- Meet the Dread! Destiny 2's latest enemy. These new foes are infused with Darkness and Pyramid Technology thanks to The Witness, their dark master. Within the Pale Heart of the Traveller they have been waiting. You've fought their tormentors before, but now you'll need to face them in force. Including the Grim, Husks, Geists, Attendants, Weavers, Tormentors and Subjugators.

I’m glad Bungie is APPARENTLY learning from past mistakes and going crazy with Final Shape. Now to wait and see what is and isn’t true, and how they actually handle issues that pop up

I’m hoping we get a final/third darkness subclass after Final Shape, and maybe new Darkness Super. Think about it, this expansion shows there’s so much more about Light and Dark we don’t know. Maybe Osiris could even “rekindle” his Light to become a Guardian again? Maybe we’ll see other Guardian legends, like the Iron Lords, Sunbreakers, Wei Ning, Eriana-3, and others within the Traveler? Like a, Vallhala type realm?

@garrettviewegh9028 unfortunately, the latter half I double would ever come to fruition without some sort of risk. We learned in a lore tab about how Cayde comes back and it isn't due to a Valhalla or even Traveler memory sort of thing.
The Dread are so fucking cool, I love the weird mathematical look to all their bits and pieces
Almost like they’re completely synthetic, like someone constructing something out of random bits and pieces of junk laying around.
And yet, somehow, it not only works, but looks good too.
Makes sense because the witness likes to slice things up and put things back together all weird looking

I have a theory: they're the other half of the Taken.
When you get taken, a large part is stripped away.
What if the witness has gathered those removed parts, and given them new purpose?

I think The Dread are the actual true form of taking. I can't remember where it came from but it is said that Oryx did not learn the actual way to take but instead a different version or something along those lines.
@@thundergod9696 his version of Taking is basically "open a portal and throw something into the heart of the Darkness where whatever mysterious thing is there does stuff to it"
So he had the power to take, in that he could open the portals, but perhaps not the actual process that came after.
Bear in mind that there seems to have been a change in the lore about what exactly the Darkness is / how it works since TTK. I'm pretty sure the Witness did not exist back then.

Why this battle between Light and Dark has been going on for an eternity now. In the war between the two it's only ever been Followers of the Light VS Disciples of the Dark. Only ever using their respective abilities. The reason why we as Guardians will not fail like all those who came before us is because we have chosen to walk the path that has never been walked before. Using both Light and Darkness, and Prism will be the Final form of all our abilities coming together to put an end to this war once and for all.
We can only hope. I honestly hope we lose because it would make for an interesting turn of events 🤷

I think the Witness just forcefully imbued them with the powers of Darkness. They would've done the job themselves had they gotten Strand the way we did.
I'm convinced that the Grim is based off of the missing disciple I mean it's too unique of a design to just make up and looking at the dread they are all based off of or reshaped from the memory of something else subjugators are like Rhulk Tormentors are like Nezarec weavers and attendants are like Psions and Hisks are like Hive the a larger bulkier version of the grim is hopefully in the raid

That 4th race is the witness, at the time dread didn’t exist

Why do they have Strand? It was explicitly supposed to be a guardian-exclusive original darkness power, a uniquely Guardian innovation no one else has seen. They could've just had more yellow psychic resonance for the Dread.
It was a guardian, witness made em mad from nesarec and now they serve....I have no idea
The Witness wasn't aware of it before, but now it is. It wasn't like we summoned it ourselves somewhere, we just found a rift of it and stuck our hand in.
If the traveler refused rhulk of a ghost, then it must have good reasons why savathun got one.
No idea how well (or poorly) this might line up with any established lore on the matter, but imagine if the traveler conspired with Savathun in order to have certain key events play out (like her hiding the veil, or teaching guardians how to breach the portal, maybe even to force a change in perspective from the whole "light=good, dark=evil" thing). Ultimately I imagine Savathun may have omitted some details of her plans in order to leave the traveler more trusting of her
We don't actually know if the Traveler has any control over what Ghosts are linked to.
Rhulk was trying to dissect the poor little guy and literally rip his Light out :(

All the enemies have been using arc solar and void in their weapons for forever lmao.
I find it interesting that the Dread uses Void alongside Stasis and Strand. I wonder why that is...
They use solar too. Though? I don’t remember arc but doesn’t every faction have one element they don’t use
It's probably because The Psions are able to use Void energy, which they can without the Travellers light.
Nezarec, The Final God of Pain is actually from the Psion race. He went through some shit, and met the Witness eventually. Witness made him into his disciple, and from that point on all the other Psions fear Nezarec who was previously a normal Psion.
By the looks of it, Witness made the Tormentors based on Nezarec, so the Witness probably used Nezarec's genetic code to create the Tormentors and maybe eventually The Dread. That's why Nezarec and Tormentors can use Void.

@@hithere5553 Correction: He had immense "psionic abilities" and later on was transformed by the Witness when making him a disciple.
Currently his species is unknown, but I made the mistake of thinking of him previously as a former Psion. My bad. But he was being worshipped by Pre-cabal Psions as a higher being. And even now a cult of Psions give offering in Nezarec's name.
@@shatterpoint23 Nezarec originally had a human body tho, in the season of Plunder a cutscene. Only 2 Tormentors are called Imprint while the others are called “Cavuum” which means something different.
Nezarec may at least be possessing them, based on Cenotaph Mask lore and used the body of one to latch his head onto but Tormentors and Nezarec are most likely different

Is it just me or do the new subjugators share a dastardly resemblance to Ruhlk? I wonder if after Rulhk’s failures being that as far as as we know in law that he was the witnesses first disciple, did the witness maybe just cast him the side and make better replacements? Things that were more obedient and easier to control. Rather than being free will bearing, maybe the dread are more like taken, but instead of being hollowed out and thrown to the fire, maybe instead they are just physically filled to the brim with darkness. They’re so full of darkness that maybe they have just become darkness. So an inverse taken maybe? Either way they look deadly and I’m excited. 😆
I think the Dread are basicaly a collection of species that the Witness has conquered before, they are like clones of some sort.
@@jadenyuki2031 that makes sense! That may be why the subjugators resemble Ruhlk to a degree. And i think there was one that kinda looks like a psion too. Which would make sense if he swayed calaus and his shadow legion.

