landing

coming from someone who has kids, and has played the past Avalanche games I'm personally not to worried. Yes although it was things like Toy Story 3, Cars 3, Disney infinity, I've played them and by looking at the names you can easily brush it off as licensed shovelware but legit just Toy Story 3's toy box mode which is a open sandbox mode is great. Its very well structured and has that normal level of NPC interaction you'd want , most important of all though is that the quests or random activities you do actually feed back into the world and town building your doing, its not just busy fluff like a lot of games throw at you. And that was fucking Toy Story... same story goes for Cars and although I didn't play too much of Disney Infinity with the kids it was pretty legit too. there are no doubt areas of concern and of course be level headed dont over hype anything, but others looking at the dev past don't judge a book by its cover Rocksteady was also a licensed shovelware studio before Arkham.
Surprised this is the first comment I've seen breaking down their previous track record. Saw a lot of people saying their previous games were a reason to be worried, but seemingly by the names alone. Glad to see someone who has actually played these games.
you can count me among the people who were skeptical about their track record, but I wasn't aware that Toy Story 3 was an open world game either so that's comforting to hear
@this Bubbly Goodness for sure and you should be skeptical with any dev in my mind, Toy Story had two modes there was traditional level based "story mode" then the toy box mode which is the open world, townbuilding sandbox. I think Mr Matty Plays had a recent review on one of his channels ill check. But I'm not saying this game will be "true next gen open world groundbreaking title!" Rather I think it will be much better than people expected and they will be surprised. @@DoublexCoke 100% agreed, dude. no way this game is going to revolutionize gaming, im hoping this game is at least 7/10, being a fun and engaging game but obviously still has some kinks to work out, realistically. if Hogwarts Legacy can create an open world that's at least 'ubisoft level' of quality, i'll be happy.
Well on the Dark Arts Battle Arena they specifically said it was just an area made for players to test pre-loaded spells without actually developing them in the «main» game. So like, for those who are role-playing as a good-two shoes, but want to see how say, Avada Kedavra works without ruining their. It’s a non-essential part of the game, basically a tutorial to have destructive fun in without affecting the storyline and roleplay.
Haha so then why make it so you need to pay more, it's ridiculous and if you remember when we used to buy a game and it had everything in it, not any more they will definitely have a bunch if stuff that they leave out just so they can sell it to people later on and it's wrong. The goal for devs in the past was to make a good game and that's how they make money, well now their goal is to make a base/framework/platform of a game and sell us the rest, that's how they make money now not by making good quality products while also using every psychological trick to get us addicted. It's just sad and I'm just grateful for the handful of devs who try to make a good game and of course the indie devs they are great
Yall need to do more research instead of talking like this. The devs said there will be TWO battle arenas already preloaded in the game, where u can test all that shit out. The DABA is just a special skin for the deluxe buyers
@@supereinstien001 and there it is the mentality that the gaming industry executives have been working so hard to promote is taking root and you are a prime example. I personally don't want that 1 particular arena but it's the principle behind it that fundamentally disagree with. When a game is released their shouldn't be a bunch of different versions of that game, the companies goal should be to make the best game they can make and set a price for that game, not take a finished product then cut bits and pieces of it and then call it the "basic", "premium", "deluxe" or "gold" because the parts that they take away from the game are just that parts that are taken away it's not parts that are given to make better versions. I don't understand how people can not see this, there is no real deluxe version there is the game with all it content available at release and then they take away parts of it to make people feel like they are getting a superior version but that's the case it just manipulation and people who defend it have simply been slowly and methodically brainwashed in to thinking that it's OK. I would assume it is mostly the younger people who never really knew what it was like before, back when you bought a game that was it the whole game was on the disc. I just hate how the executives have ruined so much of the industry that I have loved for over 30yrs
@daniel calabrese i am 100% on your side brotha. I remember when devs/publishers first started doing this and there was an outcry from the gaming community, but they kept pushing it. And now newer generations don't know any better. It's not extra content if it's already in the game but simply locked behind a paywall. That's simply wrong. I miss the days where all the content was in the game but to access it you had to actually play the game. Instead of busting out another sum of money arbitrarily. It's wrong and it's part of why this industry is so broken today.
After months of watching your content, I've come to find that your channel is very centered around levelheadedness and true skepticism rather than just out right cynicism. I enjoy this quite a bit, because despite being able to tell when you're a tad biased towards or against a game (i.e. AC Odyssey), you admit to that bias and don't use it in favor of or against the game you're talking about. I think that your channel is a valuable resource to people who want guidance on what games to purchase but also want to make the decision on their own rather than blindly following some youtuber who is either obviously shilling a game or bashing it without any room for them to form an opinion.
