If you like cocktails, make alcohol-free versions and enjoy reading on the deck! I used to fix a drink when I got home from work, but I live alone, there are others with alcohol problems in my family, and I thought this is not a healthy pattern! So I would come home, fix my virgin drink, and sit down to unwind. Do you know it was every bit as effective to unwind? It was the ritual I needed! Since then, I have limited myself to drinking alcohol in socially only. So fix yourself a mocktail and get out on that deck!
That's a great idea! Why didn't I think of that?
There's so many good non alcoholic options available these days! I love the Pathfinder faux spirit
I too live alone and have alcoholism in my family background. After my wife passed, I was led down a dangerous path. But good sense and two very caring adult children with love and watchfulness and that path took another direction, but I an still very cautious. Mocktails are a viable alternative. I even have found an alcohol free beer!
@jimflack9462 you are a wise man. It's so normalized and easy to get and such an easy way to turn off the thoughts and anxiety. I am glad I am smartening up before it becomes a problem:)
@@thefrugalcrafter ❤️👍
Love YES paste!!! It has definitely gotten expensive.
Yes! It has!
1. The church. You nailed it! Just perfect. 2. Love the Mohegan Sentinel. Almost looks like colored pencil. Ditto the Conte' sketch. Nice autumn\winter vibe. 3. You are sporting a cool late 1940s vibe. 👍
Thanks 😊
Painting in Italy! Wouldn't that be so much fun? Congrats on the full class. Yes, throwing up is the worst... I try to avoid if possible! haha Have a great weekend. Thanks so much. It's Labor Day weekend here in Canada. Is it a long weekend for you guys also?
It is but hubby has to work on Monday so I probably will too:)
I don't always take the holidays off but I will be this time! 😁
Price gouging? I was going to buy some last year and saw the price. Oh, h*ll no! 🤣 I bought Lineco, but dries super fast. Would wallpaper paste work?
Yes but it dosnt keep
@@thefrugalcrafter
oh, no. I mean the premixed kind.
I have a 32 oz bucket of Roman that seems fine (I’m testing it now). I think that lasts for a long time.
@@heatherhigbee5144 ididnt know it cam premixed, I'd only seen the powder.
@@thefrugalcrafteryeah it’s pretty cool to use for painted papers. I learned about it from Catherine Rains (not sure if I spelled that correctly) here on RUclips. Mine is over a year old, kept in my office/studio where the temps fluctuate from 50s - 90s, and it’s still holding up. I did test it, and my papers adhered well. When I tried to pull it apart, the paper tore and the glue didn’t budge.
" I'd rather buy Pastels than inject Botulism into my forehead " 👍🌹👏👏👏
That's probably the quote of the day and it might be the first time anyone has said that 😆
@@thefrugalcrafter
Best quote I have heard👍
I would agree except that is the only thing helping my migraines.
@@thecraftyrn that is worth it:)
I like art tutorial books, they are great when you don't know what to do, like a watercolor tutorial book and using watercolor markers or pencils instead. Or even acrylics who knows but its fun to try a different supply or just changing it to make it your own
Congrats on a full workshop in Italy! What a beautiful adventure for all attendees.
Hair looks great btw😉
Thank you! 😃
I loved the comment about how you'd rather buy pastels than inject botox. Woman after my own heart! Great Sat Chat as always!
Right?!
I would rather buy rubber or clear stamps & mixed media supplies than inject Botox.
Happy Sat Chat!! So happy that your Italy event sold out, how exciting. Have a great weekend!!
Same to you!
Congrats on selling out your Italy Retreat. If you can afford it, you can go ahead a day or two to get the feel of the area, and then tag on a relax/ unwind time after. There is so much to see in Italy outside of the area you will be staying. There is so much great artwork, history and culture to experience. Have a great long weekend!
Thanks for the tips!
Love the navy polka dot outfit. Very classic and adorable.
