Thank you for this, I have been debating fixing my Envy x360, which has been the worst PC I've ever owned by far. First the rubber strips fell off, then the keys stopped working on the keyboard, then the hinge broke, and before I could even get that fixed the battery failed. Less than three years old.
The rubber strips and hinge broke on mine too. For such an expensive laptop you'd think it wouldn't fall apart like this. Edit: the R key is giving me some issues now as well :/
@@-themightymittens- same issue! the rubber part fell off, the speaker above the keyboard stopped working and not the hinge broke! I bought this for uni so I can use it in the tablet form and stylus to take notes and now I can't!
I thought about it too but decided that spending that much on repairing it (which I should NOT have to do) would not be worth my time or money. Today I got a laptop with very similar specs. Does what I need it to do and no hinge problems reported, at 1/2 the price. I don't wanna give hp any more money like, ever.
@@jalksdjgalsdgjakgh Yeah, I replaced mine too. Scrapping a $1K PC after just three years is a tough pill to swallow, but probably better in the long run. Spending $500 to fix it wasn't going to make it better, it would likely just break again in another 2-3 years. May as well put that money towards something else.
really usefull video ... BUT ... you forget, as I did :( , to move from the original cover to the new one the magnet in the middle of the left hinge recess ... it's absolutely needed if you want to maintain the lid closing sensor. I glued it in front of the screen now and it works. It's better to put it in its right place. I added few WD40 on the hinges ... smoothness opening!
I was alarmed when I read this - I didn't notice the magnet while doing the job, but on checking the old lid it's there. I checked to see if the keyboard back lighting and screen turned off when I closed the lid and, to my relief, they did. I double checked by setting the screen vertical and then suspending on a thread a small ferrous screw near where the magnet is located. To my further relief, the screw was attracted to the hinge area. I deduce from that that the magnet was in the replacement lid.
Yes same thing happened to my wife's model. She said she just folded it closed and went to open and "bang" there goes the hinge. I thought it was the screen, so I ordered a new screen, prematurely. Now I need the top cover and hinges. Damn HP!
I would have liked to see him open and close the lid after reinstalling it. I have an 15.6" Envy x360 which I purchased exactly two years ago. The keyboard began to act up a few months ago and finally I had to get an external keyboard. So I needed to fold the keyboard under, and this morning, just 12 days after I started doing that the hinge snapped . I could leave it like that because the screen still works, but I need to actually fold the screen and keyboard back toward each other greater than a right angle) or the computer power key will not work! And there's no power key on the external keyboard. So this one flaw means that I have to shell out $1000 to replace this 2 year old laptop. By the way there's a class action lawsuit about HP hinges. it's a known problem with several models of laptop including the Envy. I filled out my info on-line to join the class, hopefully it's not too late to participate.
Ive been moderately using one of these for school and university for almost three years now and Im growing more and more worried because ive heard so much concerning news about this subject. In fact im writing from my machine and was wondering if anyone can give me a few tips what to avoid, or after how much time/usage the computer hinges seem to break. My left hinge is tilted ever so slightly to the left which worries me as well, It 'd be a shame f the computer just dies becuse of this alone, Ive been very satisfied with everything else work related. Im trying to avoid e waste and unnecessary expenses.
@@eliasgotzfried1131 how is the situation now.. RUclips gave me notification of your reply 2months late,, as you mentioned left side hinge is tilted, I would advice to don't close your led and let it be open anytime. For turning off use shutdown that's it. Mine left hinge was also tilted but I didn't cared. Result-oriented hinge came out and broke. Thankfully my laptop still working just I can't close the lid and can't move it to one place to other as its fragile.
Does HP do these repairs? I'm not really ready to break open my PC myself. The PC did wonders for me up until the hinge problem so I really need it to work again. Also I'm broke af student with no mommy or daddy to pay for a new laptop...
So... if I understand well, I need to open the laptop before I can tell exactly which part I need?! I was ready to order new hinges but the cover could be the damaged part. It's the second time I have this problem on my HP Envy x360 and I'm fed up with HP! Thank you for this video!
This is exactly what happened to my Envy. Does anybody know the price range of the replacement cover? I went to a pc repair shop earlier and they said they were gonna call me to give me a quote. I want to have an idea how much it is before I give them the go signal.
I have the same problem and there's no way I would be unable to remove the LCD without cracking the corners. I guess I'm leaving it was still functions fine.
My laptop's Envy 15-edXXXX right hinge has broken and couldn't find the very exact model of the top screen online and I don't even know should I buy only the back cover or hinges as well...poor quality design by HP... I see this is a very common problem of this design.... first the rubbers in the bottom started separating then this screen
So truly if your cover isn’t broken the answer is to lay it flat and gently push the hinge back to regular flat position then either glue or tape the screen together I prefer glue
I have this same broken hinge, also broken at that exact spot where it's screwed into the display backplate. I'm not sure whether I actually want to spend the 30 bucks for a replacement back panel (with this shit design, it's just going to break again in 6 months...), or whether I should just get some strong epoxy and glue the hinge back in place... Would be cheaper, quicker (no need to order the backplate and wait until it arrives) and likely a more robust fix...
This design is criminal. How could this not fail.
Agree 100%

Needing this for the 13 inch version. Almost impossible to find a new cover for the 13M model.

I cannot see how that would work. There is a lot of resistance in the hinge. I think such a repair would break almost immediately.