The problem for me about this is that I don't entirely agree with it as I watched his Horizon: Forbidden West video where a large part of the beginning he was very nitpicky about some stuff in the game.
No he still showcases a moderate level of cynicism. Not even halfway in the video he references Shadow of War as something that shouldn't be discussed at all *still* because of its bad monetization. The problem is this awful monetization *was entirely removed at least like 4 or more years ago*.
@@ImGonnaFudgeThatFish Yea and even then I feel people made way to big of a deal when it was still implemented, in my opinion. deffintely good to go into this with an open mind and i agree with all your cautions and red flags.... the one im most concerned about is the actual narrative though and how the goblins are going to be portrayed. what we've heard so far doesnt sit well so im waiting for early reviews or full plot summaries to see if its going to be as bad as we think
I wouldn't be surprised if Avalanche was well aware of the controversy surrounding the goblins in this game so I'm just hoping that the goblin rebellion is just your average ruse in a mystery-driven narrative. If not, the writers are going to look VERY silly.
Yeah, was hoping the video would touch on this, but it's also my biggest worry. An evil race (especially with all the links to Jewish caricatures) is really something that would turn me off of this game narratively.
@@JonathanHuyghe yeah same here. i mean im trans/non-binary so me being excited/wanting to at least try the game is already problematic to some/most/ people so i do REALLY hope there's some sort of twist to not make it "oppressed minority is evil for wanting freedom" i think what they could do is make the main goblin bad guy (i forgot his name) leader of a more extreme sect and we'll meet another group of goblins who want a peaceful approach and we, along with this peaceful group, convince the more extreme group to renounce their violent approach and get them their right to wands and magic in a peaceful way while stopping the Dark Wizard. id be happy with that, but again we gotta wait till it comes out to know for sure.
@@VelvetCake423 That is a very weird take. They already made an attempt to distance themselves from JK by allowing creating trans character. @@ryanhopkins5239 Oh I know, I just made an example of another game that was totally frustratingly broken on release, but very cool after some significant changes. Could have done better with the tenses to convey the meaning, not a native speaker :)
I've learned I'm easily amused when it comes to an IP I love. I remember growing up playing crappy Harry Potter games (Still enjoying them), just wishing for a game like Hogwarts Legacy, where you could experience school life through your own character. Granted, I'd much prefer a Year 1-7 story, but I realize that's probably unrealistic without having cut corners. I think unless the game is flat out broken, with nothing interesting, I'll probably love it. But, Pokemon releases taught me sometimes you can be truly let down by that IP. *Side note* Bloody hell, your office set up is pretty sick.
Here's where I stand with this game. I'm 25 years old, I've been gaming since before I can remember. And also growing up a Harry Potter fan, I was also a fan of HP games growing up. This game is probably one of, if not the oldest gaming dream I have: an open world hogwarts where you create your character, go into your own house, etc. This is the reason I'm pre-ordering the deluxe edition of the game, something I do VERY rarely (haven't done it in many years in fact). Being a gamer for all my life, and having being disapointed many times in the past, I also know the problem with hyped games. Honestly, I think the gaming community in general is WAY too easily swayed. I've seen people with such stupidly high expectations about this game, that I think they're doomed to be disapointed. There's a youtuber that makes alot of videos about this game, and he was talking about a full on quidditch mod for this game IN THE FIRST WEEK. These are his ridiculous expectations not even about the game itself, but the modding tools that will be available and what's even possible to make in a week. If there's any mods in the first week, it'll probably nothing more than trainers. I'm not going to lie about myself about this game, I'm not expecting a perfect game, and I'm expecting at least some bugginess and wonkyness. The monetization also worries me, it's literally a fucking cancer of the gaming industry. At the same time, while over monetization is a problem with alot of games, it straight up ruining games is also quite rare, they're often easy to ignore enough to enjoy the game. My other minor worry is, like others have said, the NPCs, which looked quite meh in the first showcase (but like I've seen many point out actually looked improved on the 2nd). In the end, this game has been in the oven for a quite long time, and seem to have a very passionate and dedicated team which is encouraging, as long as they manage to have good support after release and update the bugs in a relatively fast manner I think the game will be ok.
I just want to preface that they did say there are two other battle areas in the base game that everyone has access to, presumably that will be the same as the dark arts one but without the ability to use the evil ancient spells. But you can get those spells if you go down that path in the base game and use those in the base battle areas. So effectively to me, it is not a big feature to miss out on.

