I suffered a finger injury that resulted in a snapped tendon and a mallet finger. My sister-in-law who is a hand therapist made a finger splint and I kept my finger splintered for 7 weeks. It took discipline and a strong will to recover to keep the annoying splint on. The splint came off at end of 7 weeks and the mallet was gone. Just a very slight lag at about 3 degrees. From there onwards it took a further four weeks of glide exercisers to strengthen the tendon and get it moving without resistance and able to move and bend fully. I don’t wish this injury type on anyone as it’s a long recovery time and lots of discipline.
Same me
Thanks for saying that I'm In that situation rn
I have it right now but I move a lot in my sleep and it increases my recovery time. Any tips how to keep the splint on?

Thanks for sharing your story. I suffered an injury to my little finger a.k.a pinky almost a year ago which resulted in mallet finger at DIP joint with almost 20 degree bend. I didn't undergo any treatment and about two months later there was no swelling and no pain either. However, the bend is still there. I have no problem performing day-to-day tasks. But the pinky doesn't look so good. The finger is not from my dominant hand. So do I still need to undergo any treatment? If yes, then is it too late now?
Thank you Nabil. You helped me understand my condition. Just came out from tendon surgery with k wires.
Dr Nabil hahaha, I guess he deserves more respect than being called just Nabil
I failed epically at polishing a wine glass, now I have a mallet finger 😭
had a bony mallet finger last august, hitting my pinky while loading my suitcase in the car going on holiday... didn't take it seriously, thought if it was broken, I wouldn't be able to bear the pain. cut long story short 2 weeks after doctors said, you 're too late in... bone has started formulating but broken part of the joint is off. you need surgery... surgery done 3 weeks after injury... 1 k-wire in and casting for 5 wks. doctor takes it off. physical therapy started to get the DIP joint moving, 3-4 days a week for 4 weeks... 24 sessions after, the bump on the joint does not subside.. we take an x-ray... joint has healed but bony fractured little piece did not fully sit in the joint... partly out... 50% of times i flex my finger, i hear a crack... lag is not too much but grip and strength of the pinky are impaired..
Sorry to hear that, it's crazy how serious it is even though there's no pain
thank you for this lecture. I'm in my first year of medical school and this was great review for one of my school lectures.
thank you Dr.Ebrahim,it's helpful for me because I make the splinter over the whole finger .Thank you again.

I hate how long it takes to heal....
Thank you dr.ebraheim
Thank you so much!
i just took my splint off today, finger is kind of useless and unbendable now, but i think il get there.
Hi everybody. Ive had my splint on for 6 weeks as of today. It’s surprisingly straight. However I feel like can’t bend the tip of the finger at all, even if I tried. Is this just part of the healing process or will I not be able to clinch a fist again.? Thanks in advance!
How is your finger now?
@@kieranwilkinson2743 It’s doing good now. I’m off my splint now. I’d say it’s about 90% I can clinch a fist now and do everything normal again.
@@jonathanmurgas6414 just curious, is your finger still swollen though?
@@Ryan-vq5ur No my it’s not swollen. Luckily I got a full recovery. FYI I stayed on my splint for about 3 months.
@@jonathanmurgas6414 gotcha. Thanks for responding
I just got injured while taking off my pants and my middle finger is bent. I can only get help in 5 days from now as I am in Mogadishu. What can I do in the mean time?
Similar happened to me but chasing my underwear LoL. You must put the splint right away and go the Emergency. I guess you did that. Keep the splint straight always. I modified mine splint due my finger can bend inside. I am in the process to take it out after 2 months. my finger is stiff but little by little I hope to recover in one month more.
Keep it Straight with a Splint, the one showed is calle Stax Splint. That is the good one.
3:20 treatment
How to fix lag? Should i tear my tendom again and restart the splint process to fix lag?
Excellent
I have this type of finger injury. I have not taken treatment.
Thanks a lot.
I have mallet finger injury in small finger. I went late for x-ray , after 18 days as I did not feel pain at all. I just hit a nail to stair support. In 2 weeks cast will be removed. I will see.
Bruh I've had all mallet fingers since birth, I can make my fingers into claws anytime.
Same-
Can i see it ?
Ty very very much
I've had it since I was a kid no idea how it happened. I can flex my finger up but it doesn't go all the way up, it just wiggles pathetically
I have mallet finger injury 6yrs ago on my ring finger, does anyone had an idea if putting splint would work or do I need surgery? 🥺
Same here, ring finger and all from 6yrs too. I’m wondering the same thing
please anyone has got any info my ring finger is also mallet finger
Sale here , any update
Thank you
I have a mallet finger from last 3 years idk how it happened to me but i remember my finger started bending gradually and i ignored that after first six months or so i started seeing that now my finger is totally being mallet , i told my parents about it but guess what they also ignored 🥲 i kept telling them that it can be a serious problem but they didn't got me to the doctor after a year or so my middle finger of left hand also started to bend or mallet in similar trend like the earlier one , then i ignored that because i knew no one gonaa do anything about this and now after 3 years my index finger the first one that started creating problems is totally bended and i can't even hold a pen properly and my parents are still not taking it seriously 🥲
Sad but its true
And after watching this video and seeing the comments , i am totally terrified ( i think i am too late are they gonna cut my fingers now 😭
Ohh god i will not wish something like this to my baddest of enemies....
My pinky is also a mallet finger and I don’t remember how I got mine either.. It’s just been like that for as long as I can remember. I’ve told my dad it bothers me multiple times but he did not take it seriously either. Today I literally cried becuase it just bothers me psychologically so much, I am really insecure about it and feel like I have to hide it from everyone. I booked an appointment with a doctor today so I’m hoping he will send me off to a hand specialist 😢
Salve a tutti. Mi potete descrivere in maniera tecnica e dettagliato in cosa consiste la correzione del dito a collo di cigno secondo zancolli?? Grazie
I hope I don’t have to get surgery 🤦🏾♂️
Did you have to get surgery?
@@aaroncarroll9438 no, I went to Amazon and bought a split and kept it on for about 2weeks.
@@MrJsandifer43 Does it work well ? HOw is your finger ?
@@svilenpetrov9074 my finger is good. Bought a special split on Amazon and it worked well. It will be rough at first. You will need to adjust your comfortability but I highly believe it’s doable.
@@MrJsandifer43 : thanks , mate ! I am already wearing a splint , we will see how it is going
Car crash last night. Now I have a mallet finger on my pinky finger. I guess I need a splint. Ordering one off Amazon.
i dont think i have mallet finger i didnt suffer any finger injury but i can move/bend my fingertips from the joint down by will and i dont know why i dont remember not knowing how to do it but i havent met anyone else who can do that so i dont know what that is
You're just double jointed. If it's willing then it's fine :) it's like how some people can twitch their nose
My wrist all tendons damage due to high voltage how do repair
I found mallet finger problem 1 year ago. I have to fix it now. Can I use extension splint?
hey did you got the answer i m worried please share you experience is it cured by a splint
What is the cost for mallet fingers surgery sir?
Thank
Just like my pinky finger, can it healed?
Good
I have that it's pretty cool
Can we ban it after surgery
Fingers are fragile for sure. Although I wished I had this injury instead of lateral band snapping syndrome, which I have in my trigger finger (sport shooter). That injury sucks, since the only option is surgery or just let it get worse. My specialist didn't opt for the surgery since it's mild, but man can it ruin hobbies and using mouse with PC. Also it's too that the injury is very rare also..
I have that on 3 of my left hand fingers and 2 on my right hand
I haven’t had any pain or anything I have had my pointer fingers I forgot what those fingers were called but I’m gonna put an emoji so you know 👆 but yeah that finger has always been in that weird mallet finger shape since birth I can bend it and I feel no pain at all so I have been looking in the internet and I don’t know what I have
Same here😅
Just did that to my finger from putting my pants on 😂😂
hahaha another one. I did it with my underwear
Similar here… for those who hurt it in a stupid way with clothes, how did your healing go? Is your finger strong as before? Can you fully straighten your finger?
This is what just happened to Russell Wilson.

