I'm just here because of a C-Span clip about Acting Labor Secretary not being able to like an idiot. How TF does a pro get to talk like that? How do I get a job like that? Actually don't tell me. If I was that useless I would feel so horrible I would want to pepsi hamburger time.

We need to create an app like unemployment but from donations on the ground.. In my city of Tampa Florida the homelessness rate is 57 per 10,000 residents I figure each household is around four people so that's 57 per 2,500 workers.. If each worker donates 25 dollars per month is 62,500 dollars per month per 57 people 0r 1,096 dollars per month each.. let's work hard, automate, be adults, and have funds!!

And Joe just walks away from tough questions.
Doesn't matter the political party, our government representatives really don't represent but only their own agendas

After seeing the snippet from TT that makes the secretary look incompetent, now coming here to see the full line of questioning I realize its the congresswoman that is incompetent. She doesn’t allow her to answer a single question, cuts her off, and is disrespectful. 1099 misclassification is an issue and the new rules are necessary. The salon industry is one example of where misclassification and double dipping is normalized and unethical. That’s been solved in California salons.

Companies love hiring 1099 but treating contractors as employees without having to pay their share in taxes and benefits, and have control over their contractors because the general public is illinformed about what the designation entails.

      The conversation in question: 1:48:51.
The congresswoman allows the secretary to answer. She is very clear about what she asks and the answer to her question should be equally simple. The secretary, on the other hand, refuses to say either yes, no, I don't know.
I am not very familiar with the American law, yet I am currently studying it as I aim to work in US as an employee. However, I believe as a Secretary of Labor who represents her department, she cannot invoke the 5th amendment. So, there are no other possible answers to this question. Question is not "Is owning a business related to your job?", "How can you explain your qualifications if you have not owned a business in the past?" or "Are you someone's daughter?" Which concludes she cannot answer a simple question either because she is unable to process the information or to not answer the question while appearing doing so. The congresswoman, at least, shows good intention by assuming the former.
At this point, the misclassification of employees as independent contractors being a real issue or not is not the point. The point is that problem, independent of its severity, cannot be solved by equating the contractors to employees. Believing in capitalism or owning a business gains a person the perspective that this mistake would be detrimental to both classes of laborers. The simple incapability of the Secretary of Labor is not actually whether she has owned a business or not. It is that she is unable to foresee the consequences of these legislations let alone answering decently to a simple question. That shows she is unqualified for her job even if she meant well. Which anyone has no reason to assume she did.
If I'm wrong, I would be happy to be corrected in my reasoning.

Did you miss the part where senator undoubtedly proved department of labor doesn’t care to protect people at work? This woman who never owned a business knows nothing about labor. Like a food critic with no sense of taste.

Each Senator is only allowed a time frame with Su. They need to Su to directly answer a question, not waste time with additional, unnecessary fluff words.

I agree with Julie on the 1099 contractor employee situation I know its often its a scam to pay people less than the employee/contractor is worth paying less than they pay their employee's doing the exact same job.

If everything were sold for what it was worth nobody would ever make a profit. You have absolutely zero understanding of economics in capitalism.

Yeah workforce programs need money but also better associated orgs so Americans arent left behind.. For example companies like Eckerd Connects seemed more like a scam to fill their pockets instead of Americans with jobs. Even their reviews say the same so better choices of contractors orgs seem essential.