Thanks 😊
Happy Saturday! Lindsay never be embarrassed, we adore you so much. We watch you because you are so good at what you do, talented and imaginative and down to earth.
Aww, rhank you:)
Colorful Collage did a test of 10 different glues she uses for collage, including the Yes paste, and it did indeed yellow. I recommend watching her video for some alternative craft glues. I don't think she noticed the yellowing while she was testing, but you can see it on the video (along with some of the other glues). Congratulations on selling out the Italy event!
Thanks!
At 27:59 I thought I heard you say Upchuck Retreat, probably because we’d been talking about barfing earlier… 😂 had to rewind 10 seconds to hear it correctly: Up Trek Retreat 😅
😆 🤣 😂
Omg, I thought so, too!! 😅😅😅
I have an idea… pour water into the wine glass and take it out on the balcony and read or paint. Maybe just using that wine glass will trigger the same relaxing vibes.
Or get some sparkling fruit juice or mix yourself a mocktail.
Great idea!
I knew your Italy retreat would sell out in a hot minute!!! 😄 You
will all have a wonderful adventure! 💜
I wish you were going but I will just need to find an east coast location next!
Loved the part where you said you’d rather buy pastels than inject botulism into your face 😂 That’s the kind of math I can relate to! Whenever I see ads for botox or whatever unnecessary crap they try to sell women over 40, I always think in terms of “I can buy x amount of art supplies with that money” 😂
Exactly!!
Your hairstyle is so cute!! Also totally not surprised you sold out the trip. You are amazing and engaging! (But I understand why you weren’t sure because I go through the same thing 😅 maybe all teachers do?!)
Thank you so much!! I think so. It's scary to pu something big out there I think. You are going to have a blast in France, the location is gorgeous and the hosts are the sweetest couple!
Another great SatChat ❤ Btw, I stopped alcohol consumption completely recently because of empty calories and I can relate because I used to do exact same, have a glass of wine with reading. Since then I have replaced it with different teas, if it’s afternoon and I need caffeine then green tea, if I want caffeine free but a bit peppy version I’ll go for peppermint and if it’s night and I’m almost ready for bed, sleepytime tea. I had my doubts about would it relax my tense mind enough, but they do work great… good for health, wallet and you can freaking drive after having some if you want to 😊🎉
Yes! The empty calories were a factor too.
I always feel crazy because my bed must be made in the morning. This was just a response to your putting on clothes to feel complete in a day.
Sounds like a food habit!
Congratulations on the Italy retreat and I'm so glad you're feeling better. That sounds miserable. Your hair and outfit look great, too. I liked all the videos you put out this past week. Thanks for everything you do. Another great Sat Chat, too!
Thanks 😊
I used Yes paste to cover my first sketchbook covers, I love that stuff. It's super low-moisture compared to other glues so I never have problems with the paper wrinkling or air bubbles. My paste was years old and had turned a tan color but it did not change the performance. Love, love, love my first sketchbook. Thanks again for that video!
Yay! I'm glad you made one!
I'm so sorry you were sick, but I am laughing so hard! Send back those chocolates! Who sent me those!
😆 🤣 😂
Your craft stash collection arrived yesterday. I haven’t unpacked it yet since I don’t have an inch of space on my craft table haha.but hopefully this morning after walking I can make it happen.
You will love Italy by the way
Wonderful! I hope you like it! Thebackgrouds are sonics for adding bits of texture and grunge to projects!
i'm in Italy right now. you will LOVE it!
Thanks 😊 have fun!
When I'm nauseous I have a small trashcan that I use by my bed.
Happy SatChat Lindsay! Yes Life is a moderation game, so live and enjoy it! Kudos on the Italy retreat… yipeee!! Great thistle mixed media tutorial, I loved it, thank you so much for posting it!! 😍 🎉 Have a swell weekend and upcoming week!!🎉💜🤩👍🏾
Thanks, you too!
Interesting… In one chat you talked about a European retreat in Italy - - as well as farting, toilets, & upchucking- classy!
