Woah.....I'm really at a loss for words. Solar's vocals were ethereal, and her dancing...well, her hard work shows, I can say that much. Her movements are fluid, but sharp and strong when needed. But her aura...she really isn't Solar while performing this. So proud of her ❤️ Of course, the poses taken from Indian classical dancing aren't perfectly executed, but I'll be more surprised if they were. Classical dancing takes *years* of single-minded dedication, determination, patience and practice, that can never be achieved by anyone in a couple of months
Exactly, the mudras are perfect for a person learning for just 2 months, because it actually takes ages. So, I don't have any unsettlements. Mata hari learned the dance from Malaysian culture & mixed it with her dances, maybe they've the similar culture as us. I mean bharatvarsh, was very vast & the southern Indian kings expanded their empire greatly towards Vietnam, Indonesia, and southern belt. We know, Shri Ram's is worshiped in all these countries so maybe Bhagwan Shiv as well(?) Hence the Natraj mudras...(?) What do you think. [Actually, I was worried after I read a cmnt yst, trying to blame solar for disrespecting our culture. They were saying she's belly dancing in front of a temple 😅 so I just wanted more opinions, you're the only Indian moo Ik:) ]
@@mymusemamamoo According to Wikipedia, Mata Hari learned the dancing style during her stay at the eastern part of the Java island. She studied Indonesian culture, and her stage name appearantly comes from the local malay language. I won't guarantee the accuracy of the information because I haven't read any books or articles on her. Also, the South Indian 'Chola' kings actually raided some south-east Asian islands and conquered them with their powerful navies. As usual, they implemented their own religion and culture(aka Hinduism and south Indian Hindu culture) in the local population. This is how Ramayana, Mahabharata and other Indian puranas got introduced in those parts and spread to the surrounding regions as well. Over the centuries, these stories took on new forms with descriptions of Ramayana unique to these regions(these differ from the Ramayana we know by a bit). They even perform the stories of Ramayana with colourful costumes, singing and dancing, which is(/was until colonisation) extremely popular among them. The article I read about this topic was only about Ramayana and its diverse re-tellings in south-east Asian countries, so I don't know much about how Lord Shiva is seen there. But I guess it'd be pretty similar for almost all of our puranas. So that's where the cultural similarity comes from. They were basically made to accept this new culture, so as it often happens in history, they accepted it and then did their own thing with it. What is 'cmnt yst' btw? Well, that someone probably didn't know or missed the whole point that Solar is playing a character, so she's not exactly doing her own thing here, just portraying someone else

solar did i so beautifully!! can someone tell me the concept of mata hari, is it indian-inspired musical theme? coz the hand gestures, outfits and the dance have the similar vibe to indian/arabic dances
It's probably supposed to replicate the 'exotic dancing theme' popular back in the early 20th century in the west. As an Indian, from what I see in this performance, if this is a correct replication, this is an equivalent to using Indian classical music and dancing elements as aesthetics. Not to mention this has arabic/middle-eastern music and dancing styles mixed with it, instead of purely Indian classical music and dancing elements. There's probably some other types of dance elements as well, but I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to dancing. This concept(not the musical, the concept of this 'exotic theme') is appropriation, because classical music and dancing is akin to worshipping to the artists who devote their lives to it. The poses and hand movements ('mudra') all have special(at times, sacred) significance. The pose where Solar stands on one leg with the other lifted towards her bent hands(the pose starting at 3:28) is the 'Nataraja' pose of Lord Shiva, which is said to be done by him during/after doing the 'tandav nritya'(literally 'dance of destruction'), which brings about the destruction of the world('pralaya'). So, using these movements in a provocative way would be considered disrespectful. I can't provide much more details because I am not trained in classical dancing
