I was lost in the woods this summer. I set up my hammock and tied it between two trees using reef knots with two drawing loops. Six people suddenly appeared, to tell me I was using the wrong hitch. They couldn't help me out, so I sat down to sharpen my knife on a diamond plate...
@@Robertssurvivalsystems After taking knife sharpening advice from my new friends, I cut a vast clearing and fashioned three pointy sticks. Using the shadows from one stick, I used the two remaining to create a datum line approximating to East-West. Setting my redundant diamond plate (I now have a Tormek 10000K Super) roughly North-South, I bashed it with a mallet I'd also made, thus magnetising the steel base. With help from my knot tying experts and teasing out fibres from my hammock line, Iwas able to fabricate a rudimentary compass. Given the number of crudely carved, discarded kuksa, I presumed I was in a European cold forest, so I headed south. Soon, I was at the Med, eating lobster and drinking pastis in a Marseille pavement cafe.
Great video!! This is a subject that I don't think is talked about enough. I normally put this under the signaling category along as it being used as a trail marker as well. As Cody Lundin often says most realistic survival situations are from the common day hike. I think people should be ready for both this type of situation as well as a more tactical one as well. Just makes sense to me.
You can make a marker then walk out as far as you can in the 4 cardinal directions returning to your center, then if you haven't found your way out expand your circle and repeat.