@@jadenyuki2031 oh yeah, no I definitely see the resemblance lol. Actually the funny thing about Nezzarec. He is actually a sub species of the krill people. For context, the krill people. Or what was left of the krill people, became what is currently known today as the hive. I don’t think Nezzie was one of the helium drinkers from the other side of fundament, but actually one of the species that inhabited its moons. Similar to how asah is not just the leviathan of Titan, but also one of the worm gods. Asahs species is actually the worm God prior to their corruption from Rulhk and the witness actually look like. Nezzie, actually resembles the softshell Crustacean species of the krill people were said to have inhabited one of the moons of fundament. This species of softshell crustacean people actually had the ability to shape shift into other species. Which explains why Nazzies guns look the way they do. As Active camouflage is a very common self-defense mechanism that is inherently octopi. 🐙

Tormentors, Subjugators, and Grim are prob Golems made by the Precursors/Witness to do work. Judging the Cenotaph Mask lore, it can be assumed these guys are piloted by Pyramid spirits.
The Tormentors came first not Nezarec.
Aren’t the tormentors a manifestation of nezzy’s power? Which is why he has those imprints of his torment too. He is the torment itself.
@@CRCADAN Only 2 tormentors in the Lightfall expansion are called Imprint of Nezarec while many of the others found in RoN are called “Cavuum”, which is Latin for “Hole”. Holes of Nezarec don’t paint the same picture as Imprint of Nezarec.
It can be thought that Nezarec is possessing these Tormentors as the ones who bear his name appear in places where Nezarec’s consciousness is waking or active and trying to influence the area like Hypernet Current or RoN 1st encounter as his head is encased in that area.
Nezarec did come first though, with Tormentors being made in his image. Though, I will give you credit since Nezarec has been broken down and killed so damn much that Tormentors might as well predate him with the amount of times he's came back to life only to die again.

Geist is the enemy that flies at you after you kill the Husk. It's not a Ghost.

If you have done Vow Of The Disciple raid, you would have noticed the small flying worms from The Caretaker's back. The Geist look and work like those flying worms.

yup
The only two other post-vanilla d1 races were Taken (reskins with slight reworks) and scorn (Technically reskinned fallen but with entirely different fighting styles)

I genuinely didnt know strand was supposed to be a darkness subclass until this post. I played through the campaign on all 3 classes and they did such a poor job of explaining what the subclass even was that i thought it was like neither light or dark.
Like it makes sense with hindsight with the whole like binding enemies, its very much the same vibes as freezing them with stasis, but if they ever explained it in the campaign I must've missed it... 3 times.
Definitely a you problem cuz it does get mentioned, lol. Even got advertised as such in trailers leading up to LF. There's also the fact that it's grouped with Stasis in the menu and turns the background a darker shade when chosen (just like Stasis).
On Neptune in the room Osiris hung out in, did you ever observe the canisters with the elements in them? I'd suggest doin that if you wanna learn a bit about the powers of each subclass.
Fighting a tormenter is like a 5 year old playing one of their fight games outside. *gets very obviously hit* "nuh uh, I'm immune" *does whatever they do* "I got you see! I did! I did!" *they didn't*

Do cabal gladiators spawn smaller enemies on death? Is Rhulk not a literal raid boss? Do Psions actually inflict status effects on you?
I’m more interested as to what the new exotic weapon(s) are gonna be if there is any but yeah I can’t wait to want to punch my monitor fighting the dread
They said there will be the Khovostov, a "Golden Gun" Sniper, and a trace rifle that they said would do stuff similar to the travellers beam in LFs opening cutscene

Too little, too late. These should've shipped with the pyramids years ago, but instead they just copy pasted the same enemies we've been fighting for a decade since the dawn of Destiny 1. No, purple cabal don't count either. The way Bungie handled the black fleet and the darkness in general after years of build up has got to be one of the most tragic things in gaming in my opinion, and it's kind of depressing to think about what could have been.

The only way this would've been fitting is if the Dread were released alongside Beyond Light, which would then completely throw Eramis and Mithrax's entire story out the window. It makes more sense for them to be released now since it's the Witness effectively throwing everything it has at its disposal against us in an attempt to stop us. The only way your way of thought would make sense is if we skipped Beyond Light, Witch Queen, and Lightfall and started The Final Shape right after Season of Arrivals, which again, wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

Beyond Light is THE supposed pyramid expansion, it would make COMPLETE sense to add in the pyramid race during that time. I don't see why Eramis and Mithrax have to go, you can still fit them in with the dread also in the expansion. They could've also seamlessly added it during Witch Queen when we enter pyramids, like we do in the PYRAMID THEMED raid that expansion? And they have absolutely no excuse for lightfall. The purple cabal representing the witness is just embarrassing.
Spoiler alert: they have two purposes. One purpose to serve the witness and the second purpose is to get their dreaded cheeks clapped by millions of guardians lol
