      I only have about 40 plants, but I'd be happy to show you. The greenhouse has plants belonging to many people, and the nursery has tons of plants for sale.

    Ah, Rothschild's slipper. The rarest orchid on Earth, and thus the most expensive. It's only found in one place, a particular mountain in Borneo. It can take up to 15 years to bloom. All that time, perfecting itself. A lifetime for six perfect flowers.

    The judging on the appletonianum may not have been great but the feedback was useful... if I remember what you said correctly.

      Certainly. Both its parents were awarded, so perhaps it's just a matter of time.

    Hi, do you have a store? Also I just purchased a very pricey recently from a shop not to far from me. It is in bloom, and has two flowers on its spike, the third bud doesn't look too happy but I think it is because obviously my conditions at home are very different from where it was grown. Do you have any tips, things to be wary of. I'm nervous about it because its my first one and it wasn't cheap!
    Thank you for your content!!!

    goodmorning..i noticed a lot of color difference in your catt rex seedlings? any idea why?

    • @MyGreenPets
      @MyGreenPets  5 лет назад +1

      It was explained to me that varying amounts of red pigment in each seedling can be seen in the leaves, and could indicate how much color the flowers will have. Other leaves have patches of yellow, and im not sure why. I think that condition is called chlorosis, and it is possibly due to cultural conditions.

    Don't Orchids get crown rot,by automatic watering system??

    • @j.d.8075
      @j.d.8075 5 лет назад

      Mine don't... but I am tropical Aus, grow outdoors [so lots of air flow] and have plenty of heat... crown rot only develops if the crown stays wet and somewhat cold... if you can get it to dry pretty quickly afterwards then it isn't an issue, hence the need for good air flow.

    • @MyGreenPets
      @MyGreenPets  5 лет назад

      I had an issue with my Catasetinae in autumn. Crowns were turning black because water was sitting in there, like you said. I will have to watch them this year very carefully. I don't like the automatic watering, but i don't have a choice if i want to keep my plants at this greenhouse.

      @@MyGreenPets perhaps tip the pots up... may need to use a wedge to hold it in place... so they get some water but it can also run out...

    I have a love / hate relationship with those little snails. Cute little peaceful things. They tend to only dine on my moth type orchids and feast on my Christmas cactus but not my Thanksgiving or Easter cactus. I can't bear to kill 'em.

    Growing orchid can be disappointing! It is like buying a lottery, we do not know what we got. After many years of growing a roth and it bloomed like that is really disappointing.

    • @MyGreenPets

      I would just be happy it bloomed, haha

    • @rothschildianum

      My Green Pets I am not a risk taker, I just bought mericlones or proven divisions, for I do not have a lot of time or do not want to be disappointed. I am more into growing plants, instead of the suspense of waiting for one of a kind orchid.
