The 80's were just one peak. We remember them so fondly because our culture took a dive immediately after. If you want a perpetual age of innovation and freedom, you must fight for it. ancient-forums(dot)com
You're absolutely correct about the 80s being one of many peaks in creativity and imagination. I don't believe the dive happened in the 1990s, though. I believe things leveled off in the 1990s and the nose-dive occurred in the early 2000s, and we've been there ever since, waiting for the next peak.
This trailer brings home the insane level of creative alchemy that was happening in this decade! There must have been a new science fiction / fantasy classic hitting theatres every other week!
@French Sailer Nah, I'd say thanks to people not getting offended so easily and producers allowing film studios to expand their creativity instead of trying to build "Marvel-like" franchises
I'll never forget The 80's. The best decade when it comes to popculture. Its also an important part of my childhood. Thanks guys for outstanding visuals!
I hope the next one is "In Search of Fantasy". The 80s had the best fantasy movies of all time and to this day nothing has come close Conan the Barbarian, Legend, Neverending Story, Labyrinthe etc
This moved me so much I'm in tears of joy. The 80's Sci-Fi movie genre was the prime example of the human imagination was capable of with all that created freedom, a whole decade full of possibilities. *"As long as people continue to search for answers; they have a reason to live, a place to return. I believe in that future."* that quote screamed to me when I watched this trailer. Can't wait for this to come out in December!
In my most humble opinion the 80’s had so much more magic and art then todays movies ever will. There is still some good ones but the 80’s never die. I’m a 90’s kid but am a big fan of the 80’s
God!...the 80's, right in my wheelhouse. I've seen just about everything mentioned here, and you forget, this was all from the 80's, the 1980's. And I watched it with a wonder, that is hard to describe to the 2020's folk. You younglings out there, I almost feel sorry for you, the abundance of riches we had, from just going to a movie theatre. Damn, i'm really aging myself now. Just back this thing, I did.
80s horror and sci-fi always had me wanting to make movies. The worlds that were created always blew me away and the visuals were and still are astounding.
Wow, The Final Countdown is one of my favorite 80s sci-fi. US carrier lost in time, jet dogfights on props, fantastic sci-fi navy film. I even thought of a story of a joint NATO-Russia carrier armada lost to another universe where we thought it's just a fictional story... fantasy/sci-fi video game stories..... with a twists of a lost naval armada.
I purchased a copy a couple of days and cant wait to get it..i also went on e bay to get a copy of In search of the last action heros.im 50 and this is perfect to add to my collection. So many great memories of the 80s from the first time me and my family rented vcrs and vhs tapes to getting my first dvd player to getting my first blu ray player and getting into streaming.
I spoke with the director of this documentary yesterday and after hearing his passion for movies, the 80's and Sci-Fi, I am even more excited to watch this!
I truly believe that with today’s technology there is a niche in film where movies with the 80’s aesthetics and outlook on the future can truly come to life. This genre of filmmaking is primed for a big return. The music is also making a comeback with channels like Newretrowave.
I was not born in the 80s but I have watched some of the movies shown In the video. I can gladly say that I'm glad I got to experience some of the movies from that era.
The story lines, the characters, the adventure, the practical effects, the awesome soundtracks, oh take me back to the Sci fi electro tidal wave that was the 80's.
I tell you the thing, what we had in 80s in western world, in Poland in some part it was represented in 90s. Finally we had these movies form 80s in TV and, VHS rental was huge success. When I was living in UK since 2008 I asked some people if they knew these TV series, like MacGyver, and they didn't. And it all was played in Polish TV, just in 90s. With grate voice over translation.
I can't wait for my physical copy to arrive in the mail. And I have an idea of what they could do next. They could do a documentary about 80s high school movies such as Breakfast Club, Ferris Beullur's Day Off, Weird Science, etc. It could be called 'In Search of Students' or 'In Search of Lessons' or something like that.
Very exciting trailer!...and a worthy project. The 80's brought forth such a wealth of science fiction movies that have impacted our psyches. It's past time to do a complete retrospective. Now that I think about it, the creators of this documentary should interview a fellow named Sam Longoria. He did a huge amount of special effects work on many of the 80's Sci-fi movies...(and he's a cool guy I've worked with once). The Terminator The Abyss Spaceballs 2010 Ghostbusters Big Trouble in Little China
This looks great. Just like their other docs. I just hope they get good trailer transfers (a lot of trailers have been remastered and released on Blu-ray already), and not pixelated ones, and pick the best parts/scenes from all the movies. The music in the previous docs have been good, and it looks like this one is set for that too. Bring it on, cant wait!
Hopefully, a future documentary will be a salute to animated movies from the 80’s. Maybe call it “In Search for Animation”. It can include stuff by Don Bluth, Hasbro, Disney, and even Japanese anime movies.
Contains movies I forgot about. Did I see Heart Beeps? Ice Pirates? Wow... Time Bandits! Flash Gordon! Heavy Metal! So many great movies. The 80s was the decade.
If you mean Generation X, trust me, we knew we lived in the greatest decade ever. We just foolishly believed that the 90s and 2000s would get even better, but alas, that didn't happen. Things leveled off in the 90s and went downhill in the 2000s.
@@ShadowKrueger You're 23? Wow, your Generation X parents had you in their late 20s back in the 1990s. Damn, time moves fast. Feels like yesterday that the Baby Boomers were saying the same thing to us. lol

The 1980s. The upper echelon of human imagination & creativity. Surrealist visual & audio indulgence unlike anything seen since.
