If you double up the height of the initial size then when you cut the diagonal you have 2 pouches at a time. I don't know if I explained myself well. Great project.

My mother is heading into Assisted Living, likely after Christmas. She requested (10min before I started watching this video!!!) a pouch big enough for her iPad. I need to figure out how to add handles but that’s not too hard once the first one is made. Thanks for the tutorial. I like that you don’t give cutting measurements out of respect to the designer :)

    • @sewbecca
      @sewbecca  Год назад +12

I’d recommend the large or xl for the iPad! Adding handle should be easy - I’d just do it coming out of the side! Make the handle, and when you turn the bag inside out to add binding, before you add the binding, I’d just attach a little strap by tucking it in between the two exterior pieces in the top-ish area!

Cute pouch. You can also stitch over the zipper ends to prevent accidentally pulling off the zipper head while turning inside out.
Also, running a stitch all around before attaching the binding will squish down the foam and binding will go on without the bulk.
    Great tutorial!

The 'discard' portion could defintely be 1/2 a coin purse, at least. :) Or made into a short cup/tall bowl for change, paperclips, binding clips, and more! Lots of options alone or by combining it with the discards from the other bags to make another unique gift!

Becca, thank you for this video - I bought this pattern last month and you have walked me through the creating in a smart, friendly way.
I recently discovered my little silver seam guide - the bar that fits into my Juki’s walking foot to guide me along so I don’t have to mark allllll those lines anymore, I just place it at the width I want from the last line I made. It fits in both sides of the walking foot so you can work from either side.
I also plan to make these two-at-a-time and quilt a much taller piece so it creates an angled segment on each side of the cut, no waste.
You are very LISTEN-ABLE - and I will be exploring your other videos.
    Happy Crafting! 🤗🧵💕

I discovered this by accident: When I put on my zipper, I use 1/4 double back sticky tape. I covered all the zipper binding with the tape. So my overhang of zipper tape is sticky and when putting on the zipper pull, the sticky helps to make that grab to zip the zipper. Works for me!😊

You are AMAZING!! I love how you are so reality-based. Are your inside edges not perfect? Don't worry about it. The seam isn't amazingly straight by the zipper? It's fine. The corners aren't super crisp? Go with it. I am not a quilter but I feel like I can do this pattern with your help. THANK YOU! I appreciate the camera work. What I appreciate most of all is that you shared the whole process for getting the head back on the zipper, all of it, letting us know that if it takes an experienced person a minute to get it back together it is perfectly reasonable to take more than a minute to get the thing back together. Really, thank you!

I'm so glad I found your channel. I've watched 2 of your videos, this 1 and the seatbelt harness video, but I already love your style. You're well spoken, explain things clearly and somewhat concisely and you're not cutesy. I'm an alto, speaking & singing, so I appreciate a nice medium pitched voice. Some RUclipsr's voices drive me up the wall with a high pitch and a nasally twang. Your speaking pace is perfect. Not too slow or too fast. I appreciate how you pick up the video pace on the parts that would be boring if we had to watch the whole step.
So, that's why I like you. I really like your channel because of your creativity! I'll be back and I'll look into becoming a member. There are very few RUclipsrs I would want to support, but you just became 1 of them. Thanks so much for sharing your creativity and know-how. I look forward to making . . . By the way, when I sew presents for men I use thrifted men’s shirts for a more manly look. If you have men in your life, ask them to give you their shirts when ready to get rid of them. I got a tropical fish drying mat at Hobby Lobby for $3, grabbed some turtle and fish fabric from my stash, and a scrap of trim/binding. Use extra scrap piece to make a small zipper pouch. Use the second half of the zipper for the original large pouch and make the zipper pouch with the same steps you use to make the big pouch. I had a trim off half an inch from the little point, but it turned out really well and would be good for a pencils or even a glasses case. The zipper pouch works for the large original or extra large original, but not the small and medium size scrapped.

Wow love this pouch even though I don’t enjoy using zippers. Your instructions are clear and easy to follow. Sometimes I want to put down my current project and make your newest item. So much fun to watch.

Thanks for the informative tutorial! I purchased the pattern (love pdf’s….no haunting the mailbox waiting for paper pattern). I watched your video first, then read the pattern and I’m ready to start making three for gifts. Perfect watching tutorial first retaining those words in your brain camera and then follow paper pattern to completion. Like reading the book before watching the movie. Thanks for perfect Christmas gifts for great grandkids new tablets!
    Happy Holidays! Blessings, Dawn

Hi Becca. First I want to say a huge Thank you for showing me how to make these bags. I had boughten the pattern then found your video and it was so much easier to understand so thank you…. And like you I hated the waste so I want to show you what I did with the left over I cut off, it took a bit to figure out what and how to do it but I think you’ll love it. I’m trying to figure out how to post a pic.

I made several of these and found it lays very nicely to serge the inside edges rather than binding. I also attached the zippers at the same time as my first stitching when binding the zipper edge so I had two rows of stitching holding down the zipper tape neatly.
