Simply fantastic. In my opinion John Wayne is/was one of the greatest actors of all time. Usually I don't like his early movies but this one is really good. Thanks a lot for uploading.
2 thumbs, 8 fingers, and all ten toes up for this wonderful movie ---- unfortunately thumbs down for the massively greedy ads which detract so tragically from the continuity of the story.
ps. Nice music by Walter Scharff and Walter Plunkett gets creds for costumes but I am pretty sure Adele Palmer worked on this. She was a really talented designer. v
Simple but entertaining..I love character actors something you never see any more....Love that Old man, prospector missing all his teeth so he talks funny. He plays this same role in every movie. Then add "The Duke" in his clean cut cowboy demeaner.. Just doesn't get any better..Of course the chance of wealth over night the chance of love and danger is the theme of all these movies...On a more serious note 1943 was a very precarious time In peak of world war 2 , I can only image how well received this movie was taken to get away to a movie in those days, no media no TV for most only ice .real ice AC systems , just to get away from the war drama in radio and news papers endless death.....Millions already dead by this year....Many forget the back drop of these vtg movies and how easy it would be to get caught away with a simpler time like early 1900s American west. Some say as Americans... we in love with greed, sex and violence….For that you have to judge by yourself but there a touch of all those elements in this movie..ALSO AMERICAN HISTORY...During the peek of WW2 1943..So lets not forget its about getting away from reality for couple hours and enjoy the Duke in his younger years before his swagger was locked in,,"PILGRUM" ,,,,ENJOY....THANKS TO UCLA FOR KEEPING THESE MOVIES ALIVE AND WELL
Paul Fix was in a whole lot of JW movies before settling down to being marshal of North Fork, where he got the task of looking out for Lucas boy and Mark. 😊
I can talk just like John Wayne! In 1971, I was quick drawing with my six-shooter in west Texas and shot myself in the leg! I found out that I was not as tough as John Wayne! True story Pilgrims!
This nation needs tough Americans like this again, to get her back on track. We're being dragged into the gutter by criminals and gutless, immoral jackals .............
I've seen this movie before. BUT it deserves to be watched again if for no other reason than to watch the part where the actor playing Teddy R says "That America was built by men (ok or women) that just wanted a chance to build something for themselves and their families"--OR something to that affect! BOY have times changed! Now it's How??? Can I screw America out of Everything I can get with the LEAST amount of effort! I'd say something about SHAME but that is a word that has been dropped out of Every dictionary! Shameful!
Isn't that Dale Evans (Mrs Roy Rogers?) singing and dancing at the 37 minute mark? And the only dancer on stage with completely exposed legs? I wonder if this movie is what clinched " the deal " for Roy?
@dominicpiscopo Yo genius, the song was originally My Merry Automibile, lyrics were later changed by GM advertising. And if you were paying attention, "auteemobile" was mentioned on the train in the beginning.

Perhaps because of : 1. Setting in very early 1900's , 1901 and 1907 respectively . 2. John Wayne's character wearing a nice suit, at least part of the film . But other than that , not really anything in common .

Gr8 fan of John Wayne. He wasnt a Racist at all. What he said was " no person should have any power while they remain uneducated" so he believed in white folk ruling untill other races including African American became educated. All people have the opportunity to do so. Although for many yrs white America certainly held back & stood on the necks of blacks & indian folk. A terrible time really.
Bill I always thought sorrel was blonde because she’s looks blonde in the movie but it very well could be that she has red hair we just can’t say for sure because it being a black and white movie but thanks a lot I appreciate it.
What a different time in our culture. No profane language etc. A simple happy story with a happy ending.
