  • A 10-year-old boy was flung out of his seat on an Illinois carnival ride known as Moby Dick. Huntley Daniels was at a festival, an hour outside Chicago, when he was thrown from the ride after falling through his harness. His stunned mom watched the terror unfold. The ride is now closed, pending further investigation. Illinois officials inspected Moby Dick this year and said it was safe to operate. Inside Edition reached out to the makers of the ride as well as the company that leased it to the carnival and did not hear back.

I can't believe they didn't include info on his condition. I went looking and found out he suffered broken ribs, a broken femur, a broken arm, cracked arm & broken jaw. His teeth were shoved into his gums from hitting the ground. It sounds like he's lucky to have survived. He definitely has a long road to recovery in front of him.

Deepest degrees of sympathy and wishes of swift recovery to this child who suffers injury from this untimely malfunction! As well, of course, to his family for their own suffering in witnessing this and in the worries of potenial loss that follow. He's incredibly lucky to still be alive. 25 feet is a pretty far distance and I'm sure he hit concrete. Could have snapped you know what. This kid got lucky. There's been other accidents that have happened similar to this at carnivals and amusement parks and others weren't as fortunate to survive the fall from similar distance.

I was on one of those rides at a local carnival, it was called Avalanche. I’m 5’ 1” and 17, so I kinda bounced around in the seat myself, I had to hold on for dear life since it was so janky. The ride operator was so obvious that he didn’t see at first a girl was having trouble putting on her seatbelt to connect it that we all had to pretty much yell at him to attend to her. I only felt nauseous afterwards and went home (smart choice in my opinion…), but falling OUT is horrible to think about. I would highly recommend not going on these carnival rides. They’re really ratchety and not as smoothly operated as amusement park rides like Six Flags or Hershey; festival rides have a higher chance of being riskier than those parks.
    Many condolences to the family.

My harness did not lock in place and I made the worker well aware of it. He said I was fine and closed the gate to start the ride. The only thing holding me was a loose seat belt as I would go upside down. It was horrible and I’ve never gone on a ride at a travel fair ever since.
