Feeding ALL of my SNAKES (Featuring my New COTTONMOUTH!)

- I've finally crossed over into the world of venomous snake-keeping - even if my first hot looks like a pile of dirt. In this video, we meet Smokey the cottonmouth (or water moccasin) for the very first time, feed him and all three of my other snakes, and take a peek at their current enclosures!

I already had a pinned comment on this video but I gotta address this - yes, ten gallons is TOO SMALL for a bp of Bowie’s size. Balls are active snakes which do best with room to roam. It became apparent after this video was uploaded that the time to upgrade him has already come and gone, so he was moved into a larger enclosure a few days after filming. I have a personal responsibility to practice and publicize only the best for my animals, and I’m more than willing to emphasize that ball pythons deserve space. I have no desire for impressionable viewers to come away with the opposite conclusion. However, on the flip side of this - a minor infraction, such as housing a snake in a territory that’s too small should not be mistaken for outright, blatant animal abuse when the snake is otherwise healthy and well-cared for. This does not specifically refer to me. Attacking and berating other members of your reptile-loving community will never be the right way to bring about change or make your message heard. We all love our animals, we all want what’s best for them. If you believe someone else is in the wrong, you do not attack them - you educate and inform them. You will get absolutely nowhere with a bad attitude and a sense of superiority, and in attacking other members of your community you become actively detrimental to it. Chill out and stop being a keyboard warrior.
AfroHerpkeeper Ok
If you know it's too small why the hell was he even in there?! It's be better if you didn't know.
It's not attacking dumbshit. We can't attack you by calling you out on your stupidity.
@@shake4259 If u apporach an argument or to raise a concern with aggression rather than with te purpose to help someone
Well said, these people are just hateful.
"The more observant among you will notice the rat is male" 😂😂😂😂
Karlie Johnson I was gonna say damnnnn that rat has hugeeeee balls
Great comment!!!
I'm officially now binge watching your videos after seeing your incredible compassion for Saturn. I'm super glad to have found you, and I applaud your dedication for your animals.
Sammeee
SAME!
Same
If you’re noticing the distinct lack of Koshō and Tipsy in this video, I’m sorry to report that it’s because they’ve both passed on - Koshō was put to sleep after a long battle with her invasive fungal infection, Tipsy’s neurological disorder caught up with her and she went quietly overnight. Death is a part of life in that the more animals you work with, the more you eventually lose. Still, I never forget that with every dead animal goes a little mind. Hopefully they go in peace. Rather than staying upset about it I let it motivate me to continue providing the best care for all the living animals I still own.
Yeah I recently caught a young Brown Watersnake and I decided to keep it cause it was small and I've wanted a watersnake but out of nowhere he died which is a real shame it must have been something else cause he had all the care requirements and he was eating well but next year is the Tallahassee Reptiday which is the 1st one they've had in 3 years I hope to maybe add another snake to the collection probably another Watersnake or a new Python I also plan on getting a female leatherback Bearded Dragon to breed with my male,Smoky's awesome btw..my mom would never let me keep a Venomous snake but if I did I'd love to have a Copperhead with a nice forest floor design enclosure ill also be posting a compilation vid soon of different animals including me taking some of my reptiles, rabbit, and the electric catfish to a vbs where I fed my Ball Python a frozen mouse the kids got a kick out of it and got to pet her btw you excited for the new Irwins show?
AfroHerpkeeper I’m sorry to hear that
Beautifully, put. I totally agree
AfroHerpkeeper damn I’m sorry to hear that, we already knew Kosho was in pretty bad condition, but tipsy was completely unexpected, I’m really sorry to hear about that
Oh I’m sorry but let me tell you I love the way you look at life your amazing
Ur bird in the background sounds like a drill its kinda cute
Bird go Brrr

