Jeff Darlington was like a first amendment auditor recording the police lol
He was in the sense that he's a journalist engaged in Consitutionally protected activities. This is more evidence that those cops are way out of control and willing to violate anyone's rights.

YES! That is the big story here - cops not being bad (i didn't see video of them pulling Scottie out of the car, but they were walking him in cuffs very nicely, nothing wrong there) BUT STILL HARASSING the folks videoing them.

For what, going over the median and not stopping in a very gloomy rainy weather when the cop was attaching his hand on the vehicle and probably tapping on it too, in which he stopped after 20 ft????????? This is the same situation when you get pulled over on the road and the cop says, "why didn't you immediately stop? What took you so long???" When in reality, you were just trying find a safe place to stop or a lighted area (preferably with surveillance such as a gas station. Never pull over in a dark area where there is no lighting).

The PGA Championship is at Valhalla. The major reason the traffic is the way it was, was because of the freaking golf tournament. His car had the PGA credentials. Stop the nonsense. The cop was overzealous. He knows it. You know it.

The reporter didn’t seem to be the most eloquent with words. I think most people would add the context of how big of a person Scottie actually is if in his position. Same goes for Scottie. If they both actually did do that much and the police officers still decided to arrest him then it’s 100% on them for being the laughing stock of the US atm

From what I heard earlier there’s only one way in and one way out of Valhalla. I can hardly believe this knowing the size of the anticipated crowds. Usually there’s a separate entrance for media and the golfers.

The difference between saying 10 yards and then 20 yards is ridiculous given the context of dragging a person who’s hanging onto your car. If you say ten yards, it can be understood as an oopsie. When you say 20 yards, now it puts the driver’s intent into serious question. So why even state a distance? Especially if, as you guys have pointed out, you are unable to be factual in stating the actual distance? Well because that’s what the media does to get clicks. This situation was a unique opportunity to see in real time how the espn guy’s original statement via his memo recorded basically right after it happened and how it evolved from each new iteration of the story by all of the various media outlets reporting on it.

FOIA the body cams of all officers on scene including others Scottie had contact with before this incident who may have waived him through. At most major events the athletes are escorted into the venue by the local police and if this wasn't the case that's a major failure of both the PGA and local police. They do this at every college & pro sports event. Every driver at the Miami GP F1 race 2 weeks ago was escorted by multiple police officers who were paid $80/hr overtime by F1. There's no reason for an officer to attach themselves to a car over a misunderstanding with the star of the show, the whole reason they are out there in the first place.
In the darkness of night, could it be reasonable to assume Schefler couldn't tell that scene and police presence were because of accident and not PGA-related?
Scheffler was told to stop. HE refused to stop. That is whyt he cfop attached himself to the car. Being the "star of the show" doesn't give him a frees pass to disregard an officer's command.

I live in Minneapolis; a few years ago an Australian woman was gunned down by a dumb as rocks Somali cop who killed her from inside the cop car. Shot her in the guts. Her crime? Approaching a cop car with her lingerie on. The idiot cops “ panicked” at the sight of her and killed her. In a beautiful neighborhood with million dollar houses a block or two away.

@cdl75 Cops often say "stop resisting" even when the person being arrested isn't. It's an automatic response to justify escalation. It's very much a bad apples situation but the bar clearly needs to be raised.

He should've been asking the officers for clarification.
At 15 mph,. a car travels 15 yards in 2 seconds. How long does it take to realize that a jackass has jumped on your car and bring your car to a stop? At 15 mph, a car travels 7 yards to come to a stop -- so to travel the 8 other yards takes 1 second. SO Scheffler had 1 second to realize someone had suddenly jumped on the passenger side of his car in the dark and rain before hitting the brakes. WOW -- what a criminal

A month ago, a similar type of event happened except no one passed away. The off-duty officer directing traffic and Sheriff's claimed that he was seriously injured by a hit and run driver. He was caught and for couple days he was guilty until a dashcam in the back captured that the off-duty officer injured himself by stepping in front of the car instead of getting hit.
Golfer in a marked PGA vehicle who the cops were told were allowed to pass through. How does a cop create a felony situation for an incredible player. He drove around a bus to get through and the officer escalated the situation..Scott's lawyers will share their side of the story and hopefully get him completely off. This was probably someone's ego problem. I wasn't there but I am willing to bet it was escalated by the officer...

I hope the conduct of this 'Respect my authority' supercop-wannabe gets investigated. This arresting officer was eyeing paid time off and a lawsuit on a rich dude, that opportunist pig. This being a felony makes the entire judicial system a laughing stock. The 'few bad apples' argument is moot when known bad apples aren't terminated. Shouldn't any self-serving behavior by an official be a charge of breach of trust? Can't wait to see the lies in his arrest report.

The fact that someone was killed before this incident probably says a lot to the traffic control LPD was doing. Also, when you pull up to scenes like this you cant hardly see anything because of all the lights. This was some idiot cop that over reacted by jumping on a car. He could have just as easily wrote down the plate and done it that way. LPD is not known for their common sense policing.

And one entitled prick thought he was above the basic logic of traffic laws especially when it involves a fatality, goes into a the meridian gets apprehended by an individual. This whole thing is wild. I’m sure his lawyer would easily argue the charges away as the rain coat the cops were wearing aren’t clearly marked. Would be interesting to see the body cam tho.
So they also reported as well that he was not being compliant with the police as well so that didn’t help his case at all, moral of the story is nobody is above the law majority of the time, regardless if you are a celebrity, professional athlete and so on. And he might have felt entitled but we are a only making assumptions at this point.

Cops are always going to pad their side of the story. Which is also why they through a bunch of BS charges at him so he’d choose to settle.
Also, guy looked pretty compliant in the video while the cops seemed emotional & overzealous. Not to mention none of the cars in the vid are marked and numerous unmarked reflective vests are being worn.

My own experience with dumb cops : ottawa, 2021, downtown basically shut down due to a "Truckers protest". I'm an essential worker who HAS to go to work in the downtown. Cops have chexk points set up to make sure you are who you say you are and allow you through. Where these check points actually are is unknown and unmarked. I cross an intersection and see two cruisers parked on the side of the road - it's pitch black out, no signs of a checkpoint, and no officers or signage showing a checkpoint. I drive by slowly and a cop JUMPS OUT IN FRONT OF MY CAR - NO REFLECTIVE VESTS, NOTHING. I almost hit the guy. He proceeds to scold me for not stopping and almost hitting him. I then state he was an idiot for not setting up a proper checkpoint and putting his life in danger for jumping out. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.
What should we expect from a police force? At the very least some common sense.