Asobo - Plague Tale's developers were the latest to shed off the "shovelware" sticker and it turned out more than well. Hopefully it happens with Hogwarts Legacy too, but ye being skeptical about it should be a no brainer.
Something that has me worried is the music. There doesn’t seem to be any licensed music from the films, which there should be because there is some absolutely fantastic music for both combat and ambient exploration background music from the movies. If the Lego games can license the music, so should this game. Also, the music that we have heard is magical sounding, but also rather generic and lacks any strong melodies. I have a feeling the music will disappoint, hoping to be proven wrong in a month.

I'd love to hear your take on the Playstation exclusive quest with additional dungeon, cosmetics, and access to its in-game shop where you can sell items and gear at better rates. The exclusive content supposedly gets released to other platforms a year after release.

The developers seem to have genuinely put love and passion into this game. That is what usually sets a cash grab from an actual work of art. I truly believe the game is going to be amazing and it's going to blow expectations away. I hope this ages we'll, I could be wrong... this is just what I truly believe is gonna happen.
Passion ultimately means very little. Sean Murray was more passionate about NMS than I have ever seen any dev and it was a steaming pile of manure on release. It has been worked on since and become somewhat decent but it took a long time to get there. Peter Molyneux was passionate about every game he ever made, so much that he was memed for it endlessly. His promise were almost never met. Chris Roberts is hella passionate about Star Citizen. It hasn't even released. Passion often gets in the way of development rather than helping it. I feel like it's been miss-understood how the deluxe edition dark arts battle arena is portrayed. The arena is only available to deluxe edition users, but there are two other arenas in the game, that can be used as the base game. This means base game players can use the arena functionality. They just won't experience the dark aesthetic. I also think it's not uncommon for deluxe editions to feature extra missions or like-wise. Good video. Let's see how the game turns out.
@@tanzolo4487 but its just a skin for the flying mount which once again, everyone can access a flying mount. I think people are overreacting. I can however see how major harry potter fans could be upset about missing a skin that's so well known in the universe
@@nick1635 You're not wrong. I'm also not justifying that having an arena locked off is okay, I'm just stating that I think the video explained what is actually happening in a poor way in the failure of mentioning the other two free arenas. In an ideal world a game would just launch and everyone could access everything in the game. Paid DLC later is perfectly fine 3,4,5 months down the line in my opinion.
*_Few things you got a bit wrong_* - comment by a Senior Gamedev - Gotham Knights was just published by Warner Bros, it was developed by an entirely different game dev studio, namely WB Games Montreal (as you mentioned). The publisher just gives money and says "put in more monetisation", "finish it faster" and so on, they aren't actively involved in development. So as long as the publisher doesn't have questionable standards throughout their portfolio *_cough_* EA *_cough_* there is nothing to worry about some misses - Since the developer for Gotham Knights was a different one, it is out of the question that they are using the same tech (except if they both go for Unreal Engine, in which case there's nothing to worry about from a tech side). Even with development studios under the same roof it is very uncommon to use the same tools and engines, wit ha few exceptions where publishing is forcing it without any understanding of the consequences *_cough_* EA *_cough_* - With a studio like Avalanche Software, that has had rather humble releases in the past it is not uncommon to either *A.* also do plenty of outsourcing work for big projects (where studios often don't get credited), thus have lots of experience with AAA development or *B.* be re-used and restructured by the publisher rather than founding a new studio, with an entirely different, scaled-up team, plenty of veteran and fresh new hires - The argument with Day's Gone is legit, however problems with stability and bugs are (if the game itself is solid and most things work as expected) never an issue of incompetence from the developers' side, but rather an issue of time pressure from the publisher's side
I'll look forward to your candid review once the game is out, I was not planning on a pre-purchase anyway and am patiently waiting to get a second hand copy. Loved your insights and points.
I really appreciate your thoughtful analysis. For me it’s seeing the castle, and what else has been shown so far, that makes me excited. Personally I’ve really loved the community and that’s the best part- the friends I’ve made and the excitement we all share has been beautiful. So grateful for all of the RUclipsrs who have created space for us to come together. I’m very hyped for it, but can also be critical of the game pre and post release. I think the collectors is b.s. and unacceptable- most likely W.B. not avalanche tho. The money grabbing is really painful, and it does create a separation. If only from last gen and new gen consoles. Then you add the delux edition extras. It’s just sad all around that our full and rich community has been divided to some level. I personally will stay hyped until the game is out. I love the universe and think that this will be an amazing addition to that universe.