DIP method over plain why sir
Did anyone get their finger numbed BEFORE the pins were pulled out? I didn't.
Wow, did it hurt? My finger was 100% numb when the doctor pulled the pin out. I did not feel anything at all.
@@jaybloomfield5082 You bet it hurt. As soon as the nurse pulled out the first pin, I reacted by kick-stomping his foot. Felt like pulling out a metal nail from my skin and muscle.
I would like to know, could the extension splinting work on an old dated injury? Severals years ago I had a minor injury that ends up in a mallet finger. I hope you can answer my question, thank you.
I'm sorry, my guess is probably not, since we are told that the treatment could be delayed for up to four weeks. In several years, the tendon must have healed in its new position long time ago. But, if you are reluctant towards a surgical fixation, even with a zero expectation from a conservative treatment, I would probably give it a try for two months. Just because such a DIP joint extension splint is very cheap (about 4$ in my country, must be more or less the same everywhere) and it's easy to handle.
@@ina268 Thank you very much for answering my question, yes I'll give it a try, in fact im already using one and i can see certain improvement, the finger is less rigid and a little bit straightened, sinse it never had been a real problem for me i never pay attention to it before but now i thinking about the surgery, thanks again.
@@vics.rivera2602 You are welcome! I'm very glad to learn about your interim results, keep it up!👍
Im having the exact thing, i got this injury a year ago but i was too lazy to do anything about it until it start affecting my daily activity
had my injury on my left middle finger about 2 years ago. Thought it was just swollen and would go down and haven't thought about it at all. I haven't even noticed it really but comparing to my other finger it has like a hard bump on it. I can still stretch it out and it doesn't seem to affect much or anything at all. Only after googling it now have i gotten mad at it. And it doesn't help to read that "nah, ur fucked. Should've seeked treatment right away" even tho i had no idea at that time... Just so annoying. A bit scared now as to what will happen to it in the future.
Hows it going for you? Have you been able to fix it?
I have a mallet finger on my right little finger. It happened almost 15 years ago. It never heal completely because i have to go back to work as a waiter. Niw my pip joint on that same finger seems deformed. May be i have put too much weight on it while doing yoga everyday. What can i do now? Is surgery the only way to help? Should i just let it be?
Have u found an answer
This won't heal so don't bother trying. Splint on three weeks and it looks the same bent. Just live with it you soon forget it
Aoa sir ma ny apni finger k surgery krwani ha
damnit i have this i just make my own splint on my finger tips
Happened to me a few years ago. No health insurance so i bought a splint and left it on for like 3 months and it finally healed. Shit sucked
I'm a first

hello anyone ? , one question , if the outcome after 10 weeks splinting the pinky finger is not 90-100% but theres a little bend , is it something normal or i need surgery ? or even splinting it again ..
