What's going on with the new K3 iii? Heard it had a firmware update already, pretty fast for Pentax 😂
Lovely...thank you!! I have a used K3 and I couldn't get the gps2 unit's astrotracer to work without trails, someone suggested my firmware might need updating as the gps unit is quite new. Here you are as my knight in shining armour :)

@@LeeIveson I am subscribed and I am also FB friends with Kobie. You have to check out Ed at Photo Universe. He is a little crazy but not as nuts as Ken Wheeler, The Angry Photographer. Both are entertaining and highly informative.

Thanks for this! Just got a used K3 today. What's missing on the website is that the camera will shut itself down after completion. I missed the 'complete' notice so I didn't know if the camera was still doing its thing or not. Was afraid to turn it off manually, but alas, it was all good.

Thank you for the video. It was a reminder for me. I have a K-5II and I had never checked the firmware update to it since I got it. I had version 1.00 and the up dates for it was up to 1.07. Most of the up dates do not affect me directly but better to keep the camera up to date.
No problem mate, I was exactly the same when I first bought my K-70. I think making notes of camera settings & lens AF fine tune settings is a good idea, even though none of mine were effected with the firmware update I suppose it's good practice just to jot them down incase.
The most common problem I've seen re FW update is that people don't put the firmware file in the root of the SD card, it doesn't matter what else is on the card so long as the firmware is in the root of the the card.
I must admit the first time I did a firmware update I had to google what the root folder of the SD card was 😅.

I'm pretty sure you can update to the latest version, I don't see why not?
Thank you for this video. But may i ask you why did you take out the SD card before checking the update on the camera ? Like does the SD card stops functioning? And can it be formated after doing the update?
I'll have to check that! I followed the procedure from the Ricoh Pentax website.
I have my K3 since December 2013 and have never upgraded the firmware. It is still on 1.0. Could not be bothered doing complex operations for next to no gain. The AF is dodgy and will stay dodgy no matter what but the rest works fine. If the camera turns off during updating then the camera will be inoperable and You have to send it in for repair and pay the cost of that. NOPE!
Just make sure you have a fully charged battery, there are benefits to updating the firmware.
Did the update help/change anything with the k3?

If I recall this was not a major update, I think it was the last one for the K3. If it helps my K3 is still firing on all cylinders. 👍