The collector's edition is as good as any collector's edition they're all rubbish but some people like to collect those things. I've never seen a collector's version of any game that contained anything that was actually useful and came into use in day-to-day life it's all just crap that sits on a shelf and collects dust.
Ever since the cyberpunk and to a somewhat equal extent NMS (pre redemption arc) I’ve been worried about games that are so ambitious because it rarely pans out
People think they're going to be able to use those unforgivable curses on students in the school in free roam. I highly doubt we will be able to do that.
Gladly the dark arts battle arena is 1 of 3 arenas and the other two are in the base game. i believe it's purely cosmetic but who knows you might not be able to use the unforgivable curses in the base arenas but that is yet to be seen
TBH i'm excited. It's like my childhood dream coming true. Well, my dreams were crazy, it's not possible to have an entire Hogwart's education in a single game, but it's the next best thing. Honestly, I think I'm positive enough to enjoy it even if it's just a 6/10 game for a non-fan.
I will repeat it every time: I do NOT care how good the game looks, how trusted the developer is, how many early reviews sing it’s praises, DO NOT PREORDER ANY GAME. Preordering games has caused so much bullshit, *DO NOT PREORDER GAMES*
It's 10.00 more for the deluxe edition. If you consider ten bucks the separator between rich and poor you are in a very sad place. If it was hundreds of dollars more to play in an extra unnecessary area then that might be concerning.
damn I am so worried about the game now. but I think this video is great and needed. I really appreciate the skeptic look bringing in realistic expectations
I understand the skepticism! But thankfully the devs has confirmed NO microtransactions. I understand the concern for the deluxe edition, but to me that’s not very far fetched. Plenty of great games had deluxe editions that came with special missions and etc. Thankfully, the dark arts arena isn’t the only arena in the game. They confirmed there are a total of 3 arenas in the game.
Not all monetization schemes involve microtranactions, maybe there's no in game store with its own currency, but a bunch of cosmetics and extras behind an extra payment in the Steam/Xbox/PS Stores
We cannot trust this industry when it comes to microtransactions - many companies have straight up lied to us about what microtransactions are included with their games. This is an actively dishonest industry and we should treat it accordingly.
"Plenty of great games had deluxe editions that came with special missions and etc" Yes, that's the problem smh. Why do you say that like it justifies it?
@@Stanger5441 do you think DLC’s are also a problem? Think of a deluxe edition as buying a base game with added DLC. It’s optional. It won’t make or break your experience. Just adds a few extras. You can also purchase the standard edition of Hogwarts Legacy and buy the deluxe edition contents later on if you so choose, EXACTLY like DLC. Now preordering is a whole different story.
@@logandumont First of all, we don't know for sure that we'll be able to purchase this content later. We probably will but we don't know for sure. This isn't what most consider DLC. This content is already made and ready to go. It's not "added" DLC - it's already completed content that was deliberately cut out to pad the margins by selling it for extra money to suckers. It's a scummy practice and there's no need for you to excuse it. You get nothing for doing so, so..why are you doing it?
At 21:47 in the video as you were saying about keeping the spectations controlled, I just noticed that the gameplay that was being shown already had a visual bug with the NPC right before he goes down the stairs LOL
Love the outrage at the people desperately trying to boycott this game. They have no idea how good JK's contract is, she gets paid before and after anything HP gets made and sold, she's getting bonuses forever because of the theme park rides at Universal Studios. I went there before the pandemic and that location is always packed
I also really hope it becomes good I’m glad I watched this your amazing. Im glad we can be friends your also very smart love ya man. This helped a lot ❤🥺
I'm looking forward to this. I actually preordered the special edition. I am 99% sure it's going to be a ubisoft/horizon tier carbon copy collectathon. I don't think I'll love it, but I think I'll like it enough to justify the purchase. I really don't like games like horizon, the new assassins games, etc. but the gameplay is decent enough that I would play them enough to finish them if I enjoyed the backdrop. An open world rpg in the Harry Potter universe is probably the second most requested one after LOTR which has had a few mediocre or niche implementations of it.
As for a company with experience in lower budget games getting a contract for a high budget one, look at Peter Jackson, the director of bad taste getting the Lord of the rings trilogy. They just hire a bunch more top level people and go to work, Lord of the rings came out pretty well. Companies are like football teams, the name of the sign stays the same but the players are always changing. The developers are usually bound by a contract to make a certain type of game in a certain way with certain gameplay elements. Cars was a racing game with cartoonish cars because that's what they were contacted to create and did it very well. Frontier made kinectimals to show off the Kinect technology and then made elite dangerous which a lot of people loved. I found it boring but it was well reviewed at the time.
