    My thoughts on the virus shawl pattern. It was one of the first crochet projects I tried so wanted to say that You Can Do It!

    Hi Monique! Hope you and your husband are well and not going too stir crazy! I’m definitely beyond that but still hanging on!
    Your shawl is absolutely gorgeous. The yarn worked up beautifully with the Virus pattern. My first attempt at the Virus shawl (Virus Meets Granny pattern) happens to be a UFO - been sitting for quite some time. Why you ask? It just happens to be one of those projects that I’m not really interested in... a bit difficult and yet more importantly, time consuming. The pattern is not all that forgiving if you make a mistake.
    So, there it sits. One day it will get finished. One day. (Not soon) 🥰
    Take care my friend!!!

      Hi Michelle! We are doing ok. Suffering with allergies here which is awful on it's own but every tickle in the throat, every headache, etc and we have a little mini panic. We are feeling some cabin fever of sorts but are managing. Glad you're hanging in. I suspect this is going to last a good long while. Our Governor just put a stay at home order out yesterday that takes effect today. So after today everyone not essential should be home unless venturing out for food/meds/supplies. Hoping it slows things down. Thanks for the kind words on the shawl, I do love it. I was so pleased with how well the unforgettable worked with the pattern. There were no color transitions that I found jarring which I liked. It is time consuming! I do agree that it isn't he most forgiving and realizing a row or two up that you made an error can feel like a serious bummer considering how many stitches there are per row in some of those repeat rows. If you ever finish you'll have to let me know!

    I've made a Virus POncho and blanket. It's not hard, but you do need to count and know where you are. i used Caron Big Cakes for the blanket and Redheart Ombre for the POncho. I need to try it with a lighter weight yarn. Your looks amazing!

    • @MoniquesMakes
      @MoniquesMakes  4 года назад

      You do have to count, that is very true. Once I got into a rhythm it didnt feel too onerous. It really does lend itsef to so many types of yarn. Thanks!

    It turned out really pretty. I love the color you chose to make it out of. I have 2 skeins of hand dyed fingering weight I want to turn into a virus shawl but I fear I will be playing yarn chicken if I try it because it looks like it would need more than that and I've never made a shawl before

    • @MoniquesMakes
      @MoniquesMakes  3 года назад

      Thank you so much! Oh you should do it! The great thing about this pattern is you can stop whenever you want. I do think it's best to stop on the last of the 4 row repeat but you can gauge how much you have left and stop when you know you won't make it. But honestly, almost every row could be the one you stop on so I'd say go for it! I am actually working on another one because I enjoyed it so much. Just difficult enough that I don't get bored but easy enough that once I got the 4 row repeat, I can watch tv while I crochet.

    Hi, Monique! I made a couple of virus shawls a few years ago. The only instructions available at the time was a RUclips tutorial. I was always a pattern reader, so it was so hard for me. I know so much more now that I’m sure it would be a breeze. I may just give it another try, thanks to you! Yours is gorgeous! I think I used Unforgettable too! 💝

    • @MoniquesMakes
      @MoniquesMakes  4 года назад

      Oh I do love Unforgettable. I could see where it could be tough if you aren't the type of learner that a visual tutorial is ideal for that it would be a challenge! I'd definitely see if you could find a pattern somewhere (many I saw were free) that fits the bill so you could give it a go and see if that improves it or if your increased knowledge is enough to make it a more satisfying process. If you decide to you'll have to let me know how it went and what it looks like!

    • @MoniquesMakes
      @MoniquesMakes  4 года назад

      I meant to ask and completely forgot, are you a pattern reader as in written word or do you prefer the diagrams? I get so confused on the diagrams but would like to figure it out so that any patterns I write I can include both. For some reason my brain doesn't like wrapping around that. When I first started watching youtube videos to try to learn to crochet a year or so ago I found that it was so helpful to have a written pattern to easily refer to so any youtube videos that didn't have a written one available, I sat down and wrote the pattern out shorthand for myself from their videos. It was better than nothing

    • @BlackRibbonStitchStudio
      @BlackRibbonStitchStudio 4 года назад +1

      @@MoniquesMakes A pattern reader as in written word. I still don't get diagrams either. I mean, I get it, but I've never tried. That's exactly what I did with he virus shawl. I wrote down the pattern from the video. 💝

    Hi! Just found your channel! I’m making my first virus shawl right now with Shawl In a Cake by lion brand and I forgot the color because I tore the wrapper off but it’s all blue colors and it’s looking soo pretty right now. So far I’m really having fun with this shawl! At first it was pretty hard to do so I just forgot about it for two days then came back and I understood it!
