Colin, you are a brilliant tour guide!! I adore learning all the historical bits of every place you visit!!! Thank you again for taking us on this journey!!
When I was about 13 or 14 in the early 70's, my mum worked with the wife of Ted Caveny, who was instrumental in the restoration of the peak forest canal, there's a plaque in his memory somewhere near the macc canal junction. As a result I did a little bit of work helping to dig out Marple locks and as a result, we were invited on the first test run from Marple to Godley and back, this would be 73 or early 74. It took all day and we got stuck in the cutting just after the aqueduct, they had to put a chain across the sides of the hull and wind it in with a screw device to reduce the width of the barge, it was an old working boat and we were all in the cargo space. But we made it, in later years it was my regular commute home from work in Dukinfield to poynton by mountain bike. Keep the vid's coming!!
Beautifuly crafted with interesting, differing, subject matter, excellent pictorial research and editing, slick narration and great background music tracks held at the correct levels. All compiled within a week on a boat!. Better than many so called mainstream broadcasters with multiple crew and resources. A joy to watch. BAFTA needs to start a RUclips awards category.
You've been down the Peak Forest so many times now and I keep missing you, I bloody live in Marple and the boat has been parked there for about a year now because of engine problems. Next time you're up this way I am 100% determined to, at the very least, awkwardly wave at you from a distance.
I loved the theater! When I go on motorcycle trips in Western Canada & USA, I make my routes where I can visit old, renovated movie theaters. One of my favorites is the theater in McMinnville, Oregon. Wow... what an Epic shot of the train viaduct, with train passing, and the aqueduct. Oh ya, I almost cried when I received this posting. With the title and yer hugging I thought you'd broke up. I had a WTF moment. ✌🏻💖😎
Who else feels cheated by the lack of outtakes? But at least we found out at 3:36 what happens when a Silver Fox meets a Black Cat. Nothing! Another interesting vlog, great history - and that cinema is fabulous. Thanks fellas, Hollers 😃
Loved the independent cinema. What an achievement to run the place for so many years. So true too that we all asociate good memories for happy places. Really enjoyed this vlog, many thanks for sharing.
As a Romiley lad born in the mid 50's 'the canal' between Romiley and Marple was playground of choice for myself and friends. We used to know every inch of the towpath, happy days! I remained in the Stockport area until 3 years ago when I moved to the south coast, near Brighton. Today's episode has brought back many happy memories of the care free childhood days of adventure on and around the canal, I'm sat here with a huge smile on my face and feeling the warmth of all those wonderful memories. Your vlogs are fantastic, so professional yet funny and informative along the way. Great work, long may it continue ... many thanks to you both.
Nice touch with the curtains opening. I don't know how in hell these little places have stayed afloat (pardon the canal pun). There is an independent cinema that I frequent in Waterloo Ontario called the Princess but I don't know if he is in business anymore or not with all this covid rules. I think these types of theatres are hanging by a thread at the best of times and now of course, as Ontario goes into another 28 day lockdown, it may very well be the nail in the coffin for many of these small businesses. The Princess shows the films that that big box theatres won't show because they don't appeal to the masses. I will sure miss it if it gone. I love these little independent small cinemas. I hope they do well and I hope the locals go out of their way to support it and all small business. They must be hurting.
Fabulous vlog boys. After reading the Waterways article I really wanted to tell you how much I enjoy the three of you and am so inspired by your love for each other and your spirit of adventure. I retired yesterday and am looking forward to many trips away in my small caravan, I will be channeling you two as my partner Janine and I explore the country with our 9 dogs. Wish us luck, I think we may need it!
The historical content you provide is phenomenal!!! You are a natural born teacher. I love wonderful old theatres like this one. I'm in the USA. Finding The Silver Fox got me through the long lockdown in the USA! I just love you, Sean and Otis so much. Loved Dylan too. 💗💗💗💗💗
Timothy west and Prue are legends without a shadow of a doubt.... then second place its you two for sure!!! Always a great video to watch, always interesting and very professional! You would make an excellent tv programme!! Thanks guys. Hope you both keeping well❤️❤️xx
Well you keep giving us such great vlogs each week I feel like I must be watching a professional BBC production.. It is quite honestly as good, and there are few vlogs that meet such high quality. Thanks as always, and stay safe. xxx
So lovely to see you moving, but sorry leaving the upper Peak Forest canal was sad. If Shaun started a cake delivery service, you'd be able to buy the canal in a few months......