my *biggest problem* with the game is the dark arts DLC that has so much utility behind a pay wall. Something that large should not be a DLC because it forces gamers to literally have to purchase the DLC
Great Review mate. Its important to take a look at the developers past but its true though, that they can change and make things right. Its less likely but it can be done. Certainly hope they do things right even if that means delaying the game. Thank you again for your good work. Cheers pal
Could turn out to be a positive that this is the developers first big game and they have something to prove. Also if you look at the list of games they have worked on there's an outstanding 6 year gap between when they presumably started work on HL and now.
I'm also skeptical because it seems to good to be true. Definitely don't believe we'll have a playable Switch version even with the delay to July, but if what they've shown so far holds up without any caveats, I'll be very pleased. Been waiting for a good Harry Potter game for more than 15 years.
Just to be clear, Avalanche Software is an incredible studio that was stuck under Disney for too long. Technically and design wise, they do incredible work.
And also, with their allotted resources/budget in mind, both Toy Story 3 and Cars 3 are very competent kids games. And while Toys-to-life surely was a fad, a project like Infinity still would have required a lot of efficient pipeline and konw-how to put together
I think the combat and overall gameplay will be pretty mid tbh. However, I pre-ordered it because I think it will have good voice acting, character customization, and atmostphere. Just want to walk around and explore. That's what I mostly did in RDR2 and had fun with it.
I agree with the combat. It doesn't look engaging, it looks like hitting target dummies that don't fight back but maybe either the AI isn't finished or its got difficulty settings and its on easy. It almost looks like turn based with how infrequently they attack you.
I think if the difficulty is amped up, I want an emphasis on defensive combat. I don't want a game where i can just mash buttons and kill everything. I want a dark souls-like experience where if im just mashing buttons, I will get blown out because i didn't respect the enemy ability to dodge/block/deflect my abilities etc. If they can do that, I think it's great.
Dude, showing off the dark arts arnea was what a lot of people asked for because we wanted to know what it is so we could decide if we wanted the deluxe edition or not. They obviously didn't do it to taunt players who wouldn't buy it. And other players won't be missing out that much, its one of thee (or so) arena's, only real difference is the look of it and that you can try out the dark arts before unlocking them.
the collectors edition is indeed conserningly bad, but we don't have to worry about microtransactions, etc because they have come out and said that there will be none (exept if you count the fact that you can get the dark arts pack seperately from the base game after release. And personally, I wouldn't mind if they made a payed dlc a few months/years even after release (but that's just my personal oppinion).
@@kwintenthone6449 EA also said there would be no microtransactions in Battlefront. They lied. The game's classification has in-game purchases included so that means they can renege on their microtransaction "promise" at any time. I am not saying they 100% will but that promise isn't worth a damn. Also - won't be missing out that much? It is a third of the combat arena content that is locked out on day 1. That is a huge amount. It also makes me completely disbelieve their MTX claim. Day 1 DLC is a scummy af practice that should not be supported no matter what studio is doing it.
Your point on Shadow of War being ‘heavily monetised’ is totally un-true btw.. I played it and completed the story in 60 hours, never once considered buying anything extra.
He's just repeating the nonsense that Kotaku said back in the day. Nobody took a hundred hours to beat the game, but then again Kotaku did struggle to complete the tutorial in Cuphead so...
I am astonished this video did not mentioned this, but this people are not THE developers of games like Shadow Of War! These games get worked on by many studios all over the world, I have a friend that works in a small studio here in Portugal, he did work for The Witcher 3 remake...don't think we can call them THE developers of that remake just because of that. And as for Gotham Knights, that Wiki article says the developers were WB Games Montréal. Avalanche probably just did some art assets...
I'm worried about this game. The developers look very passionate about their work, but at the same time the game seems too good to be true. And the bad thing is that even if the game turns out to be bad, people are going to buy it the same way, 'cause it's Harry Potter world, and I think Warner knows that, so... I don't know. I have high expectations, but it's a dangerous project
You mentioned appreciating that they delayed the game which you take to mean that they're focusing on improving it before launch. People were optimistic of the same thing for CP77 which was delayed, at least, like 3 times.
