Brilliant! What a great video and a very clever fix. The world needs more people like this 👍
Great video…inspiring
New too ch so far bloody oath good show SOUTH AUSTRALIA
hey Mark, that small lever on top of the left bar is a rev increaser for cold starting, so no need to keep it up manually
Great video truly enjoyed it. The Boxer engine was the one they used in the People's car (VW Beetle) which after WWII the British army were involved in running but the design of the engine was already established by then.
I just picked up a beautiful example of a 1996 R850R with 20K miles on it and not a speck of rust. This is my introduction to Boxers, I was always wanting to give one a go and the R850R seems to be the cheapest to get a hold of. I just gave up $3500 to get into mine, but it needs nothing, has the hard bags, windscreen, is in great condition, and low miles + the spoke wheels I wanted so now I have to see if I get on with it. Now I am checking for known issues to be mindful of. Thank you for the video, I love the shop and miss mine.. I am between houses at the moment so with luck I get a place with a nice shop to work on my BMW when needed.
I replaced it with a pump from a 1150 with four stripes and replaced also the hoses with better materials as the factory once has made.
Good idea. Did yours fail in the same way? At the time I was really surprised that the cable failed in the way it did, but apparently it is quite common. We did make a few calls to see if we could find a second-hand fuel pump, but no luck. Anyway it was a enjoyable few hours.
Amazing👍👍
More please
would it have been easier to use a old Africa twin fuel pump.
We did look around for a replacement pump, but couldn't find anything so decided to see if we could fix what we had with whatever we had lying around. You are right, this is definitely not the easiest way of fixing this but it was fun to do. I have subsequently found out that this is quite a common failure with the older R850/R1150.
Thank you Martin, I gues I have a good bike now!
