Just came home from the Met Opera Live in HD broadcast and ...wow. For a movie theater only watching the live performance, the applause was immediate, constant and appreciative. Heart-rending and stunning. Loved it, Loved, Loved it!
Honestly, Ailyn Pérez and Gabriella Reyes are two of the very few well developed sopranos on the Met stage today. Shame on Met in general regarding many choices of mosquito-like underdeveloped singers such as Olesya Petrova, Anita Hartig, Olga Kulchynska, Joyce Didonato, Aleksandra Kurzak, Liudmyla Monastyrska, Ying Fang etc.
So glad the reviews for this have scathing. Not Ailyn, who has been praised. But the music, libretto,.and staging have been RIGHTLY destroyed for their almost amateur level execution. This opera is awful.
Not sure what reviews you're referring to, but the ones I saw were pretty positive...certainly nothing scathing. And though I've not seen the whole opera, I'm finding the music stunning. I know it's all out of context and as a composer/writer myself, I understand that context is everything, but what I hear here certainly makes me want to see the work. Would love to know why you think it's so awful.
Wow. I just saw it and thought it was magnificent, as did all my companions. I liked the staging and most everything about it. I hope it remains in the repertoire. Just what did you find so bad as to call it “awful”? For me, it was WONDERFUL in the true sense of the word.
@@LaRush62I think it’s stunning also. I went to see it twice. And I have no interest whatsoever in knowing why ANYONE, let alone someone I don’t even know, thinks it’s awful. Nor will I discuss some of the genuinely awful operas I’ve heard recently. I only know that I haven’t heard Grand Tradition singing like THIS since Kiri Te Kanawa or Renee Fleming. Ailyn Perez is a PATRICIAN singer with flawless musical instincts, astounding vocal virtuosity, and vocal cords of platinum.
I can't believe this doesn't have millions of views 😢 absolutely one of the best performances I've watched EVER.

Nadie la escucha. Que pena.

I don’t applaud when works are trashed

Heartless people don’t like this opera
