My father did a lot of voice-over work in Australia, a top engineer he became acquainted with used an analogue desk for mixing, including a lot of full orchestra, because he (credibly) insisted that it produced (to use the usual cliches) a more natural and less clinical sounding result, that it let the individual parts 'breathe' better than the digital addition-and-subtraction of a DAW.
Doing work on a real desk is magical, nothing beats it. It's like the same with Guitars, Amps vs sims. Yes, sims/Digital is cool and all, but it is NOT the same and will never be the same as the real deal, there's more to it then just ''capturing the sound''
Hi it looks like you really know how to gain stage, I can see it on the meters I see it on your faders I see it on how your levels hit the outboard equipment, it's a beautiful thing to see, I can only imagine how it sounds in your studio, big Up my brother big Up.
I'M SORRY! I won't do it again! Okay? lol. Thank for the support! Seriously though, I have bunch of videos lined up that are better than anything I've done before.
Thanks! How much time do you have? LOL. I used two of the patch-bays that the previous owner had, and I added two more patchbays, plus some summing mixers (not for the sound, but to sum things together), and more.
The Chandlers were slightly too much for my taste but wow I did not expect those Fatso's to hit hard like that and it's not even the UBK modded one. Nice! The Pultec remains a classic too, always nice when you kick it in.
Yeah. I noticed that (the Germanium's), but I was just grooving with it. I'll re-calibrate them a bit over the next few days. I'm using the Fatso's on everything but the drums and bass, which is a bit odd, but when done right it's sounds quite nice.
Love to see you're back! I see you've changed your setup in the meantime. Without text sometimes it was too fast for me. 😅 So the Fatso is now used in the place of the 33609 for everything but drums, right? What's with the Germaniums, couldn't really tell... Ah, man, how I miss working a desk. We had that exact same AWS board - sold it, but at least kept all the outboard.
I'm going to put text on many of my upcoming videos. This was mostly kind of a fun test I think I used the 33609 on drums and bass in the old videos. Now I have the 33609 on overheads (which also includes the real kick and room mics). now I have the Distressors on the Drums and Bass bus. The Fatso is on everything that isn't the drums and bass (mostly just for the warm function). I'm using the Germanium's to add glue to the mixbus. I'm still trying to dial that in. I do love my AWS, but I'm not married to it. My plan is to get a 4000 E or G in the near future. Thanks for noticing the details!
Thanx! I just checked and memory served me right, the last couple of videos had the Distressors on drums and bass and 33609 on everything else. Fatsos on Overheads. Looking forward to the next videos, keep it coming!
Excellent question! There are many ways to deal with this in the analog/hardware world. In my case, I tend to find settings that feel good for most of my hardware to stay, and I use the Total Recall setting on my SSL AWS 900 to recall any of the settings on the board.
Great question! I try not to mess with my outboard gear. If I need to change something drastically I go to the desk EQ or use some plugins. Most of the gear that I've had for a while usually stay's where it is, because I found a sweet spot a while ago. The new gear takes a while to find that spot.
What plug-ins make a guitar With the keyboard, the mono sound becomes stereo sound. But what if I don't have hardware like yours that makes it stereo? What plugins can I use? Or do you have any tricks to recommend? Thank you.
I put a DBX 902 on it. That's probably what you're hearing; it does warm it up and tame it down. LSR Audio makes a killer plugin version called the "VLB 902 DE-ESSER." It's also available from Plugin Alliance as the "Lindell Audio 902 De-Esser." After it's de-essed with the 902, you can crank up the highs without it biting your head off.
Thanks for the question. None actually. I have some plugins on the channels before they go out to the board, but nothing on the master bus (all analog hardware only).
@@amplifiedwax Apple Vision Pro. It was driving me nuts to not be able to see what the Go Pro saw until playback... sometimes it was crooked or didn't record, etc. Now you see exactly what I see, which I like.
when the pultecs hit 🫠
This looks way more fun than staring at ProQ 3 all day lol
Granted, when I'm using a plugin EQ, it's always ProQ 3.
How much i miss have a mixing session in that analog and magical athmosphere. You are back happier than ever i see 🙌🏻
Glad you enjoy it!
clearly having THE BEST time

Everybody loves the Pultecs switching on, but for me, it was the RMX16 on the snare. As an 80s fan, I love the sound.
Bro chilling asf
This song is so funky! I can’t stop vibing to it. Awesome job!😊
came for the Pultecs, stayed for the FONK!
Please make a studio tour :)
Its always a pleasure to see you work your magic.

analog consoles is where you become one with the sound, is this a SSL console
Killer! Definitely fun to watch this'n! Question, can you write automation with that bad chicken?
Absolutely. Some of my future videos will have the motorized faders moving.

@@DanDuskin Thanks!
Very interesting mixing video, is that all made without protools?
In a perfect world, it would be.
Awesome as always. To what extend do you tweak the outboard vs. having your favorite settings there and you go to them when you want that sound?

What plug-ins make a guitar With the keyboard, the mono sound becomes stereo sound. But what if I don't have hardware like yours that makes it stereo? What plugins can I use? Or do you have any tricks to recommend? Thank you.
For guitar, maybe the Brainworx bx_StereoMaker. For keyboard, maybe the SoundToys MicroShift.
@@DanDuskin thank you
We need an alternate view from behind the console so we can see the dancing.
With my silly looking Apple Vision Pro on? lol! I'll think about it.
nice beaver ahahahah
last video tricked me, I thought a cool application for Apple vision was coming out that integrated with pro tools for a vr studio set up
Well, I am mixing with it on, for whatever that's worth. I guess I could mix with the environment app on the moon or something, lol.
how did you tame that guitar? i can't get to sound like that, i'm obsessed with brilliancy and it sounds squeaky

humm nice but too shaky for me to watch..sounded good
Sorry about that! I suffer from motion sickness myself. Kind of weird that I'm doing this, right?
So are you using the Apple Vision Pro to record this now or are you still using a GoPro?
@@amplifiedwax Apple Vision Pro. It was driving me nuts to not be able to see what the Go Pro saw until playback... sometimes it was crooked or didn't record, etc. Now you see exactly what I see, which I like.
