You're right, it may seem boring to most people, but this boring exercise is a crucial display of dropping supplies to our troops behind enemy lines. Supply drops like this can win or loose battles. If these guys are not spot on, they can supply our enemy and leave our troops low on ammo and food. The U.S. is second to none in this boring act of supplying our troops in the battlefield. Another reason why we are the best, we even excel at the boring and behind the scenes activities.
in some cases the CDS bundles are ejected from the plane by gravity. The plane will nose up, the bundles are unlocked from the roller system and out they go. The parachutes are attached to the anchor line cables by static lines inside the plane to open them. For larger packages (like trucks) a drogue chute is used to pull it out of the plane and activate the main parachutes.
exactly. no matter how hi-tech your equipment is.. if your personnel aren't trained well on it they will be ineffective. there is a lot that can go wrong, especially with an airdrop, but with practice and good training... they can pull it off like clockwork... anytime... any day... when need be. props to these fine young men and women who serve their country.
US Military,...best in the world. My dad was career Army Airborne,...Airborne,..."All the way". "Geronimo" . Master parachutist. 82nd Airborne,....11th Airborne. 188 Infantry,....127th Airborne Engineers. Japan, Korea, Germany, Thailand, Okinawa and many other classified place. Damn proud of my dad.,....Damn proud and lucky to be an American.
@TheRedexx that woman is representing the true strength and brute force of our country, and working to fight for freedom harder then I or you could ever dream
It's nice to know how you appreciate the importance of this exercise. Read the description. This men and women were training to perform this operation in real life, but with 3,250 SOLDIERS and 3,450 TONS OF EQUIPMENT!!! If you can do that, without spending your tax money, sign-up for the military and do it yourself!!!
I thought it might be something along those lines but on these videos if you watch around 4.30 there only seems to be cables attached to the inside of the craft. It doesn't appear that there's anything on the outside pulling them out.
Poderio US Air Force. Ningun pais del mundo se permite unas maniobras con 13 C-17 en formacion, incluso no creo que existam mas de 5 que tengan una flota de ese poderio. Me encantan que saquemos de paseo a los chicos, que seamos asi de chulitos
What's used for the drop, meaning are they just dropping empty wooden crates with some ballast or is there something specific in the crate to increase the exercise realism like something that could brake if the crew doesn't do it right. Must be quite a site seeing 13 of those big boys taking off and landing.
I have a question. What is it that causes the pallets to roll out the back of the plane? Is there some kind of conveyor mechanism or do the pilots just pull up and let gravity do the work?
@redstar127 While it would be quite cool to see 540 bundles raining down on this training excercise, it's just that, and exercise. Think of how much that would cost to build the bundles ant pick them up at the end! The purpose is training and two bundles are more than enough for training purposes. The amount of coordination it between pilots needed to do this in immense, which is why this training is conducted. How else can we maintain out ability to do the job if we don't train to do the job?
Great answer thanks! I thought that was possibly the way it happened. Wasn't sure if there was also some sort of powered method, like motorised rollers on the floor or something too.
Joint Base Charleston for the win!! What was the date of this flight cause I think I was out of town during this exercise? Would have been cool to watch though
And I should have said Major Operation half assed. Though Market Garden counts too, I dont' think the actual drops were half assed like Dieppe was. It was in fact the opposite effect, of being too confident in your preparation and thus trying to take mroe than practical. In either case... I'm not jumping out of a plane as the first guy to do it for real in 10 years. With no training you'd end up with your chute getting sucked into a turbofan or something.
Impressive the US is impressive, everything is taller, bigger than in the rest of the world the size of the car, of the aircraft carrier, the military budget and the US navy... as a french I feel little when I see that!
Over 21,000 views; 101 lovers of the Paratrooper's "Cadillac"...one dirty nasty LEG that didn't score high enough on the ASVAB to get into the Army or Air Force.
Nah man he has a point! Why are we wasting money training people when we could just say, "You go do this now... you don't need practice."? OBVIOUS waste of money!
Cause the last time they did an operation half assed with little preparation it fell on its ass. This was called Dieppe. They learned you have to be meticulous in preparation. Then on D-Day most things went pretty well considering. Even then the paratroopers were tossed all to hell with no idea where they were. Tanks for Omaha released too far out so they sank. Little mistakes lead to big deaths. Modern tech doesn't prevent enough mess ups to void the necessity of proper exercises.

