I'm glad you bought this boat. I fell in love with it during this video, but I hope you get the engines figured out.
I've never heard any 454s that sound like wives gabbing over 1500rpm?
    Weird?

It's probably the transmissions. They whine a lot.

Those 454s sound absolutely awesome, but I wouldn't run at WOT for that long

Hey there Max. You still own the boat? How are you enjoying it? I ended up purchasing a totally different boat after thinking real hard about the type of boat we needed for what we do. I found a killer deal on a Chris Craft Launch 28 Heritage Edition out of Michigan. After a long wait with surveys and repairs, I finally bought the boat about a year ago.
I still love your Tiara though.......I think thats my next boat.
Just wanted to stop by and say hi and see how the boat was treating you!

Sounds best at 3000- 3200 rpm, that seems to be the sweet spot. Above that it sounds like it's being pushed too hard.

Had a 29 with twin Mercruiser 5.7, 6 lt of gasoline per mile. Much better a diesel-equiped boat. Running with a 32 powered with twin Cummins was cheaper, faster and more reliable.

Who did you use to survey your boat? I may need to get a survey done in Newport Beach in a couple weeks

Our guy was a friend and did a pretty thorough job, but ultimately missed the underwater lights burning through the hull. I've heard Bunker Hill as the best guy to find everything for buyers. We had Bob Scott do our mechanical survey, who did a good job.

Ouch! that seems like a big miss. how did that turn out for you in the end? Where the holes not sealed properly, or were they just that hot under water?
I am looking at a 2900 and 3100 next week.
did you end up buying the boat? what are your thoughts? love it?

The lights were not grounded. We had our new diver freak out on our first cleaning. After working in yards growing up, I always treat a freak out with a little healthy skepticism until I inspect personally. He was totally right, the screws holding them in were all but completely disintegrated and you could see the marks on the hull. Luckily we had to do the bottom anyway, and just expedited the process. We ended up replacing them with Lumitec SeaBlazeX multi color lights. Most rewarding investment yet.
Awesome to hear...both are great options. Yup we ended up buying this one and absolutely love it, aside from the fuel consumption...but that's the story with any gas-powered boat.
We looked at a totally horrible 3100 right before this 2900, which was almost immaculate with only a $10K price gap. For us it was an obvious choice for those reasons, but we've come to like the decision even more. We were coming out of a 23' center console and loved the ability to blast, bay cruise, pull into the bars etc... The 3100 is about 1' wider, which doesn't seem like a lot, but the 2900 just gets under the radar and fits a lot more places. We also had a slip with a max beam of 12', so the 3100 would have been pretty snug.
I wasn't convinced with the L-shaped settee at first, but it's the way to go. So much more versatile and the cockpit feels a little more roomy on the 2900. If you look much earlier than '95, the 3100's came with that bimini that tacked straight to the windshield, which is IMO ugly AF and didn't allow me to stand up at the helm comfortably at 6'7". The 29's all come with that little pop up at the windshield that gives me the headroom I need and makes everything feel bigger.
Down below, I'm pretty sure the 3100 would be more comfy for long weekends, but we've had great weekends on ours. We're in our late 20's, nobody's married, has kids etc. I was shocked we could sleep 4 surprisingly comfortably. The mornings are always the best because the hatch that covers the back of the dinette makes the perfect shelf for a TV or laptop. Surround sound, mimosas, movies and breakfast in bed has all four of us cracking up together with just enough division to not be all over each other. I don't think we could do that in the 3100, since stuff is a little more separated with that bulkhead.
For kids, standoffish people, couples and parents trips etc...the 3100 would probably work better.
We paid $32K and were just offered $50K without listing. We thought about it hard, but honestly couldn't see having a better boat for the money. We really don't have a single regret. When you're buying either of those Tiaras, they really have the build quality, style and the performance to be proud of when disembarking on the shore boat.

    how dependable are these boats?

    • @craigallan8667
      @craigallan8667 2 года назад +2

The boats (structure) is very dependable. Good strong, well behaved hulls. Crusader engines and all other components depend on how often and well you service them. These engines built in the 90s can still be very strong runners if taken care of.