Hi Colin I know when you struggle with anxiety and when your mental health kicks in I struggle with the same and when mine kicks in I always watch your videos to make me happy your videos always make me laugh keep up the good work and keep travelling and I hope to see you one day on the Manchester canal I would love to meet you
A nice way to get a history lesson. I used to hate history lessons at school but you guys have some uncanny gift to make it enjoyable. Thank you for your great work.
I came across your channel by chance and i have enjoyed your blogs very much i dont have a boat and dont live by a bargeway . I love the history stories you tell and the wonderful waterways you sail though keep it up boys great stuff
Hi guys, myself and Jane discovered the channel about a month ago, and have thoroughly enjoyed lots of the vlogs. Although i have to confess we haven't watched them in order, but personally i find life is much more interesting this way. The cinema was fascinating and took me back to October 2016 when running demolition from what was the Clydebank Cinema. In the Second World War, it survived unscathed the Luftwaffe bombing it during the Clydebank Blitz, but in 2016 had to make way for one of those hideous timber kit block of flats. I took a very sombre picture from the cab of my truck whilst being loaded, and could only feel immensely sad thinking about all the wonder, laughter, and enjoyment tens of thousands of people must have had through the decades in the auditorium. I still have the picture on my phone to this day, if only i could post it on here. As ridiculous as it sounds, i am sure we speak for tens of thousands of viewers, in saying thank you. You both make us feel like family. Kindest regards...
Just discovered your channel and think its great, I have even got my wife watching you on Amazon Prime. Reminded me of cruising on the Grand Union and Coventry Canals back in the 1960's on my father little cabin cruiser, I think I can remember whole families still living on some of the working boats. Anyway we now live in Gloucestershire and very often walk along the Stroudwater and Sharpness Canal's, there are less hills for to bother our old bodies. Keep up the good work your historic notes and relaxing style are perfectly balanced and if you ever fancy visiting the Sharpness Canal its got plenty of history for you cover.
Hi Guys, great vlog as have said before Colin you have a good feel for history also a bit of showing off with that reverse you have it down to a fine art, take care both and Otis.
Another brill vlog,I think you will be getting your own TV Chanel soon, your vlogs are history lesson on canals ,geography lessons are where you going, and a comedy channel, keep boating 🛶👍
You guys are brilliant no production crew or a tv team and your vlogs are just so well done, informative and so enjoyable. We always look forward to them on a Friday night with a wee glass of vino before pizza and then more vino. Keep doing what you are doing, brilliant.👏👏👏
What an excellent mini documentary about the Regent Cinema! I liked the touch of using the piano music even before we saw the new owner/manager playing. It's also good to see the passion and belief the owners have - " it's not a job, its a lifestyle".
I can watch your videos over and over again, they just make me happy. Well even happier lol, I am a simple soul so I go around with a smile on my face almost all the time.
If you think back to where you were a year ago today, what an incredible journey it has been. So sweet to see a few tears of farewell as you pulled away, and on to the next adventure. Thanks for the history you shared along the way today. I love those rare old independent cinemas. We have two in my town, and both are a unique pleasure to enjoy.
Another awesome video, as always, showing us lovely scenery, history and humour, I always check out exactly where you are using "what3words" just one small point can you make sure it is not obscured by your logo, take care.
I’m so glad you like the Peak Forest Canal, I was born in Marple nearly ninety years ago and the canal ran just at the back of our house. I do enjoy seeing all the English countryside and love your humour. Best wishes to you both, Elsie Thomas.
You 2 are such naturals, never look as is you are struggling to get your feelings over to us, what can I say, a lovely series of videos of 2 guys enjoying life on the canals to the full, always cheers me up to watch you. Hope you realise if this was a BBC series it would have cost about about 20 million to make and had a couple of fake people doing it.