So the next time Katrina happens, no problem right? lol

Charleston SC. That's the bridge for Hwy 17.
she's in the left seat that means she's the boss, that's her bird. I can't see any of her crew laughing so I guess it's no joke.
A M A Z I N G FOOTAGE!!!
I truly envy the folks sitting on the open loading ramps!
I did that on the C-130. It is a very special privilege. You gotta train out the wazoo, but it is worth it.
It looks like star wars when they were coming straight at you O_O
I love watching those Charleston birds drop. I see North Field hasn't changed any since I use to camp out there.

@TradeMark2003 Actually about $200+ million a piece depending on the support, supply and maintenance contracts.
Great bit of footage, never get to see anything like this down-under (sigh); thanks for posting. Cheers.
It would be neat if there was also a recording of the ATC. Must be a challenge to keep track of so many large planes flying close together.

For some reason, the ride of the valkyrie by wagner comes to mind
Some serious coordination of camera work. Good job!
Joint Base Charleston for the win!! What was the date of this flight cause I think I was out of town during this exercise? Would have been cool to watch though
Dos anyone know how big the biggest reallife drop in combat was? How many planes and how many cargo where dropped? Thanks allready!
Cool video. Thanx for the upload.
@TheBigBoohm2009 no worries man. we're allies now. we got your back
Well and ya also know which drop was the biggest with C-17 or C-5 Starlifter?
is that typical air drop formation? and then regular flight formation is like flock-style?
Are these larger than C-5's?
That was very cool!! Thanks for sharing!
I think they deploy a drogue-shute out in to the airflow that literally pulls it out. Well in some cases they do that anyway
Is this Charleston AFB?
Very nice! Amazing video!!
where is this at ? wat bridge ?
Where was this? What bridge?
O.O in Germany you wont see so much airplanes flying in a formation.
Thank you for that great video! :-)
Greatings from Germany
PS: I'm no Nazi!
OMG!!! Beautiful! Beyond Words!
Si hay algo mejor que un C17, es ver 13 de estos pajarillos al mismo tiempo !!!
2:42 is this freedom? Sure looks like it :D
Its your deluded fantasy land.
Gabriel Cox Fuck off.
Wade Davis Nice language pal:)

Ooooohhhhh!!!! Good Drops!!! Luckily, they allow cameras in military bases... They didn't allow me when I was in CFB Trenton... lol
i want to see them do tat w/ c 5's carrying m1's

love this video
I remember at security forces tech school in the old dorms aka "jail house" hearing these things fly 300 feet overhead every 3 minutes. loud as fuck
@TradeMark2003 Eleventy is a BIG number
Impressive the US is impressive, everything is taller, bigger than in the rest of the world the size of the car, of the aircraft carrier, the military budget and the US navy... as a french I feel little when I see that!
+François “Dick Grayson” Bay And BROKE! ONLY A GAZION $ in debt!
@surfnfx jealous Russian troll :)
Looks like my sarcasm wasn't noticed...
Ok, now who has to go PICK THEM ALL UP?!!
I've been in the cockpit of one :)) military child lifeee
That's amazing. I would lhave loved to see that.
Ummmm not completely true. C-17s can carry up to 33 tons of cargo, making it easier to transport vehicles over-seas.
Nothing gets air dropped out of a C-5.
that looks awesome!!!!!

my apologies, was thinking of strykers and sheridan's - sorry
this is santa clauses real sleigh.
this is why the military never has money.
I'm going to go with Training. You cant just send troops out there to airdrop if they don't know how do drop it off.
its red dawn in america, its in the news.
How many kills in black ops to get all this care package ?
They could've uses 1 bird for the amount of cargo dropped.
Hey!!!! I played with this team!!!!!!
Thanks for playing
@skierboy6 hahaha ya wat about patch 1.1.310
Nah man he has a point! Why are we wasting money training people when we could just say, "You go do this now... you don't need practice."? OBVIOUS waste of money!
C-17 the best
Look at these monsters
Do you even Airlift?
haha, only a fool, with a lack of information, tells us that
I didn't see any troops jump.
3 people like C-130's
cost: eleventy million dollars
wow impressive

Given care packages to civilians isn't a good idea.