I'm going into this video knowing I'm going to hate hearing the things that might be said but I'm here for it anyways haha. I hope this game turns out great. Super excited.
Ok you convinced me. I’ve been gaming for nearly 40 years and I’ve been an HP fan since the beginning so I was insanely hyped for this game. But you made a lot of really good points. Definitely going to get the game but I’m going to take a step back and see how things play out. I didn’t consider it was being produced by the same Studio as Gotham Knights. That’s def a little concerning.
@@Stanger5441 i read that comment wrong, i thought he/she meant avalanche Studios. 99% of other people, who mistake it, think it is avalanche Studios not avalanche Software. That are my experiences.
Even though I mostly agree with all the points you brought up, and completely agree on being sceptical, there were a few things that came to mind. First, with the Dark Arts Arena, even though I do find it annoying that you miss out on it if you don't pay extra, it's not the end of the world - I believe it's been confirmed that there will be 2 other arenas everyone will be able to try, it's just this one lets you try out the unforgivable curses. Second, I think it was already said that the game itself won't contain any microtransactions, which is a good sign, and I imagine that will hold up for the launch. Of course, that doesn't mean we shouldn't be sceptical
This seems like the first actual critical summary of what we've known so far. Haven't finished it yet Edit: to be fair, game released on one of the worst architected consoles in lifetime(PS3) as well as ports on new gens(that time) etc says something about the quality of the stuff they might deliver and skill they might have as developers(not inferior for sure). Kids games - yes, alarming. Could it be Gotham's Knights-Cyberpank level mess? I doubt it, but it's possible(as with every single title these years). I do have a feeling that some of the casual trash-tier games like Hannah Montana style games will be used for the mini games if any are present and so on. Back in the day those were the staple of the gaming(well at least not as much discarded as now), however it is evident that back-then-full-games are migrating into supporting mechanics in modern games. Edit 2: I wish you've spent more time on talking about game aspects that are known so far. Particularly, the lazy character creator that essentially strips away cosplayability(I am not asking for sims4 level creator, but having Kratos in Elden Ring says that there is a community of cosplayers). I wonder how extensible mods are going to be(mod==developers missed out). Personally, I think the world so far seems empty af(I hope I am just wrong), I doubt that The Bank and other side locations will be available at all times and instead will be just small-ish scale maps that are available through the story missions and duration of those(I know there is not much to expect here). Good summary overall, glad to see that not everybody is hyping each other up to get fcked yet again. Edit 3: Also, I doubt it was intentional(I hope it was), but I love how you are talking about youtubers' responsibility etc and having that guy from the first showcase that has done nothing but hyping up the community and heavily moderating anything critical that people are saying in his livestream chat or comment's section. You have my respect here just by mentioning something incredibly valid and putting a face(at least in my opinion) to whom it is addressed to. (I had some experience with that guy and his community right after the first showcase went live and he streamed the next day) Edit 3.1: Ok, now it seems like it was intentional. Thanks. I subbed
Thank you bro, felt like I was the only one seeing the darkness through all of the magic. It's too easy for them to use this OFFICIAL brand to inch into people's pocket. I'm extremely weary of how everyone seems to be so sold on this game from relatively little gameplay demonstration, yet with so much revealed about their monetary intentions. it's like I'm watching everyone else in a trance from what's on screen whilst I'm looking at the projector in the opposite direction.
@IxMeTutorials you took a tour throughout the castle, a little flighty flight of the grounds on a broomstick and you went to the battle arena content locked behind a pay wall, all the while having the deluxe ultra Mr krabs edition of the game pushed in your face... oh and you had some lovely lad with scripted questions asking along with childish wonder. Open your damned eyes mates. I have observed the trends in the gaming market since 2002, you saw relatively little gameplay, trust me.
@IxMeTutorials and let me add, I want nothing but the success of this game probably more than you lol, I'm not sure there is a closer brand to my heart than the world of Harry Potter, every book, every movie, every dream of visiting Orlando, every little jelly bean and treat that was actualized in real life, I want this game to be everything it's promised, I assure you.
Interesting. This christmas i logged in to Red dead online (i hate the mulitplayer) just to see the map covered in snow. I was not disappointed, but its not as good as the single player part. In fact it really sucks. So yeah probably gonna be a good tech demo of hogwarts at least, even if the gameplay is dull. I'm looking forward to creating a character and selecting a house and exploring the castle, but the story and combat dont interest me at all

