    He made some really great points. Mental illness is an issue that we need to understand better. It's real. And it isn't curable by saying "Get over it."

    • @TheMetalhead678
      @TheMetalhead678 6 лет назад +14

      Oh god.. "Get over it", I really hate it when people say that. If we could all just get over it that easily then we'd all be okay by now.

    • @CircleofShit
      @CircleofShit 2 года назад +3

      Mental illness is an invisible cancer, it's always there. It's part of your psyche when you are wired that way. It's like putting a band aid/plaster over a gun shot wound when people say shit like "you will feel better tomorrow, tomorrows another day, get some sleep, see a shrink, take some anti depressants: etc etc. Alot of peoples depression are circumstance based. If you live in perpetual poverty for example, where is the escape from that? That's why people find some solace in music, it's all they have.

    As one struggling with depression it’s so hard when you feel alone, even though you are surrounded by people you can feel completely isolated. Depression is it’s on best friend, it makes you isolate yourself, which only adds to your feeling of being alone and on it feeds. You shut off, you shut out those around you and all that’s left is it’s voice. That voice can be so hard to ignore when you’re by yourself so I urge anyone that’s feeling isolated and alone, go to a friend, a family member, the guy you know at the local music shop, whoever and get a connection. Get out the front door and interact. That is what life is about, connections, those moments you share, whether through a joke, listening to an album, cruising in the car, whatever, just relating to your fellow man. I still struggle but I know there are amazing things in life, one was going to see Seether this year with my brother. Just him and I, sharing a road trip together and then attending a fantastic live show. It’s those moments I live for.

    Suicide is a final solution to the release of the pain. It's also traumatic to live through. I have been on both sides of the coin and I struggle Everyday. I've also lost my husband to this. He was a soul that could walk into the room and light it up. He could put a smile on the face of the saddest man. He seemed confident, happy and well adjusted .... Even though I'd struggled & battled with this problem, I Never saw it coming. In 2009 it Broke My Heart when he committed suicide 😢 . I'm not the same person. I wish I could be at this event.

    Music has really saved me. I lived through so much pain by listening to the lyrics of so many songs particularly rock songs saved me from doing anything sad. Also, caring so much about those who I know care for me. There is so much stigma about mental illness and depression that we are not able to open up to our family friends. Opioid suck. Stay away from pain killers. Killers! Killer pills. And also especially w combo of them w alcohol. Scott Bonham etc that was a long time ago. But yeah today it's way more worse. Yeah music is therapy. It's given me peace.twisted transisrer. Absolutely music heals or at least helps look forward. I love rock and roll. Shinedown yes has been there for me and yes you Seether. So cool man to talk about these things in the open, and I'm grateful Shaun talks about extremely important issues like suicide and depression. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I've ever heard or seen an interview with someone like Jonathan Davis get deep into a conversation about these topics, considering what a harrowing life he has had. Apologies if I've gotten that wrong. If you are reading this and feel in the pits of despair, please reach out to somebody open minded who will listen and UNDERSTAND. Hell, talk to me man, I will talk to you, I have wanted to just switch myself off forever. I've never wanted to die, but I thought being dead would end all my morbid, negative pathological over thinking and the purgatory I find myself trapped in on a daily basis. Take care dudes.

    Suicide sucks. I'm a retired paramedic. All suicide does is move the pain and anguish that person was feeling to the family and friends of that person. Watching families after the discovery is heartbreaking. The confusion, the anger, the profound sadness. I have so many stories in my head that keep me awake at night. We need to stop hiding mental illness. It is truly killing people.

I turned to alcohol and other things.. and I'm still caught in that trap. Just wish I could go back in time really. I've only made shit worse for myself and I'm back feeling the same old bullshit every day. If I was better educated and had more support I think possibly I could have found a better way out. Fuck I love this guy and Seether's cause. He speaks so honestly without bullshit, and his South African flag arm tattoo shows that SAs still has a big effect on him. Hope to see them back soon.

    Always loved Seether & Shaun, he is absolutely right, research & treatment funding. Nobody has ever truly asked me why, & my reasons now are not the same as those when I was younger, now it is solely because euthanasia is not available in the UK, when I was young it was the effects of abuse, which led into the 'usual' addiction, and so on. Nobody asks those who have been there to try & understand it.

    It really saddens me to hear people say they don't know anything about this and it's not to blame them because that is a reflection of our culture, but wow what a different understanding we would have of this if people knew about complex PTSD and actual effective trauma healing methods such as magickal funguus trips. Even mainstream knowledge of things like attachment style science and healthy relationships would go a long way. I think a fantastic start would be calling it what it is, unhealed trauma, not depression, not some thing wrong in the brain (although of course trauma does change brain chemistry and that's why the effect of healing methods change the wiring in your brain such as mushrooms). We have to look at the root cause or we are never going to make progress and I think sadly the systems in place like things exactly how they are and do not want to empower us with the truth and access to the actual medicine.

    Shaun's answer when the interviewer tried to blame suicide and depression on opioids was spot on. Drugs are the coping mechanism, not the origin.

    My uncle came back from Vietnam and killed himself in front of me. My Father had MS and when he got so bad he couldn't eat, he too killed himself. Dealing with the aftermath for the family is difficult. Family blame one another. But yeah, it isn't something that you can know. Demons are real and if you listen to them long enough, they can take you down some dark paths.

    So i’ve been a fan of Seether for awhile (early 2000’s I’d say) & for the longest time I thought the band members were born in the states, until I watched an interview about 4 or 5 years back & heard Shaun speak & was like “wait what!?” 😂
