  • Please go through the candid interview of Mr. Ramesh Mamidala, Hon. Secretary - ACFI and Head - Cargo Commercial, Air India, covered at ACFI Annual Conclave 2023.
In the interview, Mr. Mamidala recalled the year 2012 where the founding members of ACFI came together to create an association that could take up the issues of the air cargo industry with Govt, trade bodies and regulators etc.
He commented how the forum is an integrated body for stakeholders of the supply chain, to push policy advocacy and take forth the interest of all stakeholders collectively. He threw light during the conversation on how many policies and processes have been proposed for amendment from ACFI's side to the Govt authorities, be it customs related, security related issues etc. The trans-shipment related matters have to be changed, from both security and Customs related standpoint, and this could lead to increase of air cargo volumes, highlighted Mr. Mamidala.
Mr. Mamidala also shared that ACFI has taken up some strategic issues with MoCA, especially the D2D policy on trans-shipment. Another issue that ACFI is pushing forward with the Govt is the creation of Free Trade Zones that will lead to more Air Cargo, stated Mr. Mamidala.
Further Mr. Mamidala commented that when it comes to domestic air cargo movement, ACFI is supporting the promotion of multi-modal movement. In addition, the policy advocacy on which ACFI is focusing is developing proper infrastructure, maintaining regulatory norms, as well as following service levels and standard procedures in cargo movements at airports of Tier 2 & Tier 3 cities, he said.
