"Freya" Spiers, world class Counter-Strike desk host, is the star of the 382nd Episode of 'Reflections'. This episode is part one of two about Freya's career.
Freya is proof the cream really does rise to the top. Starting out as a fan making content with her boyfriend for their side Topmid.gg early access to events allowed her to show her skills as an interviewer.
Her moment to break into the broadcast side came upon entering a community competition run by FACEIT. While she didn't win it they decided to use her for some events and soon enough that had parlayed into incredibly getting to be an interviewer on stage at the FACEIT London Majoer in 2018!
Freya would work with Dreamhack Open and eventually FLASHPOINT but it was during the online years her next evolution would occur. While other events were entirely online and remote Freya travelled to Copenhagen to participate in BLAST's in-studio broadcast with Maniac and Pimp, two of her most well known colleagues now. That helped establish her as truly tier one at her role and she has rarely looked back since.
The biggest events in Counter-Strike either feature Freya or draw conspicuous attention for not doing so.
In part one, Freya talks about the family background that led her into gaming, being a fan of EnVyUs early on, why she didn't win the FACEIT community competition, working with Maniac and Pimp and what FLASHPOINT was like for her.

Every time I see Freya outside a broadcast she's always so insightful and knows so much about the game. She really loves CS and while it does shine through in the broadcasts I think alot of fans perceive her as just a pretty face without alot of knowledge. Fortunately fans are dead wrong.
This is why flashpoint was so good, it let the talent shine and the audience see this side of them. I wish the community supported it despite the weaker teams as it would have only gotten better.
It's not that people don't think she can be knowledgeable ,it's just that realistically in this industry , that's not her and people like her's most valuable asset ,if you know what I mean.

@@Cashmoneez Well, it's more accurate to look at it from a competition perspective. You can find 100 guys who can match or exceed her analytical skills relatively easily. So, the question is what is she realistically bringing to the table that those 100 guys can't, to land the job? the answer is obvious
@@GraspingsquareTVWhile I enjoyed Flashpoint, I feel it is pretty unrealistic to ask fans to invest sooo much of their time into a league where the teams they watch don't even represent the best the game had to offer. Granted, some of the top teams snaked the league (as per reports) so I'd blame them for this more than I'd blame the fans.

Freya is literally the Goat on the desk. Like it's so tight between her and RL and Stunna for the best host.
In my personal opinion it's not very close. She knows how to toe the line between being professional and being chill. Her questions and the way she leads discussion has always been elite. Gotta give it up to Stunna he has improved so much over the years.

Freya interviewing young ZywOo at Faceit London Major lives in my mind rent free. I'm so happy for her journey and growth and I hope to see her on broadcast for the next 20 years

The smartest questions i have heard were usually from Freya. I wish i could pull out my own quotes where i said that years ago. But if you have watched football for decades and are extremely bored by the every-same questions after a game you know what i mean. Freya always asks smart, relevant questions. A smart person that knows how to do their job.
There are many great desk hosts but Freya stands out to me. She always has excellent questions and leads the conversation perfectly. Also extremely chill during the couch segments of smaller tournaments like Pro League. Just a pleasure to watch her work. So much more than "just a pretty face"!

i have to say im intrigued to find out about Freyas background, from the very first interviews i had seen with her, she always seemed completely unphased and in control. Her background gives more context to that. always great to see her on the desk in a tournament

Well, to be fair love and hate as it relates to entire groups is never universal. Even the most ardent racests will find some individuals who they find likeable and will hate certain individuals from their own race.
Freya is the hottest talent in the scene right now. An absolutely fabulous desk host. Was a shame she missed the major but she will have many more chances im sure.