Having just found your channel I have to say I'm loving it, I take my hat off to both of you for what you've done in escaping the rat race, I'm slowly catching up with all the videos and they make me laugh and cry in some places, so sorry for the loss of your little dog only because I know what ours means to me and my wife, good luck in your travels and you have a fan in me now gent's.
The good thing about canals is that they will always be there to revisit in the future :D I bet the Peak Forest Tourist Board have loved all the free advertising of their little patch of England these past 100 days lol
great vlog , but that middle pound looked abit scary, it looked like it needed a good dredging , nice to see that old guy play you a nice tune lol , you did well to do 16 locks in one day , you both must have been shattered , you'll soon have arms like popye haha .
Must be nice to be on the move again after being static for so long. Great vlog guys as always shame no outtakes this week love watching them . Big hello from Portugal
You can come and go and return just as often you please. That’s got to be one of the best things about boat life. You’ll have to go back once that cinema is open again. Fascinating!
This video's camera and voice-over quality is above what I see on high end documentaries. It also has amazing countryside, amazing places and amazing views. Now I know what I'll have on my background while working. Thank you guys.
That was superb. The quality of the filming and editing really made the Vlog float along. I love learning about the history of the canals but the little Segway's you introduce are fantastic. Once again thank you for letting me ride along with the three of you. All the best and keep safe. Stephen xx
The improved weather adds to the feelgood vibe of the vlog. Great work guys and thanks for keeping us entertained through lockdown. Keep up the good work.
You’ve done a tremendous job keeping fresh content over so long though it’s also lovely to see you on the move on such a glorious day even if it is a wrench. Love the way you do the stories and that was brilliant light angle for filming in the lock, wow! Good to see Marple horse tunnel again and the aqueduct. Thank you.
Hello from Alert Bay , British Columbia, Canada 😎 ( a small fishing village/ island on the west coast ) . I have been traveling vicariously with you fellows for awhile now . I always make a point of making a cup of tea and making sure there will be no interruptions while I watch your weekly vlog. You fellows are a ray of sunshine for me in all this madness. Someday I hope to be able to wave hello to you while I walk one of those lovely canals. Thank you 🙏 and a big hug to you also 🥰
Watched that one with my wife, and she was very impressed with the quality of production and entertainment. I reminded her that we should have been on the Peak Forest last Summer and would have gone down the Marple Flight too. She reminded me that our youngest daughter had the great idea to film it at high speed so it would look like we were on a canal log flume! Looking forward to next week. Happy Easter.
I think your both lovely. I love your humour. It's good to laugh. We use to go on houseboats on holiday to Norfolk, happy memories, I miss my Dad he is in heaven, he is really special. He use to love his fishing. Thank-you for your Channel.
I enjoyed that. Some of the camera shots were sublime. A welcome unwind after spending three hours repairing my friends doyley of an inertube on her bike. Thanks folks, quality viewing.
For the time you’ve been doing these vlogs, for the challenges you’ve faced...the consistent quality shines through as always. Colin the gifted film maker, writer and historian, Shaun that wonderful smile and laughter...always a pleasure to see you boys, hugs🤗
Another nailed presentation guys, absolutely! That piece on water sluices seems to hold even today with water well drillers, creating a discharge pond, setting up a temporary vee-sluice and calculating the flow with accuracy that is accepted. (Don't know how that works, but there you go, have witnessed.)
The v-notch forces the water to go over the weir at a constant speed, regardless of depth. This makes the volume of water calculatable by just reading the depth, as discharge (volume over time) is a function of depth and speed. Studied this at university, very ingenious and even though in modern times sensors and gauges are used as Colin says, a lot of those still rely on the science of old school hydrometrics and v-notch weirs.
102 days. As long as it took to build the Prototype Mustang Fighter from placing order to rolling out the airframe (1940), and about the same time that it took from starting laying the keel to Launch of HMS Dreadnought (1906). Back in those days we didn't mess about did we. Aye, we wuz a Land o' grafters!! (translation needed please). ^-) Your favourite place is still there, it hasn't gone and you can return.
