The Note20 Ultra has an adaptive refresh rate, which means that if your just looking at a web page it might drop down to 5-10 Hz. Mike is saying that the lower refresh rate of the regular Note20 means better battery life since it's only 60Hz, but that might not be the case due to the ultra's adaptive refresh rate. Having said that, I agree with most of his conclusions and bought this over the ultra.

The only thing is the processor is a beast... If they used a SD 765 and charged $700ish, this would be a hot seller. Similarly, if they improved the screen, I think this would be a hot seller. They mixed and matched midrange and flagship features but charged flagship pricing... weird
@@MikeOBrienMedia yeah Agree. But these specs didnt leave a room for a LITE version, that might come later in first quarter of 2021! It clearly looks like a downgraded phone, so as to justify the ULTRA pricing!
Pritam Kaushik I hate edge screens and will absolutely NOT buy one under any circumstance. Also, I used to own a phone repair business and, to me, wanting a glass back over plastic is ignorance at its finest. The glass is less than half a millimeter thick. There is no benefit for the back to be glass.
@@joshuaorange8290 Flat or curved is totally personal choice though. Regarding glass or plastic back, its not that I want glass back, its about cost to the company. The benefit of saving money on gorilla glass back with plastic, should be passed to the customer!
Pritam Kaushik a single piece of cosmetic material like that has essentially no impact of cost of a device like that. I suspect it is a test to see how it lasts long term and how the market handles it. Glass on the front I get. But glass on the back has no benefit whatsoever.
Samsung Tech support agent, the only reason they don't come with wired headphones was to reduce electronic waste because so many people use bluetooth headphones. I do agree though for the price the regular buds or buds live should have been included. Now until recently this year we were doing a courtesy shipment for anyone who did want the headphones but that ended on Dec 4th, most likely to prepare to ship a lot more buds for the Christmas season.
Have the note 20 and tbh I really do love it man and tbh I was very Skeptical of buying it at first but ever since I bought it I fall more and more in love!
Just bought the note 20, payed 900 after taxes for it. The biggest drawback for me is no SD slot and and the biggest plus for me is no more curved screen.
The curved screen on the ultra was a deal breaker for me. I use it as a sketch book every day and the flat display is much better for drawing. I love this phone. So happy I didn't go with the ultra. I was extremely disappointed that there is no expandable storage. Not a deal breaker but still a big let down.
thank you for the complete explanation I am still confused between Note 20 Ultra or Note 20. After this explanation note 20 makes more sense to buy. In daily use, a durable battery is preferred and the power of the chipset is not overheating.
With regard to screen quality as you put it, 1080p is fine especially as you have that on the N20U with 120Hz, so if a negative it is no higher refresh rate. For me, I have tried a couple of 120Hz-phones and do not notice the difference and wonder if it is simply hyped? Mind you I do not play games or fast scroll through my apps or home screens! I will take 60Hz for the extra battery as you need all the help you can get with the Exynos SoC. Positive for me is the flat display, which I feel is sensible on a phone with a pen. 256gb ROM in the UK is enough for 90%+ of users so no SD card is not a big deal. The cameras look good and are exceptional for most users. Plastic is fine as the first thing I do is put on a hardcore case and screen protector. So, for me, saving the £350 for the N20 seems like a worthwhile choice, although I can already get it for £100 less on eBay and if I wait a month or so, nearer £600, I got the smaller N10 last year for £650 after a few weeks last year! Obviously, if you are a spec-junky, live and die by having every new feature and gimmick then pay the premium for the N20U, but if you want something that does all the important stuff then wait a month and get a bargain on the slightly smaller Note (maybe just £100 more than the Pixel 5, and that really will have low specs!).
I just got this note 20 and honestly its great. Sure, it might technically be the "budget" option but its smaller size and better battery life without the drain of the ultras screen makes it a good option for a phone. I'm a 5'11" 200lb man and its on the larger side for me. I couldn't imagine going any bigger.if you want something bigger with a better screen, just get a tablet lol
I had the regular Note 10 and now I have the regular Note 20. I'm very satisfied and its snappier than my old Note. The screen looks 👌 great. I'm very happy with my choice.
So .. as my wife says ' Here's the thing ' .. so i have the Note 10 Plus (2nd one ) and again , due to warranty reasons , for battery issues, the warranty place is going to send me a Note 20 ( regular.) For my replacement.. free !! So I'm all up for getting the upgrade to this new Note 20 can't wait to get it this week !!
in india right now sale is going on and see its very hard to find a note 20 review. literally there were so many reviews about ultra .finally i found a quality note 20 review..thanks mate for ur wonderful review..
