Practical effects over CGI... Couldn't agree more
Effff yeah. The original The Thing and Precinct 13 went hard compared to todays horror movies. 🤘
And it looked brilliant even back then.
Well the CGI was shitty in the early 2000's but it's improving
@@yesikanarvaez5027 I bet you weren't born in the 80s? 😁
@@davidscanlon2538 I was born in 1993
Back when horror was horror
Well yeah all the best ideas are slowly running out
NAHHH 80 HORRIBLE MOVIES BORING
Horror movies were incredible in the 1980’s, before hacks like Jordan Peele came along and injected race and social justice themes into them. PC culture ruined the world and entertainment.
You could say that again ,too bad its gone .
If you want to see shit example of horror just watch Stephen Kings IT (2018) now there's a great example of how dumb horror has been.
Elvira said the best thing i heard: "I'll take practical effects anyday over CGI." Damn straight. Too bad Hollywood doesn't follow suit.
I agree with that statement, but soon cgivwill be so good it will be impossible to distinguish it from reallity. They have to keep experiment with it to improve it. Just look at Escape from L. A and New York. L. A is barely watchable dou to the prehistoric cgi, but if you watch a new movie with cgi in it (if it is done well) it will not bother you that much. The deaging effect is also a game changer. 100 years from now they will be able to create a perfect cgi Han Solo long after Harrison's {I am not going to type it}. I would love to see practical effects from indie film makers or from a new "Holly Wood" that specializes on these films. Who knows maybe Wakalliwood is our future.
@@roberth4395 Good points! But i can always tell if something is CGI. You simply cannot duplicate reality.
I love how I know almost every single character in this
I think we all fans of horror love that. And it gets better when you have all the movies and feel like watching each and every one of them knowing that you actually can 😈😈😈Now I really have a great plan for my next long weekend 😈😈😈
Same...
Right it bring back memories because the old days horror movies is way better then this generation so called horror movies.
@@alejandrovillalba3143 same here
Gabriel Hughes Yea, the only good modern (original) horror movie today is Either A quiet place &The cabin in the woods
Being a teenager in the 80s was great, we had horror and metal a winning combination!
I couldn’t agree more. Metallica and Friday the 13th movies ruled my life beginning at age 12 in 1986! 🤟🤟🤟🤟😝😝😝
Yeah original horror movies was so great now people have no good ideas how to make horror films anymore and everytime they try to remake or up to date it their Roundup screw with it.

Dennis the menace just to question is Stranger Things 10/10 a accurate I think so but you where in the as a teen
Pfff growing up in the 2000s is way better. Justin Bieber, Twilight, the Kardashian’s, and a former reality tv star is president. Doesn’t get much better than that.
James rolfe yes! All time fav! Member since 06!
I wasn't born in the 80's but I grew up on 80's pop culture movies, music etc, etc. I love 80's horror movies best decade of horror movies.
All the BEST classic horror movies! My time!
Litazz81 right on!!! My time too!!! I miss those days!!!
I've seen every film in this trailer. This was part of my entertainment diet as a 80s kid. It was always so exciting to ride down to the video shop and walk along the isle of the VHS horror section, getting creeped out by all the cool cover art. I'd take a horror film home every night and after my home work, my late grandfather and I would sit down to watch it. We didn't have TV here in Fiji back then, so those VHS tapes were all I had; 80s horror and action films. Good times.
Looking forward to watching this.
The only one I don’t recognize is at 2:32. Feel like helping me out with the title?
Same as you, friend. Loved going into video stores and just feasting on the box art. My folks wouldn't DARE rent them for me but I'd stay up late on Friday/Saturday nights watching some on Showtime, like Gates of hell, Invasion of the flesh hunters, even the God-awful Night of the zombies. Good times, great memories.
@AlwaysLookCool 729 oh yeah lol. Specifically, Halloween gave me a crapload when it first came on TV,I was about seven then. The other was the poster for Fulci's Zombie, and seeing a commercial for The Slayer. Hates of hell did a number on me too. Now they're among my faves
This takes me back!
@@07foxmulder dont know aswell. if anybody knows the name please tell.
I'm 28 years old and love the horror genre. Most of the horror movies in my collection are 80s horror.
I’m 40 myself and I do believe that was that golden age of them. I like the real special effects even when u can tell their fake much better than cgi. Plus I wonder if most of the great original ideas are all used up????
@@pinner01 right that what I'd say they run out with ideals they dont know how to make any more good horror movies with great storytelling. And all this remake or so called updating movies sucks. If the original horror movies not broken why remake it and screw things up !.
Yo what movie is this @0:53 the one with the huge scissor
Bastard Cat that is Friday the 13th part 5. You get to see all of that girl prior to that too....