Thanks for the music, Barry! Well done, gents! I see you both had to work the locks. Shaun looked a bit tired, and Otis looked plain bored with so many locks.
Colin and Shaun, fantastic vlog. Your photography and videography is breathtaking as always. Your historical knowledge is always well remembered 😉. Doesn’t matter having a few tears, as that place is so so beautiful. I totally respect you for showing emotion and I’d love to give you both a hug one day. As I’ve said before, I see you both as ambassadors for mental health and well-being. Two wonderful guys. So proud of you ❤️❤️
...almost a one man show 😉😊..and the drone shot of the aqueduct and the freight rain...just beautiful🤩, and as always informative and very well done 🛥💨😁😄
👏 Fabulous content, great camera work and wonderful commentary all overshadowed by your humour and fabulous personalities. Never better and can't wait for next weeks episode.
Wonderful vlog! The cinema was so beautiful - I miss places like that, it would be an experience just to visit it, never mind watch a film there :) The gentleman playing at the end really added something special to the whole vlog - seeing you on the move a little, and having some facts and history about the places you were passing through helped to make it feel as though ‘normality’ (whatever that is) might be seeping back (even if there was a traffic cone wedged in a lock gate!) Hope the pizza was a good one and you enjoyed a well earned rest after all those locks ☺️🐾
Great to see Timothy West As the Canal God LOL, really enjoy the history that you give for the canal thanks so much for the Time you put in to entertain us.🤗

What an excellent mini documentary about the Regent Cinema! I liked the touch of using the piano music even before we saw the new owner/manager playing. It's also good to see the passion and belief the owners have - " it's not a job, its a lifestyle".
Exactly! That's why that place is a success 👍🏻
Very entertaining, gentlemen.....thank you for sharing...God bless.
Our pleasure!
I can watch your videos over and over again, they just make me happy. Well even happier lol, I am a simple soul so I go around with a smile on my face almost all the time.
Shaun goes round with a smile on his face all the time, I think he just looks constipated 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great cinema visit.
Thank you! x
Thank you so much!
Another awesome video, as always, showing us lovely scenery, history and humour, I always check out exactly where you are using "what3words" just one small point can you make sure it is not obscured by your logo, take care.
Thanks 👍
I’m so glad you like the Peak Forest Canal, I was born in Marple nearly ninety years ago and the canal ran just at the back of our house. I do enjoy seeing all the English countryside and love your humour. Best wishes to you both, Elsie Thomas.
Thank you so much, Elsie! We really love Marple and the canal up to Whaley and Bugsworth 💜
Thank you so much!
Some great camera work this episode. Thanks.
Our pleasure!
Aww, thank so much mate!
Busy day. Good work as always guys. Thanks.
"I like historical things". You'd probably like me then. I'm old.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻😂😂😂
The good thing about canals is that they will always be there to revisit in the future :D I bet the Peak Forest Tourist Board have loved all the free advertising of their little patch of England these past 100 days lol
Haha! I bet they have 😂
great vlog , but that middle pound looked abit scary, it looked like it needed a good dredging , nice to see that old guy play you a nice tune lol , you did well to do 16 locks in one day , you both must have been shattered , you'll soon have arms like popye haha .
Thanks 👍 Yeah, totally shattered! x
I love all the historical content you give us. I’m sure it takes a lot of hours to prepare and we really love it. Thanks so much!
Thank you 🙏
Must be nice to be on the move again after being static for so long. Great vlog guys as always shame no outtakes this week love watching them . Big hello from Portugal
Wish we could get to Portugal! 😂
As usual just awesome. So well put together. Congrats guys !!!!!
Cheers Brian 👍🏻
You can come and go and return just as often you please. That’s got to be one of the best things about boat life. You’ll have to go back once that cinema is open again. Fascinating!
Yeah, love to watch a movie in there
Heading my way.....😁🥰
👍🏻👍🏻
that was such a cool segment about the theater! loved this one, guys!
Thanks so much guys!