On the other hand, you seem to be very productive if you did all those paintings in one week! Can you hold your paintings up for a little bit longer next Sat Chat? You take them down so fast I don’t have a chance to get to really look , and you do have nice work. (That’s one of the reasons why I am here. ) in fact, i replayed the beginning & tried to hold on ea painting to view them. Haha
Thank You

Travel to Italy in 2025 will be nothing short of a challenge. It is Italy's Jubilee year. Folks should be thinking about flights now. Just a heads up. Have a great time.
Good to know!
Those tickets were like $4600. You have got some seriously rich fans. 😅 I'm not mad, I'm just really jealous!
It is a privilege for sure, I feel privileged to be able to teach at such beautiful venues:)
You might could replace your wine with sparkling water in a special glass to still trigger yourself to wined down and relax. My husband is 2 years sober this month and drinks topo chico sparkling water glass bottles as they feel very similar to a cold beer. They are very crip and lovely to drink if you like fizzy drinks. You can also add lemon, lime or any flavors you like to they. You could even put real fruit (frozen or fresh berries) in the bottom of a champagne glass and pour the water on top and sip away. Nonetheless, I'm happy for you as you choose a healthier lifestyle either way you go about it. My cut back needs to be sweet treats; I just love sugar and chocolate things 😋
Thanks 😊
Wow! This Sat chat was full of info. I’m glad you’re retreat filled up and that you’re back to spunky happy self. Stay well.
Thanks 😊
I have had Covid since Tuesday and my daughter has had it since Thursday. I'm italian so I would love to go to Italy, it's one of the places i would love to go if I had the money. Ireland and Australia.
Both sound great!
Lindsay, try having a new tea or sparkling water for your relaxing time… I’m sure you’ve already thought of that…Pick out something special just for that time. Love Sat Chat…love ALL your videos!❤
Great idea!! I didn't think of that but I lovevthose flavored sellers, I never think to buy them tho!
Hey pretty lady!! You could be the new Rosy the Riveter Model!! I forgot to tell you that you can buy Aquazol from golden now! I got some to mix with some mica powders, I’ll let you know how it goes!!
Cool, thanks!
OMG! Your last sentence was something like....I'll leave a link for the UpTrek Retreat.....but it kind of sounded like....I'll leave a link for the UpChuck Retreat.....which, given your recent digestive issues, was a hilarious sign off......😂
😆 🤣 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Congratulations on the Italy trip being sold out! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!!
I have the same anxiety issues when it comes to dealing with anything to do with healthcare.
It's such a pain, I'm sorry you have that too.
Hope you’re feeling better! Glad to hear you sold out the Italy retreat. I’d have come if I had the money. Maybe next time…
Next time!
hello ,i love seeing your beautiful face every saturday ,love you
Oh thank you!
I enjoyed Sat Chat so much! I would much rather buy art supplies than clothes, so I got a kick out of your comment! Your hair looks great, and a more youthful style, although for sure you really don’t have to worry about that yet!! Have a great week!😉🤗
Oh thank you! You are sweet:)
It's certainly not "dramatic" to stop drinking and therefore stop ingesting a Category 1A Carcinogen (International Agency for Research on Cancer). Mocktails for the win!
I think it's such a part of our cultures that it seems eccentric to abstain.
@@thefrugalcrafter I agree. Alcohol is an unfortunate and very toxic part of our culture. More and more people that I know are abstaining from alcohol for a variety of health related reasons. Not a single one of them has regretted doing so. Perimenopause and menopause are tough enough without adding alcohol to the mix.
Wow, laughed so hard, I thought I was the only person who cleaned the toilet if I thought I might get sick. And if I don’t bonus, no barf and a clean toilet!
Yes!
Same! 😅 And total bonus, ahahaaa!!
