  • Have you been as confused as me about all the controversy that you hear about which fats are the healthiest? Which ones we should avoid and which we should consume more of? What does MUFA, PUFA, trans fat, or saturated fat mean? Is a low-fat diet healthy or should we aim for 30% fat or higher?
Today I'll go through a basic introduction to the types of fat that are available in foods, which ones appear scientifically to be the most healthy, and which ones we should avoid.

Great explanation on Omegas. Flax and Chia seeds are a part of my daily diet. I always cook with good Italian extra virgin olive oil and use it in salads with aged balsamic vinegar. Most seed oils are so inflammatory, very bad for you. So informative, thank you!

Interesting talk! Thank you for clarifying things! How about all of the plant based butters? Where do they fit on the fat scale?

I don't know anything about plant-based butter that's interesting. I'll have to do some research.

Thank you ! Is coconut oil a saturated fat? Is it good or bad? Is avocado oil a seed oil? Thanks again. I am learning a lot.

Olive oil, avocado oil and safflower oil are very low in linoleic acid - so I didn't want to get too complicated and go into all of them, but any of those three are generally considered to be in the safer category
Yes, it's true that coconut and palm oil are saturated, but it doesn't mean they are necessarily bad. .... just solid . Most of us don't use either of these very much anyway so it's more just educational than anything because I don't know anyone who cooks with coconut or palm oil!
Some people Prefer avocado oil to olive oil because it has a higher smoke point ....but other than that, I usually stick with olive oil myself

I enjoyed this tremendously. It can be a complicated topic and like you said, there are nuances. I was listening to another Dr. and she said if there is an omega 6 and omega 3 in a product, the omega 6 will dominate. I found that very interesting. I remember eating fat free potato chips and thinking it was good for me. I thank you so very much and look forward to your next video.

They are now doing studies on studies, showing that a lot of the studies have a lot of biases and cherry picked as well as being funded by the food industries!!!

Dr susan i heard you say that testosterone should be given twice daily. I have just started a month ago and my doc says if given in the evening it can affect sleep due to too much energy. I am confused. When i started the test cream i felt like king kong and now ive gone downhill again . I started the lowest dose at .25%. I think i need more. I see the doc in a couple of days. When i get the corrrct dose can it help my osteoarthritic
pain or do i need some progesterone. I am already using 1 pump of oestrogel which i have been on for a yr. I dont have a uterus cause i had a hysterctomy for fibroids at 40. I am now 65. Thanku. You are godsent

Really depends on blood levels. You want to draw your blood six hours after you place the cream because it shoots up very high and then drops
      down.
Typical doses are 5 mg once a day or 5 mg twice a day depending on the patient so we start with the low dose and then draw your blood and then go up if we need to!

Shouldn’t cook with olive oil, it basically can be as bad as the seed oils and become rancid easily as well. I use it for salad dressing. I cook with butter and tallow…
