thanks for the clip, it was very helpful. for me the wire had broken when the magnifying glass in the right headlight was at the maximum position to the left and the light overlapped that of the left headlight.
Just checking as to correct motor for the headlight movement, isn't the motor/gear that you turned with the screwdriver for the vertical up/down movement, as for headlight range, not the adaptive left right movement.
After lots of frustration and way too much of my time, I do not seem to be able to locate the issue with my lights. Do you feel up to repairing other people's lights, you seem way more patient than I am :)?
Gary - thanks for the offer, but I’ll pass. Patience and persistence is necessary. But it’s still not a guarantee you’ll find your issue. I could fix mine (the video example) because I could see the failure. If you can’t see the failure, it may be a lost cause. I love these lights when they work, but I hate them just the same when they don’t! Wish VAG had engineered a better wiring plan!
Hello. A8 d3 2007 model i have. And same problem comes. 11520 005 g397 errorcode. In my case, i had changed the sensor 3months ago. So this time i gonna fix the headlight broken line. So how do i know that which side is brokien. Passenger side or Driver side??
You would need to remove the headlamp assembly and look in through the back door to see if you could spot a broken wire. In my case, it was obvious. Driver side was stuck pointing far to the left. Passenger side kept moving just fine. In your case, you could manually adjust them both straight and disable the movement motors by cutting the wires. You'd have an error code message forever though. Sad way to go, but it would work.
Do You have fault code number ? In my2008's A8 have 02233 - Left Headlight Power Output Stage (J667): No Signal/Communication , could it caused by broken wire inside?
Yeah - no surprise Audi repairs are expensive! You can get to the bulb by opening the back access panel, then removing the HID/LED ignitor. But it's almost a completely blind job (can't see and do it at the same time) and really tight quarters. Fancy stuff isn't easy to work on anymore!

Thanks for this informative video. It is a shame that Hella/VAG cannot come up with better wire insulation.
Nice work and thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
I wonder if the cut needs to be done in exactly the same place for headlight if Audi A5 2013 (facelift with new lamp shape)
Nice job on the repair, very informative video. What epoxy did you use? What caulk?
Regular Gorilla epoxy, 10-year outdoor window caulk.
Thanks a million! Great video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank YOU.
Very informative. Thanks.
On the Audi a8, the headlight costs 2800 excluding tax. I ordered from Germany, it came out to me $ 400.
Nice! mind sharing what company in germany? hoping i dont need to order but never know

Thanks for sharing! ill be sure to limit adaptavie headlight usage 😅

Jakub - I'm sorry, I don't have the fault code. I corrected the broken wire before pulling the code.
I cant believe how much of the car has to be taken apart before you get to the lightbulb. Why make it so stupid hard to replace a bulb.