This video's camera and voice-over quality is above what I see on high end documentaries. It also has amazing countryside, amazing places and amazing views. Now I know what I'll have on my background while working. Thank you guys.
Aww, cheers, Florian!
Lol, I'm irish but I have to say British engineering is astounding, I definitely now have British canal journey on my bucket list 😁
Very cool!
2 comments. Fabulous filming. You’re the best of the blogs. And the history is fascinating to this old Yank. Glad to see you floating again!
Glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant section about the cinema. That lock looked very deep. I’m living next to a lock on the Crinan canal now 😊 Great episode guys. Thanks ❤️
Thanks 👍
That was superb. The quality of the filming and editing really made the Vlog float along. I love learning about the history of the canals but the little Segway's you introduce are fantastic. Once again thank you for letting me ride along with the three of you. All the best and keep safe. Stephen xx
Glad you enjoyed it!
The improved weather adds to the feelgood vibe of the vlog. Great work guys and thanks for keeping us entertained through lockdown. Keep up the good work.
Our pleasure!
Thank you.
Always a pleasure, Ana 💜
As always, you bring beauty to this crazy life that we're all trying to find our way through. From my heart to yours, thank you.
Wow, thank you
Hello from Alert Bay , British Columbia, Canada 😎 ( a small fishing village/ island on the west coast ) . Thank you 🙏 and a big hug to you also 🥰
Welcome aboard!
Thanks, you too!
I think your both lovely. I love your humour. It's good to laugh. We use to go on houseboats on holiday to Norfolk, happy memories, I miss my Dad he is in heaven, he is really special. He use to love his fishing. Thank-you for your Channel.
Aww, thanks so much, Suzita!
I enjoyed that. Some of the camera shots were sublime. A welcome unwind after spending three hours repairing my friends doyley of an inertube on her bike. Thanks folks, quality viewing.
Thanks, Paul! x
For the time you’ve been doing these vlogs, for the challenges you’ve faced...the consistent quality shines through as always. Colin the gifted film maker, writer and historian, Shaun that wonderful smile and laughter...always a pleasure to see you boys, hugs🤗
I appreciate that! Thanks, James!
LOVE THE CINEMA
👍🏻👍🏻
💖 Luv your 'history' lessons...learning is fun when it's taught right...and you do a superb job ! 💖...safe journies...
Thank you!
So nice you recognized the veterans!!!!!
Always 💜
Has to be you're best scenic video yet! Vista's, historical buildings and signs of Spring at last..
👌👌
Wow, thanks!
Another nailed presentation guys, absolutely! That piece on water sluices seems to hold even today with water well drillers, creating a discharge pond, setting up a temporary vee-sluice and calculating the flow with accuracy that is accepted. (Don't know how that works, but there you go, have witnessed.)
Cheers, Peter 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the music, Barry! Well done, gents! I see you both had to work the locks. Shaun looked a bit tired, and Otis looked plain bored with so many locks.
Our pleasure!
A very happy Easter to you both from across the Pond.
Thank you, you too! x
So proud of you ❤️❤️
Thanks so much, Sharon 👍🏻💜
No bloopers? You just had one take and that is it? Perfection!❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Yup!
@@FoxesAfloat Wow! ... bloody brilliant! :D
Great video guys, you have helped me through a dark winter!
Glad to help!
...almost a one man show 😉😊..and the drone shot of the aqueduct and the freight rain...just beautiful🤩, and as always informative and very well done 🛥💨😁😄
That is excellent footage and timing
Thanks!
👏 Fabulous content, great camera work and wonderful commentary all overshadowed by your humour and fabulous personalities. Never better and can't wait for next weeks episode.
Thank you so much 😀
Wonderful vlog!
Thanks, Maudie!
That aqueduct is mind blowing. Another top vlog guys. I'm looking forward to the summer cruising you'll be showing us. Keep up the good work guys 👍🏼
Thank you! Will do!
Great work all those locks. Lovely to see you out on the cut
Thanks 👍
Great to see Timothy West As the Canal God LOL, really enjoy the history that you give for the canal thanks so much for the Time you put in to entertain us.🤗
Our pleasure!