Hey, James Rolfe is in this!
I know right. I was so surprised.
THE NERD
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERD
Ya for about 30 seconds
The Monster Squad....wow, that still seems like only yesterday. Having grown up in the 80s, it was strange seeing Andre Gower, an actor I’d all but forgot about (and didn’t know his name) from a film that was actually very silly...but we all loved it.
sign543 WOLFMANS GOT NARDS!! Lol 😂😂😂 still gets me every time. Monster Squad is a cult classic!!
That was a great period for horror and fantastique. I remember I met in a festival Brian Yuzna, in 2002. I told him I haven't a dvd copy of "Re-animator". A couple of weeks later, I received by mail the two-disc edition of the movie, for free! A nice and friendly guy...
Wal 74 You met Brian Yuzna? Wow. You are lucky. I met Jaeden Martell who played young Bill in It (2017)
I'm 45, so this was pretty much my childhood.
thepassionofthegoose me too! Love me some serious horrors!
My aunts are your age and I was like 10 years younger than them. So i would watch with them. I think that’s why I’m not your typical millennial. You learn a lot from quality movies like these cult classics. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤟🏼 Miss movies like these. Love how Peele is referencing these movies also.
I'm 24 and even know i'm not an 80s child i grew up watching those classics on TV, they are my childhood too haha
Hank SH
Same.
Except I’m 28.
I don’t like Exorcist and Omen and Rosemary’s Baby though.
I DO love the rest of these older horror movies.
I also enjoyed the original black and white Psycho.
And I also enjoy some of today’s horror movies.
Depends on which ones.
^.^
Awesome! Friday the 13th, evil dead, nightmare on elm street, child's play, hellraiser. Some of my favorites from that era.
I'd love to see someone make a doc comparing horror movies of the 80's to horror movies of the past 15 years. The difference goes way beyond blood and gore. CGI and makeup not only look different but are filmed different. Even the lighting is wildly different. The 80's movies used deep shadows and bright lights to create harsh contrasts, whereas today everything is glossed over with color correction and tinted lens and moody color palettes. The movies today look like paintings while the movies from the 80's look like nightmares.
Filmmakers could have never been more creative. The 1980s was the golden age of horror cinema.
Shout out to Jeffrey Combs, he’s a fricken amazing actor. Love all his work 👏🏼
Re-Animator is an all time cult classic, and Barbara Crampton is beyond hot.
Did you see "Would you Rather"?
The 80’s horrors are the absolute best! You can’t get a good horror these days that keeps you on the edge of your seat . This documentary is released this month for people that pre ordered it and I cannot wait to get it!
Great trailer, but surely the 70s was the most iconic horror decade... The Exorcist, Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Wicker Man, Alien, Jaws, The Omen, DOTD, Salem's Lot... Just to name a few!
Agreed. The 70s was the best in terms of quality but 80s horror had this charm about it that the 70s didn’t.
@@07foxmulder I think the 80s has some great horror faces, Krueger, Pinhead, Jason etc are all super memorable and recognisable and I would agree also, the 80s has an almost 'fun' tacky charm that the 70s didn't. I just think that iconic scenes like Regan's head spinning, the POV Michal Myers shots and Leatherface's chainsaw 'dance' did more for horror than anything from the 80s.
The 80s ventured into other forms of horror. Particularly horror comedy films which became classics. Also remade some classic 50s horrors for a new generation. It really peaked in the 80s.
Tom L Oh for sure. There’s no denying that the 70s is the best.
I also think they chose they 80s because of how nostalgic for the 80s we are at the moment. It started with Super 8, then Stranger Things, then IT. Everyone’s loving that decade.
Both of them deserve a full series of documentaries. Even better, one documentary for each iconic film. Id love to watch something like that.
I m Italian and I'm very proud to be born in this country were borns Lucio fulci and Mario bava two masters of horror
Dario Argento is also one of greatest. I sometimes wonder if they ever had a double or triple feature of those directors' movies on NYC's original 40 Deuce.

The 80s....the greatest decade for horror *ever.* 👍
And the 60s. Hammer horror were the best in my opinion.

@hillel raz it's very possible!

Practical effects over cgi any day 👍
80's and 70's were the greatest decades in the last 100 years.

In your opinion.