Finally, people with common sense.

The HW website makes two claims in the Q&A section in regards to micro transactions and monetization.
Q: Are there micro-transactions in Hogwarts Legacy?
A: There are no micro-transactions in Hogwarts Legacy.
-and-
Q: Can players make in-game purchases in Hogwarts Legacy?
Each arena is for a spell set is my guess with an outfit reward for completing each
yeah it does seem like an oversight by Luke Stephens but we will see
I doubt they are lying.

You can literally see the game struggling already in the gameplay showcases, so we are pretty much fucked I’m sure of that

The voice acting was lackluster and sleep inducing with bad quality sound (the sound wasn't crisp enough, which, again, maybe cause it was a showcase video but still)
The facial animations were weak and monotonous and not like anything I imagined
World looked dead/half dead... NPCs were quiet, like robots doing chores with the same animation repeating over and over again
These are some of my critiques
@@luciferfromhell6704 completely agree. Would also like to add the whole Room of Requirement to this. I can totally imagine them monetising a bunch of cosmetic items and time boosters.
@@luciferfromhell6704 Agreed. I'm mostly worried about the NPCs, the story, and especially how the player's choices will affect the story. It's not enough to have an open world if it's not developed, either. I'd except at least the level of Witcher 3 for it to be good enough.
@@maciel155gamer cosmetic items monetising is not even that bad imo, I care about the actual gameplay (I know many people care bout it, but not me)
About the time boosters and all, they have already said there won't be any of these types of things in the game (including microtransactions)... Instead your talents and fertiliser (which again is a not a paid thing) will determine how much time brewing potions and growing plants would take

Thank you for saying this. He did not touch on that there are 2 other battle areas in the base game that presumably will be the same thing effectively
@@MrCaw77 They said it in showcase II but it was a very small moment, so I guess it can happen that he missed it
i've been telling people this too, i think most heard 'battle arena in the pack' and didn't quite the 'we have 2 more in the base game'
honestly, I won't be getting the pack, it doesn't interest me, the rest of the game does.
That still should be included in the base game
Ever since playing the Philosopher Stone and Chamber of Secrets on PC when I was a kid, I have been yearning for a fully open world Harry Potter game so I really hope this game sticks the landing
Same I'm also glad it's not a movie game as much as I loved the movies sometimes the movid game is not as enjoyable maybe because of the voice actors used or something
@@theoutsiderjess1869 That plus they have to try to loosely adapt the movies story and it leaves less room for creativity.
@@theoutsiderjess1869 the voice acting never really bothered me back then for those games. It was just fun and cool to walk around Hogwarts and go through parts of the books. Those games are legendary
I haven't pre-ordered a game since No Mans Sky. I watched Cyberpunk go down while I sat eating popcorn. I'm excited for Hogwarts Legacy, but I am most certainly going to wait for some initial reviews after release before I consider buying it.
I'm so glad I watched this I was totally thinking it was the devs behind Mad Max - it sorta made sense.
But man, looking at the world, full kudos to this team for nailing such an amazing looking place.
coming from someone who has kids, and has played the past Avalanche games I'm personally not to worried.
Remember there was a level of discourse on if Insomnica could actually make a Spider-Man game or not we will just have to wait till release and see, I'm hoping but level headed lol
Why does an open world toy story sound so cool. Now I wanna play it
@@DoublexCoke 100% agreed, dude. no way this game is going to revolutionize gaming, im hoping this game is at least 7/10, being a fun and engaging game but obviously still has some kinks to work out, realistically.
if Hogwarts Legacy can create an open world that's at least 'ubisoft level' of quality, i'll be happy.
@@danielcalabrese5769 The base game has two arenas already. If you want extra content, you can pay extra.
Could not have said it better myself mate!

Aside from the new Zelda coming, this is for me my most anticipated game of the year. Having grown up with the HP franchise and loving it I so desparately want this to succeed. I am obviously approaching this with caution as to not be burned however, when developers show off gameplay such as this it projects confidence in their product, they know they have something good on their hands and are happy to share it.
My fingers and toes are crossed that this does well

deffintely good to go into this with an open mind and i agree with all your cautions and red flags.... the one im most concerned about is the actual narrative though and how the goblins are going to be portrayed. what we've heard so far doesnt sit well so im waiting for early reviews or full plot summaries to see if its going to be as bad as we think
@@JonathanHuyghe yeah same here. i mean im trans/non-binary so me being excited/wanting to at least try the game is already problematic to some/most/ people so i do REALLY hope there's some sort of twist to not make it "oppressed minority is evil for wanting freedom"
i think what they could do is make the main goblin bad guy (i forgot his name) leader of a more extreme sect and we'll meet another group of goblins who want a peaceful approach and we, along with this peaceful group, convince the more extreme group to renounce their violent approach and get them their right to wands and magic in a peaceful way while stopping the Dark Wizard. id be happy with that, but again we gotta wait till it comes out to know for sure.
@@VelvetCake423 That is a very weird take. They already made an attempt to distance themselves from JK by allowing creating trans character. You can have male looking character that is treated like female (as in, called witch instead of wizard, sleeping in same quarters as the 'other girls' ect.). As for goblins, well it's a fucking rebellion and those aren't peaceful or without victims. Although they have right to desire freedom, going around killing innocent people should not be endorsed like you seem to do with that "oppressed minority is evil for wanting freedom" BS.
Idk, Marvel did this exact thing with their Inhumans show and they somehow weren’t aware of the tone deaf story, so I’m not gonna hold my breath unfortunately :/

There's two arenas in the base game that are the exact same. Only difference being you can test out spells.
But the mount!