I don't know if I missed hearing it, or if he just didn't go last time, but I think it's fantastic that Jason's going with you and you're going to add a vacation on to your Italy trip. I think you should add as much time as you can afford, before or after the workshop, and really enjoy yourselves. From the vantage point of 49 years of marriage, one thing we never did enough of was to travel, just the two of us. (One memorable trip we did do was to travel to Bar Harbor 11 years ago. We had a fantastic time, apart from discovering the hubs gets extremely seasick on our whale watching tour! We went home via Jackson,NH and "did" Mt Washington in our itty bitty Yaris. We both decided we could live there, without a doubt.) So you're both young and healthy and mostly unencumbered with children - get in all those experiences! You will not bemoan that priority when you're retired and less able to do such things, I promise you.
Great advice, especially now the kids are old enough to watch the pets!
Re wheat paste alternative. I use gloss medium (varnish) by Liquitex for my book covers and most gluing situations. If I want extra hold I use gel medium (adhering watercolour paper to wood).
Great tip! I have plenty of that too. I really liked the slow drying aspect of the paste but it's not essential. The ge medium disnt dry too fast.
Congrats on selling out! The Italy 🇮🇹 trip that is 😝 (That would a great clickbait title for this SatChat, ‘I Sold Out’ 😆)
My teen is getting her wisdom teeth out this fall as well, fun times.
Have a great week everyone 🎨
Haha! That would be as funny as last week's title!
Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed it.
So glad!
Happy Sat Chat! You really had your "Marilyn" vibe going this morning! Love it!! Congrats on selling out your Italy trip! People know a good thing when they hear of it! Best wishes to your daughter on her semester abroad. My friend's daughter recently spent a semester in Ireland and said it was wonderful. Such a privilege to be able to study like that. Have a good week!!😊
Thank you, I am very excited for her. She figured it out all herself too which makes me very proud.
That must feel amazing to have your Italy trip sold so quickly. Well done.
It does!
Oooh! Someone else who cuts their own hair!!!
Yup!
@thefrugalcrafter Would you ever do a bang-cutting tutorial the next time you do? I've been wanting to clean up my layers and make side bangs but am too chicken!! I've watched YT tutorials, got hair cutting shears off Amazon, tried a "safe" tiny batch of hair in the back to trim - but I freaked out bc I wanted the cool non-blunt look. Gave up and went to my Great Clips. 😬😱😩😅
I’ve never used the “Yes Paste” but I’ve been working on a collage piece recently and needed something thicker and grabbier than the matte medium I was using so I used the Golden brand “high solid gel” it’s basically modeling paste but with acrylic solids instead of powdered marble, it’s FABULOUS, dries clear, and it definitely sounds cheaper than those new Yes Paste prices
Good to know!
Hey Lindsay, "madhabitz" here -- when this came up before I posted about Grandmother Stover's stikflat glue that is virtually the same stuff as Yes! paste, but it's at those old prices. I paid $9.80 not long before the discussion about it -- now it's up to $11.95 with a 5%-off coupon. Etsy has it for $9.99, and eBay has it for $6.98. As for using it for colllage, the stuff is archival, but save it for bookcloth pasting onto bookboards. Use it in a thin layer.
For what it's worth, a lot of book artists cook up a wheat paste for pasting bookcloth to boards, but you'd want to use PVA (the archivao stuff}, not the white school glue people started calling PVA a few years ago. They are *not* the same thing.
As far as the moldy problem goes.... just make small batches. There are tons of YT videos on how different people do it -- takes only a few minutes to make.
Thanks!
Oh nooo! Im glad you're feeling better! I've totally cleaned the bathroom just in case I barf before 😅 Omg, Don Music from Sesame Street!! 🎵 Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb. Mary had a little lamb. Its fleece was white as- Its fleece was white as- Ohhhhh, I'm never gonna get it! Never! Neverrrr! *head bonk on piano* 🤣🤣🤣 My sister and I still crack up over him!!
Love it!!