I upgraded from a note 8. For me the phone is fine, it fits perfect for what I need it for. Also, due to my everyday routine I prefer the plastic back, it puts my mind a little more at ease. I also perfer the flat display better. Had I the extra 300 I'd spend it, but either way I prefer certain aspects of this phone.
I got the same color and loving it. There's nothing wrong with this phone. It's better than my Note 10 plus. Great battery life and camera. The speakers are better with the 10 plus. I only paid $387.:)
=( =( =( I just got the Note 10 Lite International and LOVE LOVE it.....UNFORTUNATELY I have Net 10 who was bought out and now I have to either get a new phone or change services...I dont want to do either...esp where the Note 20 is sold out
I don't understand the fixation on the screen resolution and refresh rate. Your eye is not that good to require more than FHD on such a small screen. Also, do you notice flicker on a 60Hz screen? No. The upshot of both lower resolution and lower refresh rate is that the phone has less work to do in order to build a picture on it... less work mean better battery life... I will take the better battery life thanks rather than more detail on a higher refresh rate screen that I won't notice anyway!
Hey Mike! I went on Samsung's website earlier and saw a deal on an official certified renewed note 20 ultra for $625 USD and a certified renewed regular note 20 for 425 USD. This may sound like an obvious question but which phone is a better buy? Thanks!
@@furkan482 yes definitely. As far as the phone goes its very nice. The features are great. And I use the pen quite a bit actually. My first ever note so I haven't got anything to compare to. Buy over all I would definitely continue to use note phones in the future

I can tell you right now you're better off buying an S20 than this. It's cheaper and unless you care about the S-Pen, it's more fully featured, too. Actually, I think an S20+ is a great middle ground between the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, but regardless, either the S20 or S20+ are both better buys than this. I have an S20 Ultra and it's fine but overpriced.
No headphone jack No micro sd expandable storage No headphones in the box No pre-installed screen protector Samsung seems to think people enjoy paying more for less. This is a flagship phone and yet Samsung midrange phones will tick of that entire list!
Honestly i have the galaxy s9 and im gonna be on a budget for the next 3 years and i think this phone will be a worthy upgrade but the only thing i dont like is the screen being 1080p,then again i always leave my phone at 1080p to save power so for me its probobly a win. The 8gb of ram, S-pen, cameras, plastic back so in case i drop it it wont be easy to break, and the trade in that can get the phone to 674$. Its just an overall win in my case
The lack of memory expansion is bad. My note 10+ has way more than this down grade. Unfortunately I dropped it and centurion only had this as the replacement. Not happy and not taking this down grade.
Which one is better between the Note 20 vs the Galaxy s 20 plus in terms of camera quality and battery life. Do both phones have the ear phones head jack ?
I got one for $600 in rose gold for my wife. At that price it's a great phone. Thank you for the excellent and honest review. Best Buy $400 off right now
I feel like the pricing on the phone is more about the name "Note 20" rather than what the product is really worth. It's acceptable for a 2019 upgrade, 2020 is the year of 120hz
I just got the note 20 in the US, this is my first note so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but should I replace and how do I replace the tip of the s pen. Like how often should I replace it. And where can I get some replacement tips
I just bought this on prime day for 750usd . Tax free since visiting japan right now and some cash back with credit card so I like to say I got this phone for about 670ish which upgrading from s8 is worth it to me

Hi mike... i want to ask..did will see the clear diffrences between the 1080 p and 1440 p on the screen...is it obviously we can feel the difrences quality?
I have the note 20 and the 9nly complaint I have is the battery life isn't as good as I would like for it to be. Last phone was the Galaxy S10+ and its no better. I know I'm constantly on it and playing games. Anything I can do to help the battery life?
AT&T has this phone free on contract (with trade in). I suspect Samsung doesn't really expect to see the $1000 MSRP to exist in the real world, and the carrier's cost is substantially reduced so that the phone can be sold cheap as a retention or new customer inducement incentive. I would not at all be surprised if Samsung is selling this to retailers for $300-$400. I think it would be a good buy at $700, and I really think we'll see that price well before Black Friday.
The 21 series if being released in a few days and I want a note for a great price, samsung is offering me the regular note 20 for $369 with a trade-in for my $550 for my broken s10e
It is really a nice phone and I bought it at 700$ only. So very happy with it. the only thing is that the battary is not so good as my expectation for a 4300mAh one.
I considered this phone against the Surface DUO, and went with the DUO. Most reviewers, including this one, spend an inordinate amount of time with specs. I say forget the specs and focus on the "Use Case". I've found phones have "reduced" to cameras first and phone secondary devices. One needs to ask him/her self what do you do most with your phone. If it's taking pictures then go with a camera first device. However, if it's a "getting things done" use case, the DUO beats this and all others hands down. Having used the DUO for a week now, I can't see going back.
