  • Direct-To-Film vs. Sublimation Printing | What's the Difference?
    Direct to Film Printing vs Sublimation - which one is right for you?
    Just because a new technology hits the scene doesn’t mean it’s better than everything that came before it.
    What it DOES mean is that you should take stock of your business, consider your future and decide if one or more new systems should make it to your buy list.
    This comparison is between what is arguably the oldest digital decoration method… sublimation… and the newest… direct to film.
    DTF, or Direct to Film, has many features that make it an attractive option for busy shops:
    - Very fast transfer production
    - Use with any fabric
    - Stretchable - and looks great afterwards
    - Low cost per print
    - Sell transfers as well as completed custom apparel
    - Low heat press time
    - Washes like screen printing
    To watch the full process of making a t-shirt with ColDesi's DTF-24H2, watch this demonstration video: • How It Works | Printin...
    But those features don’t take anything away from what makes Sublimation so popular and so useful:
    - Great vibrancy
    - Incredibly soft hand or “feel”
    - Low cost per print
    - Very low entry price
    - VERY quiet operation
    - No odor or fumes
    - Perfect for home, office or kiosk operation
    To watch the full process of making a t-shirt with sublimation, watch this video: • How to Start Sublimati...
    DTF or Direct-to-film is also made specifically for clothing or garments. These transfers adhere to fabric and are not made for hard surfaces.
    Sublimation gives you the ability to customize mugs, mousepads, photo panels, ornaments and tons of other blanks that are polyester coated. You can find a ton of options on colmanandcompany.com/sublimat...

    What is the Difference in Sublimation inks & DTF Inks?
    Is it possible to get White ink for Sublimation?

    • @ColDesiColman
      @ColDesiColman  Год назад +1

      Sublimation inks are dye-sub inks and DTF inks are water based inks. DTF Ink is a liquid being printed onto a film.
      Sublimation ink goes through a chemical process. It is a solid ink that transitions from a solid state directly to a gas without ever becoming a liquid. There is no white sublimation ink. Therefor there is no white sublimation ink.

    What’s the storing time for the sublimated printouts before pressing it?

    • @ColDesiColman
      @ColDesiColman  2 года назад +1

      If the sublimation transfers are stored in a dry, cool, dark environment they can last several months.

    Can you dtf print with a sawgrass sublimation printer?

    • @ColDesiColman
      @ColDesiColman  Год назад

      Great question. So you can create a transfer that can be directly applied to apparel with a Sawgrass. Though the term used would be to “sublimate” the apparel with a transfer. DTF is creating a different type of transfer that is not sublimation. The benefits of DTF are going to be speed and versatility over sublimation. If you have more questions be sure to visit ColDesi.com and live chat with one of our pros.

      @@ColDesiColman Thanks for replying. I’m trying to find a way to print on cotton shirts without using a cutting machine (which is what I have to do with sublimation). DTF would be ideal because it doesn’t require you to use a cutting machine. Without having to buy another printer, I was asking what would I have to do to use my sawgrass printer for dtf transfers.

    • @ColDesiColman
      @ColDesiColman  Год назад

      @@meganbee. ah yes. Most applications that allow for sublimating on cotton involve a cutter and other materials. Though you can try Vapor apparel. The Basic T from Vapor has a very nice “cotton” type feel people enjoy. And it’s sublimation certified. colmanandcompany.com/short-sleeve-basic-t-shirt.html

    1:08 what do you mean by "it has no hand"?

    • @ColDesiColman
      @ColDesiColman  2 года назад

      Hand feel is a phrase used to describe the feeling of a design on a shirt when you touch it. Sublimation has absolutely no feeling. It is part of the shirt. If you close your eyes and touch the design you wouldn't know where it is.

    Hi I’m new to the tshirt business. I’m basically stuck between choosing if I want to go the dtf route or sublimation? Can someone break down the pros and cons. I read sublimation last longer but dtf colors are better. I also read that dtf ink works on sublimation paper as well? If so, do the colors still come out as good using dtf ink on sublimation. Can someone confirm these statements or add statements? Also best brands?