Hey Lindsay, Need some advice. Trying to put together Paint Alongs for extra income & something easy to do. Need budget friendly advice for brushes. Thinking maybe two flats, two rounds, and a liner brush for each person. Sets have too many sizes. Will keep canvas to about 11 x 14. Should I get tube paints or liquid acrylic or craft paints which would be less expensive? Do I need table easels or can we use a rolled towel or tube to prop the little canvases on?
Would probably need this for maybe 12 to 15 people. Thanks! Lesley from Boynton Beach, Florida 😊
I think it would depend on how often you will do it. I know Michael's has bulk acrylics, canvasses and easels for paint parties. I'd check that first. I'd probably get 1/2 gallon bottles with pumps for paint. The Blickcrylic was always good. They sell a pack of pints if you aren't sure if you will use so much: shrsl.com/4nskt
Brush choice sounds fine. Blick also has the zen all media brushes which hold up well.
Hullo Lindsay, I believe that you as well as everyone else going to Italy 🇮🇹 will be having a wonderful time! You are truly inspirational and I can see how quickly your trip sold out! I have no plans to leave my home for any other country ever again! I enjoyed watching your feature’s videos from your France trip! I have hopes to go to an art retreat in the southwest like Arizona? I have seen a few videos on locations in upstate New York! That is so close to where you live it might not seem like a big deal to you? I do enjoy watching SatChat, I have seen your blue and white polka-dot dress before and the hair accessory is truly lovely! Thank you for sharing all of your thoughts, I gotta comment (as so many others have) on buying art supplies over paying for medical procedures to create a differing illusion of one’s self! You young lady are truly lovely just as you are! Thank you for sharing another wonderful SatChat with us all! OH! I have stopped using most glues on my artworks, the one exception is that glue we use for book binding it is ph neutral and dries clear! Ah PVA Glue!
Thanks so much! Yes, I'd love to do a retreat in New England or New York. I'm not sure how I'd fare in the southwest tho because I'm not used to so much dry heat.
Never tried Yes paste but I have tried Nori paste which is a tapioca starch paste. It is readily available at least here in the UK from art supply, bookbinding supply or printmaking supply shops (It can also be used for woodblock printing).
Another option is Methylcellulose. It makes a very repositionable paste but isn't the strongest adhesive on its own. It is often used by bookbinders in a mix with PVA glue to give a longer time to reposition/ adjust bookcloth or endpapers etc with the strength of the PVA.
Good to know 😌
Lindsay your art work is beautiful!!! All the best to your daughter. good chat enjoy it! Thank you for Sharing hugs Liz x
Thank you so much!
Congrats that your Italy class filled quickly! Does not surprise me at all! I used to use Yes Glue years ago. And it was much cheaper then. $10 for the large size at my then local stamping store. I just looked online and it is ridiculously expensive. I saw one price at $39 for the large size. I haven't used it in years, but it's definitely time to find another option that is more affordable.
Oh wow!
I am glad you feel better. I enjoy your sense of humor. I hate barfing too. I have not been sick like that since 2011. That happens to me when I have an allergic reaction. It's knowing you are going to do it that makes it a nightmare! Lol. May you have a very healthy Fall and Winter. Take care! Have a nice weekend !❤😊
Thanks, you too!
When you were talking about making your own paste and mold It came to mind that I make my own spray starch with flour and or potato or rice starch and it's called hooch spray because you add vodke or 91% rubbing alcohol to prevent it molding. I've had it under my kitchen sink for months at a time and no mold, Maybe that would work with homemade paste.
Intersting
Lovely chat, your bangs looked great. Wow go Lindsay all sold know there is yummy pasta in your future, aww goat is a dish in Italy that is supper yummo um I know your not a meat eater but maybe hubby would like to try also very low in fat. Gosh so much going on in one week lol yes don’t send me any of this chocolates! Ok question what are the little um popsicle bat objects on the ground in the critique painting? Um sure they are life vest of some sort. Have a wonderful week and stay safe. Watched with the sun streaming through the window lovely you started to say good bye sun gone and nuts dark grey skies, darn I was wanting to hit the river today and check out how people are doing white baiting note I am not going as well rivers in flood way to dangerous for this girl.
