I think that statement may by truer than you think. If you watched the clipped interview in full, they actually show a clip from Matt’s film and it’s him trying to do Borat-esque situational cringey comedy, but it’s actually skin-crawling uncomfortable because of Matt’s natural persona. He’s not good at that kind of performance and I honestly don’t know how he can put himself through that and release it onto the public if he had any sense of shame or embarrassment

The French monarchy, supported by European monarchies, sent the 1825 French expedition to Haiti to demand, with military menace, massive compensations: Haiti had to repay the French government and former slaveholders the modern equivalent of US$105 billion for abolishing slavery. This money needs to be returned to Haiti.

I’ve noticed that Matt Walsh is really bad at debate. He acts with such bravado when he’s trotting out his prepared points, but then when somebody challenges him in a way that leaves his script, he goes all sheepish and docile. Ben Shapiro is a lot better at thinking on his feet and coming back from the unexpected. Matt only seems to be able to handle carefully staged and edited interactions and rant monologues.

Most of the 'debate bros' on the right are terrible at actually debating. Shapiro, Walsh, Crowder, etc. Any time they come up against some that actually knows what they are talking about and have even a little bit of experience in a debate wipe the floor with them. Every single time. So they make sure that they only advertise and put out heavily edited videos of their debates and usually stick to teenagers as opponents. But not the ones that actually were in debate club or taking college courses in things like philosophy, etc. Just the run of the mill kids that know something is wrong with what is being said, but havent quite found their voice or the words on how to express it.

The man in the car tells the guy yelling him to get back in his car and when the man furious yells back "you get in your car", he responds with "I am in the my car". At which point the road rager just goes, "that's fair". They have zero true interest in the topics on which they pretend to speak so authoritatively about. What they care about is grievance and how they can convince others to operate that way out of fear. They cherish that so much because it means they can command political power that is animated solely on amorphous animus, that can be directed at whatever they want their audience to be enraged by. It really came across in his Joe Rogan episode. As much as Matt Walsh likes to say people on the left refuse to talk to or debate people on the right, the whole daily wire line. It's painfully clear Matt Walsh spends less than zero percent of his time in the presence of people who disagree with his views. No one in the daily wire real man circle jerk is going to challenge his views. The moment anyone challenges him his brain completely stops working. His evidence to back up any Staten he says is the equivalent of "well that's what I feel so it's obviously the truth" the fact that a simple challenge can so completely derail him makes me question if he believes anything or just says what he thinks will make him money.

    1. What should we do when Haiti is a 'failed' state? Total anarchy where gang lords are the only ones with power. Regular people are being kidnapped, murdered, and tortured. Two earthquakes in 14 yrs, numerous hurricanes, and assassinations.
    2. Movie review channels only review 'the human' condition docs, occasionally; They never review pure poitical docs.

The unearned confidence is real. That's what happens when you monologue carefully crafted talking points into a camera every day while billionaire funding and algorithm manipulation boost your ignorant messaging to an even more ignorant audience. You start to think you're an intellectual contender only to get verbally punched in the mouth and exposed as a bum when you dare to speak to someone who actually understands the subject matter.

This whole conversation REALLY takes me back to that Michael Brooks (Rest in peace brother) quote about how the difference in the right and the left largely comes down to this: One's mission is to naturalize while the other's mission is to contextualize.

They do understand history and its relationship with the present but only when it comes to the 'positives' and taking credit for achievements in the global south by attributing them to colonialism and western intervention. It is only when it pertains to the negatives are they ignorant of history and its relationship with current events. Because I am telling you, if Haiti was a booming economy, people like Matt Walsh would be able to site every U.S intervention in Haiti.

It is fascinating that Walsh is so completely convinced that his career path is that of a dry, comedy troll. He has a complete absence of charisma, and his understanding of humour is about on the par of what I'd expect from a Martian who has been observing humans for a week. He is far too bitter and resentful to deploy levity, nowhere near empathetic enough to be satirical, and his best facsimile for the humour he cannot master is just to say derogatory or exaggerated things in a completely flat monotone. Dude has a deep voice and glasses, and again, but cannot be emphasised enough, absolutely zero charm. He should be working the 'I'm an expert who knows these things' debate bro gift, but unfortunately I guess he either doesn't want to put in the work to find dubious studies to cherry pick or just flat out isn't smart enough to pull it off, so he commits to the 'hurr durr I'm the comedy troll who triggers everyone' bit. Badly. It's just remarkable because it's like if Danny DeVito had decided to dedicate all his life to being a point guard in the NBA, or Paul Reubens committing to a career as a gangster rapper. He could not be any less suited to what he thinks is his niche.

I noticed that both Ryan and Emily appeared to be intimidated by Walsh during the first quarter of the interview. He does speak with an ignorant confidence just like his brother Ben. From the second quarter of the interview to the end, Ryan schooled Walsh’s ass with facts and Emily continued to seem intimidated. Wait till she interviews someone who’s actually important!

The Haiti part was good, but if you're going to platform someone like Walsh, you need to be prepared to debunk everything he's going to say. It needs to be a full-on debate, not just an interview or discussion. He was able to spew too many lies that didn't get responded to. And it's disappointing to see Emily entertain Walsh's racist BS because she seems like a decent person.

At this point you don't have to even bother debunking Matt Walsh, his mask slipped off a long time ago. There is literally nobody left who he's fooling with his attempts at plausible deniability, he has many fans, but they are all proud racists and fascists now. It doesn't matter that he says dumb things, and doesn't know anything about the subjects he's talking about, that's not why his fans watch.. he's essentially just a walking dog whistle.
