Bob Ross lover thanks for the comment! I actually REALLY like this knife! Regardless of my benchmade feelings. I’m seeing an upward trend in benchmade reports tho so hopefully they’re coming out of this slump!!
Ranger Jon Outdoors I hope so. I have ordered three Griptilians as gifts and one for me, and I also threw this in the cart, and everything is solid. I’m hoping the quality control has seen more funding lol.
My benchmade 940 has a slightly off blade grind, which is kind of irritating, but I can deal with it until I get some good wet stones, definitely will not be able to come with the leatherman wave on a hunting trip until I get that fixed.
Despite the flaws the look of this one was too much to resist. I have found however that Fox knives Livri seems to be a very well liked slipjoint similar to this one. M390, leather slip case, micarta, and around 100 bucks. Value wise, it honestly blows this one out of the water. But again, how can you pass up a knife that pretty?
Thanks for your review, I can tell you strove for honest criticism even if you stepped on my Benchmade defensive buttons a little (I like paying the butterfly tax). I’ve got one coming and while I agree that it’s overpriced by about $25, it’s nice to have an option that channels “traditional” without having to put up with 1095 steel and heavy brass bolsters. Truth is, I’ve dropped $80 on nice GEC #15s with decent micarta but crap steel: paying $35 more for nicer micarta and S30V (plus torx screw construction) doesn’t seem too bad a deal. Obviously, they’d sell a lot more of these at a price point around $95. Comparing it to less-expensive non-traditional knives isn’t really a valid tactic: nobody in the market for a Delica or Native 5 is considering slipjoints. That’s really my only beef with an otherwise considerate review.
Show the one that does not suck. You said this one was a reject. Every company has QC issues. The thing is Benchmade will make it right. I've used Benchmade's warranty service. They are great, but I will will agree Benchmade should have better QC out of the box for the price. Thanks for the review.
Howdy John ! I definitely would have liked to have shown the one that wasn’t as bad as the others, but I had already given it to my friend and he had moved away a few days prior to me deciding to film this. I almost wasn’t going to make the video because I feel bad that my benchmade videos on my channel are negative ones so far, but in the end I felt it was important to still make this. Thanks for watching and let’s hope benchmade finally gets their QC together in 2019! 🤘🔥
Nah, I think it's pretty important to see this crap a name brand manufacturer likes to just pass off. Benchmade just gets a pass because it's American. Imagine the crying if it were European or god forbid, Chinese. Reviews like this prove it's not worth the money. Like buying a new car that needs an ECU tune to rune smooth. Gimme a break
Great video. Have you looked at the cold steel lucky one slip joint made in Italy with carbon fiber and S35vn steel, about 65.00. Keep up the informative reviews.
Thanks Barry! I have been keeping an eye on the lucky one but haven't gotten around to ordering one yet. I will definitely have to keep that in mind. Cold Steel gives you a lot for your money. Rock on dude!
Barry: I was about to make the same comment! Made in Italy too I think. Spyderco slipjoints are made in Italy, Sal reckons they know how to do slipjoints.
Good reviews and knives, I've subbed.. I agree about the Proper, it's close to being a great knife.. The review was on the money.. I got the 319-1 (G10) at REI clearance for $60.. I know all about BM.. I've owned about 20... I'm not sure I like the idea of buying 4 knives and returning the worst 3.. I'd be pissed if I ordered a brand new knife and it had already been messed with..It's no longer new.. OTOH-if it's just taken out if the box and not messed with I guess that's OK but not so sure...
Hey Thomas thanks! As far as ordering multiple knives at once, I simply take it out of the box, feel the action, and look at the blade grind. I never cut things or use them at all for the exact reason you stated here. I do it simply to save time. I also really only do it for knives like a Benchmade where I expect issues due to a lot of personal experience and being burned in the past. Thanks for watching the comment and the sub!
Makes me wanna buy the clone for 1/8 of the price. At least I'd know I'm paying for the lack of quality. Their inflated price just isn't justified without top notch quality. China isn't doing them out of business, it is self inflicted. I'm not paying for the butterfly on the side, I want quality for my hard earned money.
North American made. Top notch materials. Reliable. Best customer service in the knife industry. I have a benchmade in my edc everyday all day since I was a kid. In my opinion they price bang on.
I personally love benchmades but I respect someone that can point out the flaws in any brand.

First one I got was very rough. Lost it and ordered another one. 2nd one perfect. Maybe they have stepped up quality or DLT has better stuff.

If you haven't already, check out the Spyderco Roadie. About $50, and killer functionality. Probably the best slip joint I've ever handled.

Do you think that this would be easy for a lefty to open with the nail nick only being on one side?
Funny what you say about the high price. I just bought the one with cf scales and s90v steel and it cost me $325 aud. Ouch!
Great honest review, thanks for sharing

You summed up my feeling on this knife to a T. Luckily I was able to get one for $80. But even then it still doesn't live up to how awesome it looks.
I love the design, but wish it locked instead of being a slip. I just can't do slip joints as it takes away too much utility for me personally.

Seems the centering is not that good.

Wow. Snob.