Those are lobster bouys in the painting. They are tied to traps in the water and they float so fishermen can find their traps.
Congratulations Lindsay on your workshop being sold out. One day I will be able to join too.
I hope so too!
Four Keys bookbinding is a RUclips channel and I think he has a video on making the wheat paste that he uses all the time.
Thanks!
I love how 1940s retro you look with the polka dots, red lip, and the hair! 😊
Oh thank you!
How wonderful that your Italy retreat sold out so quickly! I am so happy for you! I also still have doubts about whether people want what I make or if it is a fluke. I did so well on my Ginger Treasure Box and am just about ready to release the next box - a Halloween one called "Critter Coven". It has taken two months to create and write the 17 patterns and get the stuff for the kits ready, so I really feared that no one would want it. So much work! (So much RISK!) But I mentioned in passing that it was up for pre-order on my site and it has done well already - and I haven't even done the official release yet. So I was encouraged and pleasantly surprised and it keeps me moving forward. Do we ever develop confidence in ourselves? I mean - I have 'some' but I still fear every time I do something new. I was so happy to see your title today.
It's imposter syndrome and I feel it every time I launch a class or Product. I think it's natural. If you didn't feel it then it would mean you didn't care about what you do.
@@thefrugalcrafter I must care a LOT then! I get knots in my tummy every time - sometimes for weeks before I release things.
@@SheilaLandry I'm having a mini panic attack now because I have new sketchbook floozy templates coming out on the 12th that I need to make videos for!
@@thefrugalcrafter Aww - I know they will do well. I will share them with my people too.
So glad your Italy trip is sold out. I like your hair shorter. It makes you younger I think.
Thank you so much!
Can you do a video on the business side of this trip related to expenses, pricing and attending as a student and what may be recorded as student expenses
I didn't handle the logistics, uptrek books the property, hires the cooks and procures the supplies I need. They pay me a fee to teach and out if that I pay my own travel expenses. The cost to students to attend can range from 4k-6k plus travel expenses which will vary for everyone. Hope that helps.
@thefrugalcrafter
I guess I am asking for logistics on the business side of what you do since you have been in business with valued years of experience. In general as well when you take a class or travel for retreats how is it handled in your business. This may be too intrusive or not content you may wish to cover. Take care and thank you.
Congratulations on selling out your Italy retreat! That's wonderful!
Thank you so much!
lol, Sat Chat is like a box of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans! That golden brown bean could be a nice toffee or, “Alas! Eat wax!”
If you don’t want alcohol, what about a mocktail or just a special drink that’s non-alcoholic? I like to add a splash of grape juice or crab-grape to seltzer water for something tasty that feels special.
I’m glad you’re feeling better!
Haha! That's the perfect tagline!

My pleasure!
I’ve heard Nori paste is a good one to try.
Thanks 😊
Thanks Lindsay! ❤
You are so welcome!
Girl, you rule❤
Thanks 😊
Did you ever look into the organic wine?
No, it's the alcohol that's the carcinogen although the pesticides probably don't help.
@thefrugalcrafter I see, ya I was thinking it was because of the pesticides. Good to know. Of course I have not drank in years because of medication so I didn't dig too deep.
Your Italy trip sounds amazing. If my situation was different I would have jumped on that opportunity both last time and this one as well.
I just KNOW that everyone is going to have a wonderful time!
I hope so too!
Nori paste is nice too and also a starch paste. It's probably just a thinned Yes Paste, but I think Yes Paste needs to get over itself. I can only stand so much Ye$$$$. Glad your retreat filled up.
Haha, well said!
OK, you made me laugh over barf and toilet cleaning. Lucky I wasn’t eating at that time.
You have to find the humor in situations like this 😆
