Sometimes the ideas are better, and they save time, money, and your knees. The important part, is working WITH your dad, not against him, and not working for a BOSS who doesn't listen or is unwilling to try new things.

This is where the problem lies. Because someone has been doing something for 30 or 40 years doesnt mean there are no better ways of doing the same thing. Sometimes dad's can be extremely stubborn and hate being told there is a better way. I am not saying one should be disrespectful, but it can be extremely difficult to bring change in a family business. Comfort brings contentment that leads to stagnation. A lot of the most successful business were taken to the highest levels by the children or child who inherited their father's businesses.

Despite being a soldier, Jocko is kind of Buddhist in outlook. You realize that if you listen to him enough. Buddhism teaches extreme ownership.
