+Gabriel Bustos Bernstein had too many irons in the fire to ever have been a great composer. He did indeed compose some good music, but only here and there in bits and pieces. He was no Brahms! How popular is the music of Bernstein? His music should be popular by now if it were any good, but it isn't. Only his Overture to Candide gets regularly programmed at concerts. Bernstein was at his very best as an educator. He should have been a pedagogue at Harvard. He was a fairly good conductor of orchestras, but that is easy compared to composition. Bernstein constantly disappoints.
+Woo Jin Lee Bernstein’s Broadway pieces are better than what Broadway normally produces, but does any of it compare to what a serious composer would write? I think not. I stand by my statement that only his Overture to Candide is a masterpiece. Bernstein will be remembered as the conductor of the NY Phil., and why not since that was where he put his major time and effort. West Side Story is already headed toward oblivion. It will soon be forgotten.
THAT STOPPED HORN SOUND IS THE BEST I’VE HEARD ON A RECORDING!!!’ YASSSSSS
Randy Hawes has a sound to die for. Wow!
this composition is a banger
Totally! No let up from the start, and a total firecracker at the end
Great performance!Hope to see you guys again in China
i really like the way the orchestra is sitting
The orchestra felt that from the start. Put your hands up for Detroit!
Nice tempo. A bit slower that Bernstein's original. Great version.
Anyone knows where to find the piccolo part to this?
2:33
3:10
The one and only piece of Bernstein's that I consider a masterpiece.
Edward245100 one and only? really? he's composed some truly amazing music. his overture is fantastic but to say it's his only masterpiece...

His West Side Story/ symphonic dances from west side story are great and probably his most loved works. Great orchestras regularly perform this work.

West Side Story will soon be forgotten? Say that in NYC and they'll laugh you out of town ...
Solid performance, but considerably too slow