Great and clear videos, as always! Just one request: can you please compare this with the Note 10 Lite? I don't know for sure, but apart from the last gen processor and no wireless charging, there may not be that many differences. And its almost half the price of the Note 20!
Is the phone back scratched? I doubt it would be scratched if the back had Gorilla Glass Victus (or even GG5 for that matter). Anyway, good to hear something about the regular model.

I really like the plastic back. It feels really nice, makes good sounds, and looks great
It’s not that bad as people make it seem.... s21 regular models will be plastic too!

thank you for the complete explanation I am still confused between Note 20 Ultra or Note 20.
Some phones you have to turn on the refresh rate.
I love how you always clearly state facts and opinions and whether something is worth it 💯
I'm glad you appreciate that! I try to keep things honest and brand agnostic
Great review as always! Insightful, without just following the herd on tech channels on RUclips. Keep up the excellent work!
I love the flat display.
Note 20 is just a Note 10 lite with 865 processor.
Minus headphone jack and expandable storage too 😅
But it has Stereo Speakers and wireless Charging
And some regions don’t even get that benefit!! Exynos is crap!
Wireless and reversible wireless charging, 256gb of internal storage and a better camera system!
@@michelejp69 Ok fair enough, but I think we can all agree that unless you NEED an S-Pen, the S20 FE blows the Note20 out of the water.
So .. as my wife says ' Here's the thing ' .. so i have the Note 10 Plus (2nd one ) and again , due to warranty reasons , for battery issues, the warranty place is going to send me a Note 20 ( regular.) For my replacement.. free !! So I'm all up for getting the upgrade to this new Note 20 can't wait to get it this week !!
The regular note 20 isn't really an upgrade from the note 10 plus.. The note 10 plus is better
in india right now sale is going on and see its very hard to find a note 20 review. literally there were so many reviews about ultra .finally i found a quality note 20 review..thanks mate for ur wonderful review..
The flat screen is so much better for drawing with the s pen
Great review Mike!
Thanks!
I'm getting one as an upgrade in the next 2 weeks. I'm excited. It will be my first note experience. Had huawei for the last 4 years
Did you get it
@@furkan482 I did indeed
@@BIGTASTY90 are you satisfied
@@furkan482 yes definitely. As far as the phone goes its very nice. The features are great. And I use the pen quite a bit actually. My first ever note so I haven't got anything to compare to. Buy over all I would definitely continue to use note phones in the future
@@BIGTASTY90 how's battery life
There is no bad product, just bad pricing. If this phone lauched 700$ even 800$, it will be top seller of the year instead of the joke right now.
Thanks for the review! Prices have come down now!
Just FYI, you say in this vid that this phone doesn't have edge lighting, but it actually does. I picked up this phone yesterday and it's still got the edge lighting feature, even though it's got a flat display. 🙂
That seems completely pointless... Thanks for pointing that out though. I should have looked in the settings for that
The 1 small bummer is that it doesn't have the small led light to inform you when u receive a text
In indonesia you get samsung earbuds+ for free if u preordered the note 20 and the earbuds live for the note 20 ultra.
I guess this was a compensation for the exynoss vs snapdragon chipsets
I agree, the screen refresh and resolution is a bummer for the price. I love the flat screen, and the plastic back. I would give 600 USD for it.
That's easily 700-800 for that phone
Meanwhile, I'm watching this on my Note 3...
That's a solid phone if it's lasted this long. Every phone I get has major issues well within 6 months to a year.
@@dieseldouche7735 Yes sir, got it May of 2014 and it still works perfectly. Although it doesn't have the newest bands that T-Mobile is using so I will have to upgrade eventually.
I loved my note 4. It was such a great phone.
i dont know how you do it... ive always been on 2 year plans so i upgrade as soon as I can. currently using a note 9 and my contract is about to be up so looking into another note as the note 9 has been my favorite phone ive ever had. clearly i could wait til next years model if i wanted to though seeing that ur note 3 lasted this long haha
Great detailed review. Thank you.
Is it possible to get a comparison between s20 vs note 20? Like not the ultra models but just the regulars?
I can tell you right now you're better off buying an S20 than this. It's cheaper and unless you care about the S-Pen, it's more fully featured, too. Actually, I think an S20+ is a great middle ground between the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, but regardless, either the S20 or S20+ are both better buys than this. I have an S20 Ultra and it's fine but overpriced.