Something that has me worried is the music. There doesn’t seem to be any licensed music from the films, which there should be because there is some absolutely fantastic music for both combat and ambient exploration background music from the movies. I feel like it's been miss-understood how the deluxe edition dark arts battle arena is portrayed. The arena is only available to deluxe edition users, but there are two other arenas in the game, that can be used as the base game. This means base game players can use the arena functionality. *_Few things you got a bit wrong_* - comment by a Senior Gamedev
- Gotham Knights was just published by Warner Bros, it was developed by an entirely different game dev studio, namely WB Games Montreal (as you mentioned). The publisher just gives money and says "put in more monetisation", "finish it faster" and so on, they aren't actively involved in development. So as long as the publisher doesn't have questionable standards throughout their portfolio *_cough_* EA *_cough_* there is nothing to worry about some misses
- Since the developer for Gotham Knights was a different one, it is out of the question that they are using the same tech (except if they both go for Unreal Engine, in which case there's nothing to worry about from a tech side). Even with development studios under the same roof it is very uncommon to use the same tools and engines, wit ha few exceptions where publishing is forcing it without any understanding of the consequences *_cough_* EA *_cough_*
- With a studio like Avalanche Software, that has had rather humble releases in the past it is not uncommon to either
*A.* also do plenty of outsourcing work for big projects (where studios often don't get credited), thus have lots of experience with AAA development
or
*B.* be re-used and restructured by the publisher rather than founding a new studio, with an entirely different, scaled-up team, plenty of veteran and fresh new hires
- The argument with Day's Gone is legit, however problems with stability and bugs are (if the game itself is solid and most things work as expected) never an issue of incompetence from the developers' side, but rather an issue of time pressure from the publisher's side
The only thing I’m truly skeptical about is the frame rate and facial animations.

I just feel like this game is gonna deliver
did you also feel like cyberpunk and no mans sky would deliver?
@@Bunster I did think cyberpunk would deliver. I mean it was being made by the legendary CD Projekt Red.... never again....
These people included the “box” as part of the collectors edition package. Pathetic.

Cheers pal
I’m looking forward to it, but not expecting much of it just hoping to have some fun in the Harry Potter universe
Could turn out to be a positive that this is the developers first big game and they have something to prove. Also if you look at the list of games they have worked on there's an outstanding 6 year gap between when they presumably started work on HL and now.
Thank you! I needed some extra analyzing! I'll wait for reviews 100%
The Community Manager of Hogwarts Legacy confirmmed that there will be NO microtransactions
Straight from their website FAQ:
Q: Are there micro-transactions in Hogwarts Legacy?
A: There are no micro-transactions in Hogwarts Legacy.
You mentioned appreciating that they delayed the game which you take to mean that they're focusing on improving it before launch. People were optimistic of the same thing for CP77 which was delayed, at least, like 3 times.
I shudder to think how much worse the bugs would have been
I'm going into this video knowing I'm going to hate hearing the things that might be said but I'm here for it anyways haha.
It is not the same Studio tho. It is the same publisher but a different team is developing it
Avalanche Studios and Avalanche Software are two different developers. Not the same, okay? I'm soooo tired to tell people that! 🙄
@@SnowDreamFlake If you're really that tired, why did you do it when nobody even mentioned Avalanche Studios? lol
I can't understand why people before a big game release are so sceptical and all that .....just enjoy the game and have fun
This seems like the first actual critical summary of what we've known so far. Haven't finished it yet
Edit: to be fair, game released on one of the worst architected consoles in lifetime(PS3) as well as ports on new gens(that time) etc says something about the quality of the stuff they might deliver and skill they might have as developers(not inferior for sure).
(I had some experience with that guy and his community right after the first showcase went live and he streamed the next day)
Edit 3.1: Ok, now it seems like it was intentional. Thanks.
Relatively little gameplay demonstration? I've never seen so much gameplay footage from any game before its release.
If the game doesn't live up to the hype, the least it would be a good Hogwarts showcase, which is still awesome