Your garter snake feeding was incredible, such a lively little think so happy with her ‘kills’ haha 😍
for 4:10 you could try putting the rat in a zip-lock bag before putting it water so the rat warms up but is still dry
It just outstounds me how snakes can eat something that is clearly bigger then their head n without the use of limbs. Snakes are amazing.
crazy turtle ikr?? it’s pretty insane
Their jaw unhinge so much and it amazes me. My oldest sisters ball python can eat two medium sized rats ( frozen then thawed) and I love watching her eat
If a guy snake is eating a guy rat....
Is that
G a y?
lol
Not if you say "no homo" first
I find it to be a testament to my own research when a month ago I had zero idea about anything BP, but when I saw Boey I immediately thought "Woah, he's not kidding he needs to size up!"
You take wonderful care of your animals, things happen and time gets away from you. They grow up too fast ;)
Have you done a video on boa constrictors? She's so gorgeous!
I always praise my snakes for eating too haha. “Good job!”
I understand about the hots being local, but I still suggest that you get ahold of some crofab especially for your atrox. There is always the risk that you won't be verbal if you present to the ER, but if everything is labeled and you have crofab that is up to date, you increase your chances of survival. Additionally, if you have the crofab I suggest you get an Epipen as well because many people reject crofab due to allergies. This may be a matter of taste, but I am not really a fan of the way you are keeping the cottonmouth. You really need a professional locking cage for her and any hots you get with proper labels and names clearly displayed. I say these things because I care about this hobby even if I do not keep hots, myself. It only takes one bad event or a fudged ER visit to give the lobbyists ammo against all keepers everywhere. Please consider my concerns. Get crofab, locking cages, and a more secure room and envrionment for your hots.
@Not Your Ordinary Jojoba Apart from it being illegal in my state, I also would find those expenses too steep. They really are part of the cost of the animal in my mind. Also keep in mind that all antivenin has short shelf life. You need to replace it every year or two depending on the serum.
1. Crofab is about $7000 per vial and he could easily need dozens of vials if he got tagged. It would be insanely expensive to keep on hand.
2. No.... many people do not reject crofab due to allergies. This used to be the case, but it is since outdated information. They removed some of the genetic tagging in the antivenin and now almost no one has reactions. The reactions that people have these days are from the snake bite itself, which is akin to a bee allergy.
3. If he wasn't verbal that is why he SHOULD have envenomation protocals in his venomous room. These would contain clear instructions for the hospital staff.
4. Yes.... he absolutely needs locking cages, and not a brick.
Hey Daniel, do you keep anti venom on hand just incase anything happened with the cottonmouth? Shes v pretty
I can't speak for Daniel but because this is a local species for him he can go to the hospital for antivenom if he gets bitten.
There would be no point. The local hospital has crofab on hand. It also costs about $7000 per vial and a bite could use 30 vials easily. So there is no need for him to buy it.
Or just start weekly venom injections lile Bill Haast and become immune.
thx for feeding frozen, I have 2 pet rats and it is heart wrenching to see rats suffer for no good reason. lots of people say its good for snakes to eat live, but most of them probably just want to see the thrill. thanks a lot!
extreme pets it’s better because they get more nutrients if it’s live but it’s bad because the rat can fight back and even injure ur snake very badly
@@marcusly6430 Their is no differences in live and frozen thawed.
@@katrinarobertson7173 You know some people want a mammal that can love you back and interact with you.
Most snakes eat dead pray in the wild anyway, so for most snakes it's just up to what they're used to.
My snake refused and wasted too many frozen thawed rodents. Gets live for now.
When you put your first ball pythons feeding on fast forward, I freaked out thinking your snake was having a seizure or something
owning a moccasin like its no big deal lmao nerves of steel
That champagne looking snake is so gorgeous
IM IN LOVE WITH BOWIE!!!
I love your videos, you enjoy your animals and you can really tell and you inform your viewers props to you.
Its pretty cool to see snakes of all types eat and see how all the snakes have a personality
The more observant of you will notice that this rat is a boy.
Me:ah yes, the floor here is made of floor
Youre awesome dude, glad you have a sick hobby. It's inspiring. keep doing what your doing.

