I prefer a good knife for heavy labor. Like a 3 to 4 inch blade. I feel that those longer knives stay sharper longer. With that said. I like shorter knives for when I do not need a knife for my day to day. That knife is the is the Kershaw shuffle. I think the small blade is still a stout blade. I like the tip up carry. This is because the weight of the knife is in the deep of the pocket. The screw driver end I use as a pry bar for cracking nuts. The bottle opener I have used for bottles. I have only once used the screw drive end as a screw driver. I do agree that the small point that touches your fingers is a dangerous spot. I think that the shuffle2 fixes it. But it could have been better with a minor change. I also think that changing the point where the black locks into place. Would be better if it happened sooner. So the blade is in a more aggressive. All in all for a cheaper knife it works. Also if I ever loose or break it. I can replace it.
I have a Spyderco "Chicago" (2" blade 1.75" cutting edge), a Boker DW -2(1.6") and Kershaw "Ember" (2"), plus Cold Steel's "Micro-Recon" (2" / 1.75" cutting edge) all are City of Chicago compliant length. The Spyderco Chicago is a nicest of the bunch. It feels like a "Real Knife" despite it's smaller blade length. 2nd place goes to the Kershaw "Emeber" with some rubber strip anti-skid tape from the hardware store makes it, good. 3rd place goes to the CS "Micro -recon" downside is no pocket clip (but that fact can get you arrested, for clipping any knife of any size on your pocket in NYC), so this makes you pocket this one. Last is the DW-2, great design, but Boker uses the cheapest the material, and Charges a kings ransom for their name only, and their "warranty" isn't worth the paper it's written on once you read the terms... Granted I wouldn't want to use any to defend myself against a gun toting Chicago gang, but to cut yourself out of a seat belt, resection some radiator hose, etc.... they'll work.
I always do when I have to leave it behind. Im am a unarmed security guard so I always have a larger blade on me and a few other items that will maybe improve my chances if something did happen.
i live in chicago 2.5 is the law but most of the laws are intent based so as long your not sticking someone up with it you wont have any problems i carry a kershaw emerson cqc 11 k and a ka-bqr tdi fixed blade and havnt ever been stoped or even asked about it
Carried a 3 inch swiss army knife in Chicago since I was 13. I even bought knives from walgreens at that age as well. Really is lax on the knife laws to be honest. It will depend on the cop. And if you have broken the law in a violent manner. In which case you should be locked up if you are a violent person.
Dude like your shirt!