Max Miller the S20’s all have that bullshit edge screen.
you can ask customer service for the earbuds, and theyll give it to you for free
Oh that's interesting. I had no idea
@@MikeOBrienMedia yeah, they'll give it to you for free, as long as you give them your order #
Seriously? Like the new ones?
@@Luke-cp6mu noo the wired ones
@@Luke-cp6mu I've had two sets of the wireless headbands and both stopped working after a few months
No headphone jack
No micro sd expandable storage
No headphones in the box
No pre-installed screen protector
Samsung seems to think people enjoy paying more for less.
This is a flagship phone and yet Samsung midrange phones will tick of that entire list!
Camera punch-hole... Ow galaxy note 9, i love you :(
I think the Note 10+ from last year is a much better option still in 2020 rather than the regular Note 20.
It's only problem is the price. If it was like 800, there would be no problems. They're marketing a "budget flagship" as a normal flagship.
The selfie video is fantastic. Crisp image, clear audio. Much better than even the rear in fact.
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised. I completely agree with you
this phone tried to be a note version of the s20 fe
Does the plastic back make it a little more durable?
Which one is better between the Note 20 vs the Galaxy s 20 plus in terms of camera quality and battery life. Do both phones have the ear phones head jack ?
in my country note 10 plus and note 20 not ultra at the same price which one go with it in your opinion ?
Prohibitively expensive for a phone which lacks so many essential features that come even in less expensive models.
I have the Samsung Note20 phone, it works amazing, but I have to say that the price to get it was ridiculous.
It's an amazing phone though! 👍
I have had alot of glass back phones , they break even with a case on.!!! My notes coming today, can't wait
I just got the note 20 in the US, this is my first note so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but should I replace and how do I replace the tip of the s pen. Like how often should I replace it. And where can I get some replacement tips
The glass-backed "Ultra" is much heavier. I love the phones NOTE feature & hate the annual weight gains.
I just bought this on prime day for 750usd .
Tax free since visiting japan right now and some cash back with credit card so I like to say I got this phone for about 670ish which upgrading from s8 is worth it to me
Hello, I live in India where samsung flagship phones are sold with exynos processor. Please tell me is good to buy to buy for 1000 dollars in 2021 or should I look for something else. Currently I have iPhone XR.
The only thing that break the deal for me is the display refresh rate🤗
Ordered this phone through Target. Still in the mail rn. With price matching and discounts I paid $737. But a lot of these reviews are disheartening. Wish the phone would get here already so I could make the decision for myself!
Did you get it and how is it? I really want to buy it.. I’m interested how it goes
Sound on front cam is awesome
Well I'll buy one I have some money saved up and I think it's time to get this phone it's gonna be a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT form the phone I have right now..
Hi mike... i want to ask..did will see the clear diffrences between the 1080 p and 1440 p on the screen...is it obviously we can feel the difrences quality?
Na its fine
Thanks for this review 🙌
I have the note 20 and the 9nly complaint I have is the battery life isn't as good as I would like for it to be. Last phone was the Galaxy S10+ and its no better. I know I'm constantly on it and playing games. Anything I can do to help the battery life?
Guy at sprint told me last night that the regular 20 has an SD card slot but the ultra doesn't but has cloud storage.
Thank you for being such a great RUclipsr you brighten my day and keep up the good work.
I will have mine on Tuesday super excited
I have the note 9. Should I upgrade to the note 20 ?
@@Justme91169 i updated my note 8 and love it .. in my case definitely was a good move
No SD card tray 😢
The 21 series if being released in a few days and I want a note for a great price, samsung is offering me the regular note 20 for $369 with a trade-in for my $550 for my broken s10e
Thanks for the video. Would love to see your opinion on the Exynos version and whether you think it is worth getting?
Hi Mike. Great video man. I really like your videos. I wanted your opinion on the Note 10 lite compared to this phone?
Like the note 20 size. I use DEX will the 12 gig to 8 gig make a difference?
Beautifully reviewed
Glad you liked it!
What is the model of the watch in the beginning? And the name of it's face? 🥺😯😯😯
It is really a nice phone and I bought it at 700$ only. So very happy with it. the only thing is that the battary is not so good as my expectation for a 4300mAh one.
Does the battery cause a lot of trouble?
Iam watching this video on My Samsung note 20 . Iam happy with this phone
Thanks for watching! I've been considering that comparison, and I may make that!
Is the phone back scratched? I doubt it would be scratched if the back had Gorilla Glass Victus (or even GG5 for that matter). Anyway, good to hear something about the regular model.
I paid $1449 for my ultra 512. Why is the way a ohine feels when pinching an issue. And the camera lens bump is odd bump fits fine in case.
i bought one! can't wait to use it 😌