I’m from England and I love your videos
het thanks a bunch, melvin the moccasin is full and is very health !
Cool...
I'm not a huge fan of people who tightly scrutinize other keepers for their personal practice's I personally think that it is very rude to do that as you don't know what they're animals are like, even though ball pythons have a pretty consistent d'asyle state about them they have a tendency to be very different from each other. But on the other hand, A 10 gallon for a to year old snake is a bit small and I mean like really small I don't even think about it he would be able to stretch out completely if wanted too. I mean snakes don't generally do that a lot but it's usually a rule of thumb to allow them to. I know a 10 gallon is a very quick fix but I'm just saying that I politely disagree with your keeping style of him. I have a ball python who is one year old and Just a little smaller than yours and he is thriving in a 40 gallon with multiple hinds and enclosed decor( So that he is not too frightened about the open space). I mean I could have continued keeping him in his 20 gallon but I chose for him to have more room and more things to explore( Since I had the money and space to do so) And he seems happier that way. But you can do whatever you want that's just my opinion/tip😊 have a nice day!!
Totally agreed that it's too small, but I don't like folks who accuse rather than offer solutions. Appreciate your courtesy - it's high on my list of things to change
He said he's going to upgrade it soon
Olivia Gouldsmith I have a ball python and he is 1 and he is in a 68 gallon
I looooove the hair
I stan you
Nice snakes
Wow.. I would think that taming that 'fro takes a good part of your time.. Awesome.
I wanted to watch this because I feel certain I will be encountering many snakes on my new property. I want to overcome my fear so we can all share the land in peace. Thank you for all you do.
It always amazes me how snakes can eat such large prey.
4:25 I’m dying😂
Nice shirt :)
I wish you were closer. Reptiles are my favorite and I am very knowledgeable. I want to do what you do at some point when I'm ready. For right now I'm just trying to help other reptile owners on how to care for them.
Your ball python Bowie is a handsome fella. Kinda looks like someone spray painted his scales yellow, very neat morph!
You have a great reptile snakes going on there
I’m a sculptor and I have been working on a series of pieces on snakes. Let me tell you, I am terrified of snakes that’s probably why I use them as a theme for my art. I have been watching hundreds of hours of snake videos lately for research purposes. And also visited a snake handling church. You, Dear Daniel are my favorite herpetologist. That cotton mouth was so scary. I’m definitely going to watch this again so my next snake I make is going to be a cotton mouth. I love that black and grey. And his head shape is awe inspiring to me.
I like the feeding tile idea, typically I use a small hors d'oeuvre plate with a medium frozen thawed rat to present to my ball python Charlie Chaplin (Chappie).
Subbed and pardon keep it up man
That’s a good ass intro thou
Finally, someone that doesn’t bash people for feeding live. I’m currently feeding my milk snake frozen and thawed while I’m feeding both my ball pythons live. We eventually want to convert them to frozen but since they had a good amount of their life eating live we want to make sure they eat well. Because of quarantine we hope to finally start feeding my girl and my boy frozen thawed
I feed my water snake live because that's the only thing she'll eat xd
Ahahaha Afro Madagascar reference
to watch her back move the rat down is just a magnificent thing to watch
❤❤
Hi! Love your videos. Can you tell us more about bio active enclosures? Or direct me to a video if you have already made one about it. Thanx.
I Love your Dogs
Hey man I love your ball python
Nice touch on the flat rock for eating- what kind of plants in the garden snakes enclosure
ALL KNOWING BILLY stop calling them fucking garden snakes
I really enjoyed this video. I appreciate the love and respect you have for your snakes. Even the Cottonmouth was just as stunning. Thank you for letting us in on feeding time. I couldn't believe how gentle the cottonmouth was while eating. She didn't even strike. Does she realize it is already dead or does she still inject venom?
Great footage! Thank you for the awesome videos
O so you got 4 now 5 with your new rattlesnake 👍🏿🔥.
I’d love to own a Cotten mouth or a diamond back rattle snake the beautiful but deadly
7:32 "the fuq you lookin at hooman?"

So lucky
Love your videos you should do feeding all your animals
Hi Joseph 😊 nice to see another video from you! How's the gecko collection coming along? I've seen alot of updates on Instagram but I'd love to see a video sometime!
Allen Jay Joseph?
Who else is here before age restriction 🤔
Could u do a video on how u got your snakes off of live to frozen?
If they started with live or ever wanted live
correct me if im wrong- but do boas not have a feeding response? I was told not to feed them in the same tank so they wont strike at you when trying to handle them.
I remember when Silla was half that size.❤️
owo thats alot of noodles
You deserve a lot more subs. Your intro is actually really awesome!
first snake when she sees the 2nd mouse "gib..gib!! >8c"
My ball python would love that 44 gallon tub. He loves to stretch out and explore. My female is the opposite. She just wants to stay in her hide in the corner at all times. She rarely comes out. I’m working on getting her more socialized. She was a rescue and is very timid and easily spooked.
Can you do a tutorial on how to build a tub like that? It looks awesome. And if it’s bioactive or not? You should do a video on it!
Mort is adorable
I also want a venomous snake 🐍 I love your videos.
Hi! just wondering where you got your hog island boa's enclosure, I can't seem to find any clear ones that size.
I feed live, it’s awesome never had any problems in over 17 years
Damn ur so cool