The existential 80s horror documentary.. U won't find bette or more concise. Its perfection and at 4 and half hours long it's spoiling urself like a kid at Xmas.. Amazing work.
That final shot/remark from "An American Werewolf In London" is the PERFECT encapsulation of my feelings about this compilation.
The reason practical effects are so amazing is because you can't spot them from a mile away like CGI.
Yeah you can.
サニャSanny uh no, you can’t! CGI sucks and it has no business in horror! END OF STORY!
@@urgfswallows Whew I'm glad someone caught that too 😂
@@urgfswallows the good thing about practical effects is, even if it's not very convincing you can still see that it's a thing that exists inside a scene. When CGI is unconvincing however, it looks like it doesn't belong in the scene, which breaks immersion even more.
BUT CGI is virtually limitless. When CGI is good you won't even know it's CGI and ironically that's why people think there's no good CGI: it's so good they actually think it's real.
I mean, I'm all for practical effects. Lot's of times it's just easier to make it convincing than CGI, but saying that "you can't spot them from mile away like CGI" is just wrong, period.
The 80s hands down, the best horror.
True
R.I.P. Larry Cohen🙏
Practical effects over CGI? Hell yeahhhhhh!
In Search of Darkeness is going to be huge!
Mark my word's it's going to become a new cult classic!
Forget about His name was Jason & Nightmares in Red White & Blue.
This is the real McCoy and showcasing the best decade in and of horror a great time to have been alive and a epic time for horror!
A must have for horror collector's this brings back fond memories of Gore,Creatures,Guts,
Video Nasties & Blood.
I need that three hour cut of this ASAP can't wait!!!!!
Maybe, but documentaries don't usually become classics. A couple have the, only one I can think of off the top of my head is Touching the void.
I hope it does, I'm very excited for this.
Imagine if all the characters in the thumbnail were actually in a movie together.
They could def beat Thanos.
Thomas Sinclair
Lmao XD
🤣
Yeah.
If there was a crossover, or a what if battle, then these guys could actually kill Thanos.
Now I wonder what would happen if they fought against DEADPOOL?
XD
Finally RUclips recommends something I care about!
I swear the 2010s seem to have an obsession with the 1980s. Anyone agree?
Hell yeah!!! They should bring these movies back on the big screen again! So much fun back in the 80s and early 90s
All these awesome names in the trailer, and I still fanboyed more over James Rolfe than anyone else.
Wellll...except maybe Kane Hodder. If only cause he could kill me.
James Rolph is shit now. He lost touch with his craft.
@@Xykaru That's your opinion, but I happen to disagree.
Sorry but I never understood the obsession/fandom over Kane Hodder. Let’s keep in mind that he starred in 4 of the worst films of the Friday 13th franchise. And his portrayal of Jason was so ridiculously over done that he just looked absurd and hardly believable! Kane Hodder, very overrated in my book!
Oh my... is like an updated version of Going to Pieces: Rise and Fall of Slasher Films. Great!!!
Not gonna lie I showed up to this video kinda thinking this was a giant mashup at the same time having doubts and thinking it’s a trash fan made trailer but I wasn’t disappointed
I need to watch this.
The cover art to this video look so amazing I want a poster of it
Just another reason why I am so grateful for being born at one of the best times ever! So my age lined up perfectly For the 80's. And 90's for that matter!
My 80s was twisted AF. True Horror at its finest. 😎😍 The moment I seen that snout from The Howling I just smiled. 😋
My favorite horror film that wraps it all up at the end. Thank you!
Would love to see a 70’s documentary. As much as I love the horror of the 80’s, the horror of the 70’s is so interesting
Just bought the blue ray
The 80's was best decade for horror and slasher movies. Those practical effects ,puppets and animatronics we hardly see nowadays.
Some of my fondest childhood memories were watching most of these movies before I even hit my teens! Loved em.
THE LOST BOYS!
RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD!!
AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON!!!!!!!!!
Why can't today do anything as remotely impressive as back then😣
just like what happened to the Wolfman with Benicio Del Toro!before he knew it, the studio had fucking asked shit cgi folks to do the scene in the observatorium!Rick Baker got snuffed for his love of the craft on that one!the studio ran over his oscars over probably for shorter shooting days!!!!
I DO hope that with Halloween 2018's success, the horror genre sees that storytelling, atmosphere, and NUANCE is part of the art. We suffered a LONG age from 2000 to 2013 where horror was glossed over with CGI, Sephia filters, grey and blue filters, 3D conversion, generic music, and plots that SPOONFED you everything.
I'm happy in this current era that films are trying to use techniques of the 80s: Halloween 2018, IT FOLLOWS, Happy Death Day, GET OUT, You're Next, Hereditary, UPGRADE, and even SPLIT have taken a tone with the 80s era and have scaled back on generic stories or rehashing in place of experimental concepts, deviation from previous examples, and original non-orchestral music. I have a strong feeling the "80s nostalgia" craze is going to allow horror to see where remakes failed but "re-imagining" can still succeed. It's not enough to just COPY "A Nightmare on Elm Street" or "THE THING". You have to find what made it so terrifying and freezing to begin with. Realism. Make us believe it, feel like we can touch it, and that it can happen to us today.
You're Brilliant!!!
The 2000s horror movies are just as good and in most cases even scarier. Don’t be so caught up with your childhood memories and cognitive dissonance that you forget to appreciate modern day horror too. The 80s is not the standard and had a lotttt of cheesy films, movies evolve over time and that should be celebrated
Freddy Krueger/A Nightmare on Elm St is still my favourite Slasher/Franchise of the 80s. Michael Myers/Halloween my favourite of the 70s and Ghostface/Scream for the 90s.
No love for Jason, dude? :(
@@teknomax7883 Heaps of love for Jason and Friday the 13th to be honest. Probably would be my second favourite. It's just because they both came out around the same era and if I had to pick only one it would be Freddy. There's certainly heaps of love for Jason from me.
Why no chucky or Jason
Hate to be that guy but there’s no U in the word favorite. It’s unnecessary and only pretentious ppl spell it that way!

The best year of horror movies
I know that the Saw series isn’t from the 80s but it’d still be cool to see it on here. They used lots of practical effects and put a lot of work into making the traps look real, not to mention Billy the puppet became a popular icon.
Such sights to be shown!
If I had a time machine (preferably a Dolorien because that would be appropriate) I would love to go back to the 80's just to relive the great horror movies (knowing what's going to happen) and watching the crowds react to the first time!
